The friend who betrayed my son earlier this week has apologized and restored the friendship. I am skeptical since this boy has a distinct pattern of becoming very close to my son and then dumping him coldly.

It has never made sense because they hang out together at one house or the other 7 days a week so I always wonder what this kid thinks he’s doing. He is entirely compatible with my son. I have never witnessed conflict of any kind so I have no idea what this kid is acting out but apparently it is something. And I think he is fortunate because my son can transcend but what a baffling situation.

Deirdre - this is a perfect example of the challenges I face in trying to communicate. Being attracted to what is taboo does not even enter into my equation when I think about this. What is most appealing about Special Forces training… what I admire the most is the soldier’s focus. He’s got a task / he is on a mission and there is no stopping him. Highly trained, he does not become hysterical or distracted from what he is trying to do and being exposed to this has been enormously instructive and helpful.

Transiting Pluto is now firmly in my twelfth house and it occurred to me a couple days ago I have hardly any friends left post it’s transit of my eleventh. Pluto is such a slow moving planet it is hard to assimilate or track its effects as it moves through a house in your chart. This is a 10 year transit, give or take but for a moment there I had a glimpse or some awareness of what had gone on so I thought I’m mark it for Google purposes. I was talking to the soldier who was on the road due to pass through a city where he has friends. Good friends. Old friends. He was debating whether he should stop to see them because the time lost could potentially cause him a problem. He had me on the computer calculating time and miles and it was a toss up.

I mentioned in the comments of the Saturn/Pluto blog I had a date rape situation come up with a man I thought was a “friend”, except it was no date. We were on purely friendly and had been for years. He was well aware of my budding involvement with another man (the soldier) but he apparently thought if I was coming to his house, I must be interested in him or more likely he figured, “I’ll try this and see what happens”.

Had something occurred it would have been a so-called “gray rape”, I suppose. What am I doing at his house if I’m not interested?

Well fact is he was very social and I am somewhat social. I felt comfortable because I’d known him for years, and entertained people at his house all the time. Plus we’re old! He was 50 and a doctor no less so it’s not like he was stupid. He made a calculated decision to sell me out, cheap.

That’s what I call it when a friend or someone you think is a friend sacrifices their friendship with you for little or no gain. But anyway, here’s the question and it’s age old but still:

What would you do if you noticed a friend had pulled away? Would you question them? Try to pull them back in? Or would you let them be, maintaining the friendship within the new frame they’d established?
