fashionWell it’s (almost) unanimous. People who read here think that things have energy. So do you act on this?

For example, say you go out and have a really awful horrible time. Would you wear that outfit again?

I had a spectacularly lousy time...

I was in a pretty bad car wreck once and I never wore the outfit again, even though it was totally undamaged and in great shape. Still–never ever ever again. I threw it away, even, instead of giving it to charity like I normally would have.

Depends. If the outfit was blameless I’d wear it again. If it was part of what made the outing spectacularly horrible, then, no.

i was in a bad wreck this a.m. on public transport. ended up on the next available shuttle to shuffle on to work for the day, and had to take several more later in the day. [i *did* get to change tops however...]

It depends. If the thing was spectacularly horrific (like I get mugged or assaulted or something) I would likely never wear the outfit again. I would also likely cut off my hair.

But if my horrible time = bad date and I like my outfit then I would very much wear it again.

It depends: some of my outfits I like so much that they can’t possibly be the cause of a bad evening. But if I don’t feel good in the thing in the first place: one extra reason to chuck it out. Then, if something Really bad would happen, I might be forced not to wear those clothes again.

I would be most likely to wear the outfit again if I really liked it to begin with so that I could reclaim it and transform the energy of that experience into something useful.

I would never wear the outfit because of the bad memories associated with it. I feel the memories would be too strong if the experience was truly horrible and it would affect my mood.

I wore full black clothes when I went for a date that proved to be the begginning of a disastrous relationship. Not only I threw the clothes I was wearing that night, but I haven´t dressed fully in black ever since, and that was 6 years ago.No matter black makes you look thinner!

there was a deeply moving postcard on PostSecret the other week about this. a photo of a woman wearing a skirt, just from the waist down, and with a sharpie marker she’d written, “This is the skirt I was raped in two years ago. Tonight, i’m wearing it out to reclaim it.” Sucker punch to the gut.
