I started to write about Notions and the People Who Have Them but got off track. I want to get back on track because I think this is such an important topic and rarely (if ever) discussed in life or in astrology.

The first time I spoke on the phone with the soldier after 25 years, I was taken aback by his (southern) accent. He had this profound twang and when I heard it I burst out laughing. He asked if I did not remember  his accent and I did remember his accent it was just nowhere near as pronounced which made sense once  I had time to think about it.

It’s because when I met the soldier he’s not been living in the south, he’d been living out of the country and had lost his accent to an extent. But here’s the thing, it’s like a phenomena.

“Well just tell me this,” the soldier said. “When do you not think about sex?”

I was stunned by the question. “Well…” I said, stalling for time. “I don’t know,” I blurted.  “Let me think about that.”

He laughed. “See?”

“Well wait a minute, let me think I said.”  I stopped to think, letting my mind scan over a typical days thoughts. “I don’t know but I am sure I think of something besides sex.”

He stared.

“Occasionally, I think of something besides sex. I get on the crosstrainer and think about what I am going to write,” I said but as soon as I did I realized sexual thoughts interfere with that probably every few minutes if not every few seconds.  “Okay, I do think about sex a lot. Oh my God, I think of sex all the time… I really do think about sex all the time, sorry!”

This was stunning to me. I don’t think I go five minutes without a sexual thought… quintessential Mars conjunct Mercury.

 What dominates your thinking? Where is your Mercury?

The soldier’s thoughts on failure being predictable have proved seminal in that they have provoked my own analysis of my own thought process and what I observe around me.

As an example, we recently noticed the business of someone we know was beginning to smell as if it might be failing. The owner of the business is quite bright so it was hard for the us to believe this person could not see what was coming. It was possible but hard to imagine as probable but as days and weeks passed the scale continued to tip in the wrong the direction.

“Well I don’t care what people think,” I told the soldier. “I could care less.”

“Well that’s obvious,” he said. “Because that’s what people think.”

“What do they think?”

“Well they see you with me and they say, look who she’s with. Obviously she doesn’t care what people think.”

I stared at him because he’s tricky. “Is that what they think? People think that?”

“That’s what they think all right. Hell yes that’s what they think.”

“Oh. Well that’s fine because as you know I don’t care what they think. I really could care less.”

He looked bemused.

I think I am pretty normal but it sure is interesting when someone tells you how they see you and I guess this is one of the reasons people see astrologers. It does give you another perspective… I told a client once that astrology could show you our own butt (except I used the other word).

Now the soldier is keenly observant and the other day he was going on about how he’s the sane one which is probably true in spite of his threats to kill people on a daily basis. He put it like this:

We’d eaten dinner and were hanging out in the bedroom while Vidroid escorted his friend, “Quirky Aquarian” home on his bike.  The soldier said he was going to do something before Vid got back…

“You don’t have much time. Five minutes. He’s just riding his bike up there and back, you better leap to it,” I said.

“Leap?”

I stared.

“P, I haven’t leaped since I was five years old.”

“I see…”

I didn’t bother to tell him that a Libran Mars would leap, not hop. Hopping is grotesque where leaping is elegant.

Such a dilemma! I imagine it’s Saturn’s transit through Virgo (due to oppose Uranus) but in whatever case I am very aware I best take care what I say.

Now don’t go trying to fix me or tell me I’ve no need to censor myself because how would you know? Further, you won’t be suffering any of the consequences so it’s none of your business but here is the point of this blog, and my frustration.

The soldier has Saturn in aspect to Mercury… compared to my Mercury in the 9th (associated with Jupiter) conjunct a hotted up Mars.

“I like to control my thoughts. I don’t like them running all over the place. I like to think of things in a logical order one after another with nothing distracting me.”

“Yeah? My thoughts do run all over,” I said.

“Yeah they do and with high variable,” he said, we were sitting in the bathtub before I got out and he got stuck. “Your thoughts?” He waved his hand in the air in a spiral and then moved it high and low. “They go all over the place with no order to them at all,” he said with that look on his face that assumes I’m crazy but he loves me anyway.

I am currently telling the soldier’s son a series of stories and while they make complete sense to me and (eventually) arrive at a potent (series) of conclusions, I bet you anything he is thinking something similar.
