From the Financial Times: Men bear the brunt of US jobs lost

Sarah O’Connor writes:

“The US recession has opened up the biggest gap between male and female unemployment rates since records began in 1948, as men bear the brunt of the economy’s contraction.

Men have lost almost 80 per cent of the 5.1m jobs that have gone in the US since the recession started, pushing the male unemployment rate to 8.8 per cent. The female jobless rate has hit 7 per cent.”

Michael Lutin wrote on his site a last week, he felt that jobs were going to become precious. I agree with him and got wind of a conversation that ought to be a wake up call. If you prefer to tag me a “fear monger” go right ahead.

The individual in question is a high level manager in a publicaly held company. He was talking about how happy he was to see a whole bunch of his competitors go out of business some months ago mostly due high fuel costs. He said he wished the prices had stayed high just a little bit longer which would have seen some more businesses fail because it that were to happen, then what?
