Energy Theft, Pluto In Capricorn And The Astro Dispatch

Astrology in real life

thiefYesterday I was talking to astrologer and columnist, Shelley Ackerman about the problems with the Astro Dispatch. I explained how there were sites I had linked 50 or a 100 times over these last years who had never made a gesture in return. Being a Libra, she was appalled.

Reciprocity comes naturally to her but she mentioned something else that stuck with me. James Redfield, author of The Celestine Prophecy, once told her that biggest violation on Earth, the greatest crime of all, is “theft of energy”.

Having tossed this around over night I think I agree. It’s just not right to a tap a source and not give back.

I have posted about this before: Energy Thieves and Vampires, so this represents my matured opinion.

It also smacks of Pluto in Capricorn ala “Do the right thing” when it comes to energy. I think this might be the new way coming in because I find myself more and more wanting to sever ties with people who want something for nothing and don’t think in terms of reciprocation.

Specific to the Dispatch, the theft of energy is not really accurate as I don’t think people have any idea the energy and effort I have expended to serve our community over these last few years. But at this point I do feel it is fair and just to expect a reciprocal link to this blog in order to continue to be supported by it and so I’ve come up with this policy.

Basically, the collective (Pluto) must support itself (Capricorn).

What do you think of this?

Ok, guilty as charged and rectified. Never intended not to reciprocate. I’ve linked to specific articles of yours serveral times. Just never updated the blogroll on the side.

Apologies.

I think the linkback is an extremely reasonable request, and I’m very glad to see you make it explicitly. Depending on people’s (usually good intentions) isn’t enough. Making it clear what you need and making it as easy as possible for others to fullfill those requests seems like a much better strategy.

Even though I enjoy reading a lot of the blogs that are on Astro Dispatch, if it goes down, the bloggers are going to lose me because I don’t have the time or inclination to setup and check a feed to them. Which in turn is a loss both ways.

The only reason I EVER saw their blogs, except for Lynn Hayes, was because I read ElsaElsa.com

Thanks you guys. This is going to have to be a co-op it is the only way.

To be included you are going to have to write quality content and contribute a link back and if this an impossible asking, or asking too much, I am just going to cash it it because I can see the writing on the wall.

Bottom line, I can no longer afford to hold up 600 astrologers so I will opt to hold up the 200 who hold me up and I would point out, this is not really personal but the way the world is going in general.

So Elsa, just to be clear, the reciprocal link should be to http://www.elsaelsa.com, yes?

Shelley, yes. Thanks for the distinction. Ideally both blogs should be linked but this blog for sure because it is the one recognized by google.

In other words, if there is a link to dispatch from a person’s blog, someone who visits that blog might click over and that is good. But the link will not mean anything to google like linking here will.

And again, the traffic to Dispatch that is dispersed to all the bloggers originates here:

http://www.astrodispatch.com/2009/05/27/making-changes-to-save-the-astro-dispatch/

Basically this blog is the back door way to grow the Dispatch as the front door way is blocked!!

Further, if we get this done, get by this step and keep the thing going we can look at other possibilities and things we can do to help the co-op. People are writing me behind the scenes with other ideas but the first step it reduce to a group who wants to exchange energy / give to get.

Thanks again, Shelley. :-)

Sounds like you are on the right track. You should only keep it going if it works for you. You aren’t the world’s servant who needs to work tirelessly for bloggers who don’t give in return.
Asking for a reciprocal link is NOTHING. How long would it take to do that. It’s prob mostly folks who got lazy or didn’t bother and didn’t update their links or whatever–

“I find myself more and more wanting to sever ties with people who want something for nothing and don’t think in terms of reciprocation.”

I’m doing the same thing…it really is a crime because it’s so hard to put it into words, so manipulative-and if/when you approach the person who has taken your energy, they will immediately invalidate it because they don’t see energy as quantitative.

Recently I became the ghost writer for someone’s blog and I absolutely link bloggers who’ve reviewed or linked his work duh. It’s simply the right thing to do.

I’m missing background information here… if they ignored a personal email telling them (or reminding them) they have been added to dispatch, what it means to you and the community and then they blew you off then I say dump them. Less is more here.

But they are a lot of buts, including that what one puts out there isn’t always responded to in ways we expect or in ways that are visible, at least immediately. Also, if you really value and respect the contents of specific blogs but they are out to lunch for unknown reasons or not, will they automatically go on to the cutting list? Yet if it’s mostly a matter of affording the dispatch then there’s zero reason for me to play the devil’s advocate and the choice is clear cut. (Libra rising, Aries Mars!) These off-the-list people could still connect down line…

grr - there are 400 feeds. it is going to be a task and a half to discern what the hell and it is not going to be perfect in any direction for some weeks at least.

Right now the site is not even updating. We had to disable it because it has crashed this blog 8 times in 2 days.

This is critical situation so I have spent the day deleting feeds of those blogs who rarely update or who I am pretty sure are not going to be sticking around.

Is it possible I made a mistake in there? Of course. Can it be undone? Of course.

Right now the situation is critical. The dead weight is not only crashing my site, it is preventing those sites who do offer support from getting linked this very minute so job one is to get us back on line with both sites stable.

In other words, I am going to put my mask and then look ’round to see what I can do.

Then off with the deadweight heads!

I did notice the late crashes and before that this blog’s download time slurring my browser to a freeze while fetching the dispatch part of the page. Best luck with making the feed all smooth and bright and collectively sound!

The only reason I have ever read any of the other blogs was because of yours….it would be a shame for them to lose such a great fountain of people like me who read them because of you…..

I think you’re absolutely right, Elsa. I also think a fee wouldn’t be out of place - nominal amount perhaps, but something to draw attention to the fact that Astro Dispatch didin’t just spring up of its own accord and takes a lot of effort to upkeep.

Thankyou for all you do.

Thanks, Twilight. At the moment, I am not thinking along the lines of charging - the bookkeeping alone would be a nightmare for me however, I am totally committed to the idea of a co-op.

I love the co-op idea! Please let us know what changes, if any, we need to make to our links/widgets for AstroDispatch after the dust settles.

Your work with Top Ten and AstroDispatch has been invaluable for us asto-info junkies. Thanks!! :)
