So I am standing in the scooter shop and I definitely don’t belong except that I do. I don’t belong because I am someone’s mother who has come in from the suburbs but I do belong because I enjoy these scooters as much as anyone else on this planet.

And standing in there chatting with hipster men in thick black glasses and a gal in short, short, super short waitress uniform, I thought of Henry (double Capricorn).

Now you can see from the two pics… Henry and I, that we are both kind of strange. And Henry was a vegetarian, and having adopted this practice in the 1930′s, he was way ahead of his time.

So I grew up with Henry ordering his food from all over because there was no such thing as a “health food store” back then. But then hippies emerged and things like the Food Conspiracy, the first health food co-op in our town came into being.

If you wanted to shop at the Food Conspiracy, you had to work there as a volunteer so Henry, in his 70′s at the time rushed to “town” to sign up. And I was there, because I went everywhere with Henry. And you should have seen the looks on the faces of the hippies when Henry came in with me (a non-flower child for sure) and asked if he could sign up to volunteer.

They moved to tell this old man that he’d lost his way but he was happy to stand on his head for them and tell them that in fact, he had been vegetarian for more than 30 years and he was anxious to support their venture in any way possible. ::smiles::

So when they asked me today if I would like to try out some new scooters while they serviced mine, I said yes.

“This one is a 250. You can try it if you don’t think that’s too much for you…”

“No, I don’t think it is. I could ride an 1100 when I was 19. Give me the keys…”
