“Well I just think it’s strange. I’m not going to marry you but I have no explanation at all. Didn’t you think that was strange?”

“Well, yeah. You never did give me a reason why you didn’t want to marry me, but I figured you had one. So after that, we just broke up.”

“We did?”

“We did. You don’t want to get married, so I figured that meant we should break up so that’s what we did. I broke up with you and I stayed broken up with you for about a week. Probably wasn’t even that long.”

“I see. I don’t remember.”

“Yeah, well we did break up over it but not for long. You’re not going to marry me, means we’re supposed to break up. But then I guess we realized we had no reason to break up. I mean there wasn’t a fight or anything, so we got back together and we stayed together for the better part of two years. In between times you threw me out, that is. Which you did do quite a bit. I don’t remember how many times I moved out just to move back in again but it was a lot.”

“Yeah? Sorry about that.”

“No problem, P. I didn’t mind. I didn’t mind at all. You’d tell me to pack up, I’d pack up. You tell me to come back and I’d come back.”

“I can’t believe you put up with that. Who would put up with that?”

“Me I guess. I don’t recall it ever bothering me. You know. She wants me out, I guess I’ll go. She wants me back, I want to be back, I guess I’ll go back. And whatever you did never changed anything, anyway. I still wanted to marry you. I always wanted to marry you the whole time.”

“Well I wanted to marry you the whole time too!”

“Well I wished you’d have said something. Because I’d have married you immediately. If I had even one shred of an idea you would marry me, I’d have done it in an instant. We’d have been married right then and right. Just as fast as I could get a ring on your finger, well I’d have put it there.”

“I see. Well I didn’t tell you. I didn’t know how to and I didn’t know if I should either. You know. Mostly I was trying to protect you. I know you don’t understand that, but it’s true. One day you’ll see that is true and it’ll flip you out. But besides that, I really thought you were going to ask again.”

“Ask you to marry me? Well I would have if I had any idea you would have considered it. I didn’t think you would. I I’d have had any inkling, I’d have got down on my knees and begged you.”

“Oh my God. It’s very painful to know that.” I sighed. “Ouch. I almost wish I didn’t know that, but now I do.” I stopped to think. “Well I didn’t know how you felt either. But I still think you’re right. I should have said something.”

“You wouldn’t have had to say much.”

“I didn’t know. And I consider this a mistake. It’s a mistake in my life even though I know why I made it and I am not sure things would have worked out anyway. Because there was just so much. I mean, I had this whole life going on, that you knew nothing about.”

“What life?’

“Well this is some of the stuff I’m trying to tell you. I think you’ll be shocked when you really get the story and see what all was going on back them. You will be amazed. You think you’re stealth? I’ll tell you who’s really stealth. Elsa P is the stealth one, I am afraid and sorry to say.”
