This is a really good question and one that astrology can handle succinctly. Your chart does show a primarily honest person, bold and blunt as you describe. But Mercury rules communication and yours is in aspect to Neptune which gives the ability to obscure things (lie) at times, so there you go. But you are not doomed. Aware of this propensity / ability you need only find an alternative way to express this energy and you should be home free.

Now Mercury is innately tricky and Neptune rules illusion and nuance so check out one of the ways Meryl Streep’s uses her Mercury / Neptune combo:

I saw Streep interviewed years ago and she was talking about the movie, Kramer vs Kramer for which she won an Oscar. The movie is about a couple divorcing - There is a child involved and Streep stated that she makes up (Neptune) some fact (Mercury) about every character she plays. Something that is not in the script that only she knows about the character. She feels this gives her performance something extra and I agree.

So in the beginning of this movie Streep is in an elevator waiting to go down having words with Dustin Hoffman who she is about to divorce. And she stated that during the scene she was thinking the thing she had made up for this role which was the fact, the woman never loved the man. Big difference, huh?

So Hoffman is saying his lines and she is saying hers but guess what? She never loved him in the first place and no one knows this but her. Can you see how this is the same energy? I hope you can but if you learn to use your ability in this type way, not only will you not be hurting yourself, your life will be enhanced.

Last night on the phone with the soldier:

“What’s going on?” I asked. We talk about 10 times a day.

“Oh,” he said sappily, “I was just thinking of you and me in the gazebo.”

“Gazebo! Are we going to have a gazebo? What gazebo?”

“The gazebo in Sound Of Music,” he said with a sigh. “Me and you. Me and P in the gazebo and whiskers on kittens.”

I laughed. “Well good. I am glad you don’t think I’m a banshee, there are many who do.’

“Ah, well they don’t know you, P. They don’t know about your whiskers on kittens or your warm woolen mittens.”

I just shook my head.See what happens when you have Neptune on the midheaven? Saint or sinner, it depends on who’s lookin’.

The soldier and I watched La Bamba this weekend, a movie I have never seen for some reason. It was striking because the guy who plays Ritchie Valens brother in the movie looks astonishingly similar to the soldier’s old friend, Speedy and acts like his to some extent as well. Then there is the love story of course.

The soldier wound up singing “Oh, Donna” to me all weekend, substituting my name for hers which was both embarrassing and amusing and we talked a lot about men in love… some of these conversations are coming up.

It’s very heartening to hear from a man’s man about men loving women. Turns out they really do love us a lot of time, too bad we don’t register this as well as we might. Because if I had any doubt about what he was saying when I went looking for the song on youtube, I found one man after another after another after another of all sizes, shapes and colors singing this torchy song so apparently they can relate.

This weekend, the soldier and I were sitting in his truck in the truck wash line prior to fighting and he made conversation by asking about this blog…

“My blog? Well they are fighting on my blog at the moment. Everyone is fighting. You, me, them. It’s in the air, people want to fight.”

“Why are they fighting?”

“An advice post I wrote. Some people think it was awful, other people think it’s not so awful so they’re fighting it out.”

The soldier was home and my son wanted to watch a movie with us. He made the pick, Nicolas Cage in Ghost Rider. Now the movie has a guy driving around on a motorcycle with his head on fire so you can see the astrology. Mars/Aries rules the head and fire… the yang motorcycle form of transportation (Mercury).

All three of us have some combination of Mars Mercury so we we were all just sitting there staring at the TV in our various states of shock, awe, horror or thrill as Nick Cage rides around with burning love for the gal in the movie.

“I’ve been writing about what I have had to realize and come to terms with as far as being with you goes,” I told the soldier last week.

“Like what.”

“Well for example, when we were kids we were going to get married but then you decided you wanted to go into Special Forces. So you are going to be an assassin, essentially. I mean, does that offend you?” I asked. “Even if it does, this is how it was seen at the time at least in the desert. No one knew what Special Forces was. Believe me they didn’t because I was asking all over the place. I asked everybody on the planet to talk to me and I guess it may be different in the South where you train and people have some exposure and knowledge but where we were at no one knew anything. I was told that Special Forces were trained assassins and that was about it. That was all anyone had to say about it other than Apocalypse Now came out which… well it did not refute that,” I said.

“Nope.”
