The soldier told me recently, he was working out harder than usual. I am doing same I know that he’s the reason why. I became very aware of this back in 2003 when we first got in contact.

I was pretty out of shape at the time. Actually I was a pretty much a wreck which is another reason they talk in they talk in the gym. I’ve transformed. But anyway, back in 2003, the soldier was telling me about the various training he’d gone through to make it into Special Forces and one exercise he mentioned was especially intriguing to me… and quintessentially Saturn Mars.

Apparently when you go through this training, you have no idea what they’re going to do to you on a day to day basis. You just get up (if they let you sleep) and do whatever they tell you to do. And one day he woke up and they told him he was going to run.

“They’ve got some kind of course but you have no idea where it goes or where it will take you. There’s a path that leads off into the woods and that’s it. That’s all you know.”

“I see,” I said, picturing the path, like a mouth leading into the woods.

“And you’re supposed to start running down this path into the woods. And they tell you they’ll be watching you the whole time. You’ll be observed. And you don’t know how they’re going to do that. Will there be sentries posted along the course? Will they track you by helicopter? Because they do that. They track you in all kinds of ways, some you know about and some you don’t so you just have no idea.”

“Yeah?”

“And here’s the thing,” he said. “They tell you to run as fast and as hard as you can. You supposed to run full out but they don’t tell you how long you’ll be running. Will you be running an hour? Two hours? A day? Three days? You’re supposed to run as fast as you can but you have no idea how long you’re supposed to keep it up.”

I smiled.

“Now I can run and I can run fast for a long time but I can’t run forever. And since I don’t know how long I’m going to be running, I have no idea how I’m supposed to gauge myself. And there is no telling what they want you to do. Should you run full out (Mars)? Or should you conserve yourself (Saturn)?”

“I have no idea.”

“Yeah, that’s the point. You have no idea and you have to come up with an idea. And there’s all kinds of pressure. Because you know they’re watching and monitoring you and if they don’t like what they see, they’ll kick you out and that’s it. You go home, having not made it into Special Forces which is of course the worst thing that could possibly happen to someone like me.”
