Saturn In Virgo: “I Don’t Want To Be A Dumb Ass…”

Astrology in real life

I have written about Saturn in Virgo and guarding your mind.  It is an individual’s responsibility to discriminate information and maintain the integrity of their thinking. Have your own ideas.

This is separate but related:

When I met the soldier this weekend I brought with me a box of mystery. It was something he’d ordered to help with his stupidity, this is what he said.

The soldier, being a Taurus is susceptible to all sales pitches on Home Shopping Network, so I just stay out it. Sitting in the bathtub he told me he’d noticed he was getting stupider all the time so he was going to try to rectify the situation. “You’ve got to use your brain or you’re going to lose it,” he said. “It’s just like a muscle.”

Today I spoke with him, “I finished my brain lesson,” he said.

“Is it working?”

“I’d say it is.”

“How well?”

“Well I took the test when I started yesterday and got 160. Today I got 244,” he said.

“Sounds like it’s working like a son of a bitch,” I said.

“Yeah. Yes it is and I’m glad because my brain is rotting away. I don’t use it.”

“I do use mine,” I said.

“Well no shit, P. You use yours all day, every day and you’re sharp as a tack but me? Well I am just driving, not doing a damn thing and I can feel my brain atrophying.”

“I get it, I am glad you got the thing.”

“Me too, P. Me too. I don’t want to be a dumb ass.”

I agree and I am happy to be someone who challenges people to think and to do so independently. I also think if you lay down on this you will in fact be (or become) a dumb ass.

Do you use your mind?

Yes. On overdrive.

In fact, if I could put my brain in a jar at night, I so totally would. Insomnia is a pisser.

My grandma used to test herself by rattling off all the family relations she could remember when the opportunity presented itself — second cousins, great aunts, etc. Grandpa did his crossword puzzles and played that peg game incessantly. :)

Well I have to come up with something new to say here every day, multiple times a day actually and figure out how to cope with the repercussions (for good or ill) which vary on a daily basis.

Then there are the consultations with people so diverse it’s shocking. I have to problem solve, find an angle that will be helpful and effective and hardest of all - communicate it.

Doing this constantly does have it rewards as the old adage the way to get good at something is to practice it and 6600 posts on this blog alone, well…

I do feel grateful for this by the way. I would hate to be someone who has to go somewhere else to get an idea which I think is incredibly common and also tempting.

In other words I have seen some people who I know to be very intelligent become quite dull just by hanging around others, quite dull.

This happened to me for about 3 years once, it was hell.

Yes, my brain muscle works out! The life i have created has been a mixed blessing … on the best days, I see how the isolation from a lot of others is just perfect. In so many ways there are dumb asses that would wear me out out there.

I put a lot of threads together living in my smaller whirl, and checking in with people that stimulate me to think and challenge my own thinking is good exercise. My Scorpio needs to be stimulated to communicate … that’s my challenge and after I get over being pissed off about something/while clamming up … I get to use my brain who loves a good investigation.

That is precisely why you are my hero, Elsa.
I have never seen such fresh, active astrology that doesnt require us to pull out the visa card for insight.

And F**^k yeah, you are the matriarch of a major energy vortex here on the internet

So you may need some time out so you dont burn out….

You should’ve asked me about this when I was 17 (about 4 years ago).

I would’ve answered no. Ha ha ha.

oh and yeah, i used my virgo mind for 38 years. and now I dont know what is happening because my mind is getting in the way. Now it is time for my heart and my intuition to guide me. so I dunno. Yeah, its important to not to just buy into crap. but its also important not to get stuck in it thinking, thinking thinking,…in that squirrel cage, poking your finer in your eye over and over and over again..?

I do.. but I also meander..(Gemini).. Among other things Saturn in Virgo has been all about me sharpening the pencil and getting to the point.

I’m with Goddess on this one.

I think a lot, and often. I am ALWAYS processing information about every little thing. My challenge (sun/saturn in 1H gemini) is focusing it into something useful. I have a tattoo on the inside of my left forearm that says, simply: Focus.

Mercury-Mars never stops. Sometimes I feel the urge to express my thoughts, but I’m learning to do it only when they ask - so the blame is on them :)

I have to work hard to use my mind nowadays. At work, I could be a vegetable and noone would notice. I have to fight so hard to use my brain, it’s weird!

At home, our apt. is kind of noisy so we always have the TV on now. I’ve never had the TV on when I wasn’t really watching it before. I really need a TV fast, but my husband can’t stand the creaking of our neighbor upstairs. Thank god for books!!

I use my mind all the time. The only time when I didn’t I was 20-22 and partying all the time…got bored of that eventually. I use a lot of little tricks to keep myself sharp, like reading upside down. I also just think a lot, period, while counseling myself not to obsess and run in mental circles. It’s a challenge.

Taurus Mercury conjunct Chiron in 5th; square Saturn Leo in 8th

I find this place, and our host incredibly stimulating. For a while when Neptune was on my Asc, this was my caffeine fix to jump start my foggy self. Now it’s cleared, it’s pure delight!
To me, it’s like a treat for working hard to come by and have a think about what’s here. Mercury/Mars/Uranus .. loves the mind stir of all these viewpoints too!

Not, not any more. I probably don’t even read at the same level. I definitely don’t read at the pace I used to. I understand the feeling of becoming stupid.
