smoking warningSpeaking of “real” organs and Dr. Oz in the last video, now I find this. It is one of Yahoo’s “most emailed” so everyone with a “My Yahoo” is seeing this today. How’s that for writing on the wall?

Here’s part of the copy:

“This image provided by Britain’s Department of Health showing a healthy lung, left and a diseased lung, right, is one of the graphic pictures to be place on packs of cigarettes to discourage smokers. Words failed to stamp out smoking, so Britain will require graphic pictures of diseased organs on cigarette packs next year, the government announced Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007. The images include a diseased lung, a chest cut open for heart surgery, and a large tumor on a man’s neck…”

Any questions?

I was looking thru those pics earlier today…some of them are very graphic! What’s even better is that they gave people the opportunity to vote on which pics to use. :) Wish they’d do that here in the US…

any questions? just one… do they actually expect this to work?

we’ve had pics on packs of cigs here for years, and i don’t think it’s made a bit of difference…

I dont think it’ll work either..the price here in the uk is enough to make many quit and yet still we dont. Why? Cos it’s addictive! Instead of wasting money on advertising, maybe they could offer free nicotine patches, or free prescriptions for Zyban or the like. Maybe tobacco companies should be forced to cough up (excuse the pun)..

As a smoker, I cannot imagine that it would discourage me anymore than the current written warning on cigarette packs here in the US. I have yet to meet a smoker who doesn’t know what this habit, this addiction, does to their body. Even with the escalating prices, we’re still smoking (albeit I’ve changed brands). Honestly, I can’t think of anything that would work for current smokers. Maybe discourage new ones, but most of us are in for the long haul.

They’re imitating Singapore who’s done it for years (maybe even decades).

With Saturn coming into Virgo (and my first saturn return hitting exact next year) I’m looking forward to finally quitting smoking for good. It’s hard, but with Saturn on my side I’m sure I can do it.

As for the pictures, they don’t really do anything for me, because I know the risks and have seen this stuff before from my doctors. It’s why I want to quit in the first place! I hope it does keep kids away from cigs though.

Doesn’t change my mind about smoking. BUT it does make me want to lose my lunch!

Won’t work. Smokers will just think those pictures are sexy. Kind of like tattoos. Ooo, I’m grossing myself out.

I’ve heard that pictures of ‘smoker’s mask’ (the gray, ashy haggard face that all long-term smokers get) works best as a deterrent.Unless you think that Keith Richards hacking up phlegm is sexy.

Those pictures are sexy? Ha ha, I don’t think even smokers would go that far.
