The other day the soldier and I were debating something - Politics.

“I’m speaking from a position of knowing,” he said.

“And Iiiiiiiiii am as always, as per my usual, I am speaking from a position of not knowing. My position is based on my ignorance and stupidity,” I said smugly with my head cocked.

He stared with an eyebrow raised and I looked at him blankly.

The next day more debate.

“How do you do it?” I asked. “How do you discuss things like this with one who knows so little?” I challenged.

“I didn’t marry you because you were ornery and contrary,” the soldier explained.

“Contrary? You mean you wanted to run my life?”

“No, I mean you were ornery. I was nice.”

“I was honorary?”

“Orney.”

“Honorary?”

“P, you’re the most ornery and contrary person there is.”

It strikes me if you have Mercury in Aries, you’re single minded and anyone with Mercury in Libra who has no choice but to see both sides is going to see contrary.

As for the ornery, that must be Mars, eh? As if he can talk.

“P, I’m not kidding, I want you to tell me what you want to eat after surgery. I know it’s going to be hell and I want to know exactly what to get for you. I think it should be bland. I think you may be queasy but I know you hate bland food. I’m not sure you’d eat bland food even on your death bed.”

“I don’t care what I eat. I wouldn’t worry about it, we can just nuke something.”

“No, hell no. We are not nuking something on the day you have surgery. I am getting you some food but I want to know ahead of time what you want.”

“I want to know what you want to eat after surgery and I want to know ahead of time because you’re going to be mean as a bear.”

“What? Why do you say that?”

“P, anesthesia makes people mean and you?” He ducked.

“Oh for Godsakes. I doubt that.  Why would I be mean? I am not upset about this surgery. I think I am going in to become the Bionic Woman. I’m to be reinforced! I think you are overstating this mean thing.”

“Fine. But I am still wearing my flap jack and my armored underwear.”

“Oh brother.”

We were watching a movie and the people on screen started singing, “Five golden rings..!” The soldier and I joined in. “Four calling birds, three french hens, two turtles doves…”

“Hey,” I said. ‘We can go caroling again!” I said with a hapless grin. The soldier and I went Christmas caroling when we were kids and got in a big fight all because I thought I was fat that night. I really went berserk and in front of his boss no less. I was from the desert (ie a wild animal) and had no concept or care of decorum of any kind… I’m not kidding about this.

“No,” he said with his eyes wide. “No caroling for us, ever again. I never went caroling since that night we went caroling and I swear I never will.”

I stared.

“Yeah, that’s why I don’t go to any of those… those therapists. They say, hey. Do you ever have any flashbacks from any action you’ve been in? And I say, yeah. P, back in ‘79. We went caroling and that was the worst action I’ve ever been in in my life…”

“Halting the progression or the escalation of a situation that has volatile potential from developing may work well. But, I would think that an evaluation of what mechanism(s) starts the process to begin with is truly the way to overcome. Easier said than done, but something to think about.”

Dan, something great to think about, thank you! I am not sure if you were specifically referring to the “fight” dynamic between the soldier and I but if you are, this “may” be a case where there is no mechanism that starts the thing. I am not sure but I think it’s possible some things that just occur in nature akin to a volcano that erupts or lighting that strikes when and were it damn pleases.

The soldier was yelling, he’s got that crew cut now you know and I was taken aback.

“Oh my God,” I said. “You are a butchy, butchy man. How did I end up with someone so butchy?”

He made a butchy noise and gesture and I gasped.

“P! What do you mean what are you doing with a man like me? I am an extreme man, you are an extreme woman. We’re attracted like moths to a flame.”

I gasped again but he’s right and that right there is the opposition. It is also evidence of my Uranus in the 7th - I am shocked at my partner. He has Venus in aspect to Uranus so I imagine it goes both ways.
