Yesterday I was discussing the soldier and I’s trip to the desert with astrologer and pal, Claire France. The astrology of this trip is astonishing and we’ve both been at this long enough to know what that means.

“If we get on that plane and die, don’t you give it thought. We are so supposed to be on this specific plane…”

Later it hit me we were flying. The soldier hates to fly. He does not mind jumping out of a plane 200+ times but flying? He hates it.

The soldier (Jupiter in Sagittarius) talks to me (Jupiter rising) about going to Italy and fact is, it does not take much for one to talk the other into an adventure….

“When we go to Italy…”

“We’re not going to Italy,” I said. “Why are we going to Italy?”

“Yes we are going to Italy. We’ll be in Italy some day I’m sure. Why don’t you want to go to Italy?”

“Well I have just never wanted to go. I am already Italian and they don’t want to see us over there. We’re Americans! Italian people don’t think Italians who are American are Italians. They hate us!”

About that yin flying thing, one time I was on a plane with my daughter who was about 8 at the time but she is smart as a whip. She was sitting in the window seat, I was center and there was a full size man on the aisle, maybe 6′2″ and 240 pounds.

I was having no problem, the flight attendant had just cleared our lunch when I turned back from chatting with my daughter to see the man has fallen asleep.

Five minutes later, he had slumped down, leaned over and had his entire head lying on my tray table, sleeping like a baby with his head in my lap, drool and everything.

Of course I thought this was hysterical, as did my daughter…

“I thought I was your mother,” I said.

She roared. “Are you going to leave him?” she asked.

“Well, yeah,” I said. “How am I supposed to move him?”

“Oh, Mom. My mom is a mom.”

This is what happens when you’re super yin and have a grand trine in Earth. Capricorn too. These babies just find you. That guy slept in my lap for almost and hour.

Today I was walking into the gym and ran into my counterpart, a gal who loves the cross-trainer as much as I do. We are connoisseurs of the machine and the other day she was off and I was getting on and knowing she would know, I asked her, “Which is the good one?”

See, I hadn’t been to the gym in awhile and the machines are in various states of disrepair. I hate when they click or they are sluggish or under perform in anyway and I know she feels same and the “best machine” is variable as weeks pass.

“Third one from the end,” she said with her trademark grin.

So I got on that machine that day and then this morning we hit the gym at the same time so you know what that means? It means only one of us get the good machine and to my mild shock and chagrin I realized I would defer and give it to her. I would sacrifice, see and I can’t say I was all that happy about. Why does it have to be this way? How come she gets the good machine just because she’s a boy-girl?

But then I remembered the airplane… here is a little Pluto in Sagittarius, travel psychology for you: It is simple fact, when people sit next to each other on a plane whoever is dominant will take the shared armrest and the person like me… the person with the yin chart will keep their elbows in so consequently I am forever flying scrunched.

Do you take the shared armrest on a plane, or do you allow the other person to dominate? How’s this jibe up with your chart?

I was talking to the soldier:

“Okay, well let me clue you in then. This is how I see it. All your life you’re a soldier and you don’t worry about the other. They give you a can of stuff… a meal ready to eat and you open it and eat it and you don’t think about it.”

“No I don’t.”

“I know you don’t but someone else does. They happen to study the hell out of what to feed a soldier. Apparently the big challenge is to get enough calories in you so you can fight. Most soldiers don’t eat enough so they spend a lot of money to perfect this. It is a big business but anyway, here’s my point.”

My son who is 8, in en route to New York. Unfortunately his Jetblue plane was 23 hours late last I heard. However, he got on the news.

In a bit of synchronicity, the soldier’s son who lives in another country will also be in New York at the same time… we have no idea what to make of this.

In the meantime, my daughter and I are on the Mercury Retrograde road heading to see the soldier and having follies galore. For example we have been locked out of our hotel room not once but twice this morning and although we know we are in Nebraska, we have no idea if we are headed to Iowa or Illinois, though we’re pretty sure it’s one of those.

And you?

I returned my rental car on Sunday and got a ride to the airport from a grinning, wisecracking, pontificating Sagittarius. He kept saying, “The way I see it, blah, blah, blah…” And,”I figure, blah, blah, blah…”

I liked him though. He was tall, super skinny and amusing and I decided en route to double my standard tip in appreciation of the entertainment. And then this:

“It’s always the business guys who show up late. I had a guy the other day, he showed up late and he was so rude. He came right up to me and said, you better get me to the airport immediately!”

“Immediately?” I asked. “How are you supposed to do that? Beam him like Star Trek?”

“Yeah. I was supposed to get him there immediately. And hey. I have no problem with someone being late and needing me to rush. I’m happy to do the best I can. But this guy? He was rude.”

“Sounds like.”

“So you know what I did?”

“What?”

“I dropped him off at the wrong side of the terminal. Yep. I dropped him as far as I could from where he needed to be. I figured to hell with him. Pulled over, got his bags, said have a nice flight! He got right in my face and I don’t have to put up with that shit.”

Sitting behind him, I smirked. And I still double tipped him. After all, I got this story didn’t I?

If you ever want to know how to get somewhere, ask a Sadge. Sadge Sun, Moon or rising, it doesn’t matter. A lot of them actually carry little notebooks around, for exactly this purpose.

Once I was new to a city, and a Sadge Moon I met suggested I check out this specific bar. He thought I might hit it off with the bartender there. To make sure I could get there, he pulled a pad from his shirt pocket and drew me a map. He ripped the page from his notebook and handed it to me, and then drew me a second map.

“If it’s rush hour, use this one,” he said.

“Okay.”

I had a Sagittarian draw me a map to a fish taco once, from the airport in Puerto Vallarta. The part that killed me was this was on foot.

He had me leaving the airport on foot, walking down alleys, jumping over dogs sleeping on sidewalks, then going up the stairs and past the first two doors, to the third… doing some other weird hijinks, all so I could get to the best taco in town.

And then there was the Sadge I dated for awhile. He showed me a better way to get to my own house. I’d lived there for five years and it was humbling.

Another Sadge showed me how to climb up the side of a rock house. You know. He showed me all the good hand holds. He told me there were three ways to go, and he rated them: easy, hard, hardest.

I kept a straight face too, because I was in love with him.

And one more. I was in Phoenix, visiting a Sagittarius friend. We were in the car and I was telling her about this:

“Yeah,” I said. “A lot of them even carry a little pad with them. My grandfather did…”

Smiling, she reached down and unzipped the fanny pack she was wearing. “I do that,” she said as she pulled out a slim notebook and a tiny pencil.

“I rest my case.”
