Self Defense For Women (And Men): Saturn Tip For The Day

Outtakes and various other sundries

I feel a sense of responsibility to put this kind of stuff up here seeing as so many single women / single mothers read here and so few of us have any idea how to defend ourselves. You read a tip on this subject here or there and you never know when it might come in handy. The soldier has been here a year now and I have been transformed.

Last night we were watching a scary movie, “Strangers”. It’s classic scary movie. Girl and boy stuck in a house in the boonies. They are tormented and scared out of their wits by one or more people or entities wearing masks. Throughout the movie the soldier criticized the defense tactics of the untrained couple.

He really doesn’t see how people can be as stupid as they were in the movie but fact is, prior to being informed I would have acted very similar to the girl in the movie if in similar circumstances. Yep, I’d have run around in a circle with my heart pounding and my head in my hands with absolutely no idea what to do. So here is what you do if someone is outside your house, breaking in…

First, kill all the lights. If you leave them on, they can see you / know where you’re at but you don’t know where they are.

Second, find a weapon. Maybe more than one and of course be ready to use it. Have that absolutely in your head.

Third, get yourself in position so you can strike.

Fourth, when you do strike, strike hard and fast using the element of surprise.

In other words, lie in wait and attack (with everything you’ve got) when the intruder does not expect it and hit hard (or shoot) without restraint because this is going to be your best shot.

I think you can see that following this strategy will wildly increase your chance of not being harmed.

Also, if there are more than one of you in the house, do not separate. Make whoever it is take you all on at once.

If you think of these things now, when you find yourself in crisis you just may be able to pull this off and save yourself…

Good advice! :)

Hey, I have a question about the recent surge in people buying guns & ammo. [saw the 60 Minutes program] My personal feeling as someone who grew up with guns and learned to use and respect them as a kid [Scorp Mars-ASC], is the idea of people with no training running around with loaded weapons is as scary as hell! What do you & the Soldier think?

took down the comment because he amended it and I don’t want to have to argue or defend his views..

You know what’s kind of funny is that someone breaking in and killing everyone has been a lifelong phobia for me. I used to get a lot of sleep paralysis where I’d wake up with an intruder over my bed. Maybe that’s how I died in another life.

These past 10 months are the longest I’ve had to sleep alone in probably the past 10 years. I’ve gotten more comfortable with it but there are still nights I feel like my heart starts racing when I hear a noise outside. I will DEFINITELY remember all of this. I’d never actually sat down to think what’d I’d do if the scenario actually happened.

I didn’t realize the light thing, but now that you mention it, it makes sense. I always get upset watching classic horror films that the girls are so weak. Then again where would the story or horror come from if not stupid characters.

This advice has already seeped in. Good strategies.

good, tan. Takes about 3 seconds to come up with a plan once you know you need one.

To elaborate - lights out, get the weapon and then “build a defensive position”.

Meaning, get in position so you can defend yourself… and then follow through - the point is to take the guy out / down / stop him from hurting you.

We hadn’t been married long when a man banged on our front door to get in our (middle of nowhere) house at like 3am on a weeknight, yelling & walking around the perimeter of the house, banging on all the windows. Scary. Took forever for the police to get there.

We did step 1 and 2 and 3 haha & were waiting.

Funny because we both have 12th house Mars but also Saturn & no you’re not going to break down our door and come in our house haha.

huh. I’d always kill the lights but I have pretty awesome night vision compared to most everyone I know. That might come from growing up in the middle of nowhere - no lights at night so if you’re out after dark you find your way home without help.

Lived alone most all of my life and never had any fear of intruders or anything. I’ve got that whole venus mars pluto t-square which i think means i’m at higher risk for violence?

What I’m short on is weapons (beyond the kitchen knife) so that gives some pause. Oh nevermind, crowbar.. if I can remember where it got used last ;)

Thanks Elsa! I’m always scared of having a gun because I know how clutzy I am, I swear I’ll shoot myself in the face.

But I am adept to fight dirty…ball squeezing, eye gouging, nostril pulling, castrating, etc……whatever it takes. I’ll be damned if someone takes my children’s mother away for no good reason.

Oh and Monica, I have the same issue. I have nightmares all of the time of a man breaking into my house. During the dream I get a sensation of familiarity or deja vu. Same thing with dreams I have of terrorist attacks.

Oh Shell, I get terrorist attack/apocalypse dreams too. Intruders, apocalypse/war, and earthquakes are the 3 main themes in my dreams since I was a kid.

Yes! The apocalypse ones too!
I’m always running for dear life, trying to avoid the bombs. The worst part is, my children are always at a different location and I’m dying inside trying to find them. *shivers*
Would this be a Pluto thing we have in common? What rules dreams/nightmares/intuition?
I have Scorpio ASC and a 12th house Pluto.

yeah, there were police wandering around the neighborhood in the early morning a couple months ago telling us to bar our doors and windows and call 911 if anything happened (for what good it would do us considering this came right after a barrage of automatic weapons fire) and it was kind of a wake up call. didn’t dare turn on any of the lights or really move around the house much… or sleep…
