Outtakes and Various Other Sundries

barbaroThere is an article in this month’s Vanity Fair about Barbaro, the horse that fractured his his leg fell at Preakness Stakes in 2006.

The story is gut-wrenching, I don’t even want to comment, but the article featured birth data so here it is…

Barabaro’s chart on the inside. The transits the day of the accident on the outside wheel.

Barbaro – April, 29, 2003, NBT, Nicholasville, KY
Date of accident – May 20, 2006, 6:19pm, Baltimore, MD

Is that a beautiful animal or what? :-(

I love horses (Venus in Sadge) and this story broke my heart. The whole racing industry is horrific in the treatment of these beautiful animals. We have a retired thoroughbred mare(belongs to friends) happily chowing down in our pasture. She gets around pretty good but is obviously stove-up from being pushed too hard too young but she’ll still try to keep up with the silly Arab youngsters with her. :(
