Saturn In Virgo: Psychological Effects Of Smaller Packaging Of… Everything At The Grocery Store
Astrology in real life
A year and a half ago when Saturn went into Virgo I said we were going to wind up on a collective diet and it is happening. I made those videos about portion and control and more recently have been writing all over the place about how I keep going to the grocery store to find the things I buy regularly have been downsized.
I am talking about a standard 1/2 gallon of ice cream (not any more), the 1 pound package of pasta (now 12 oz), a 3# bag of onions (now weighs 2#) and most recently, 1/2 pound of sliced cheese now weighs 6 oz.
Eventually everything will be downsized like this and I am beginning to see an effect. Keep in mind that while the package is smaller, the cost has not budged so what we’ve got is a HUGE increase in what it costs to feed your family. We’re talking on average 25-30% higher food cost and the other night when I was digging in now narrower package of ice cream to make, Vid a shake, it occurred to me to scoop less.
The fact is many people are going to have to do this… serve smaller portions to their families simply because this is what they will be able to afford.
I’d go further to say that the “epidemic” of obesity has probably peaked. If this is not the case then very, very soon…
Has anyone else noticed anything along these lines? How do you feel about it?

Well, I think obesity is directly related to income levels. Unhealthy food is cheaper, and it still is. I don’t think that reducing how much pasta is in a box is going to affect obesity - but for sure my grocery bill keeps going up and freaking up, because I do still try to buy as much as possible, healthier items. Now things that are “on sale” cost what they used to when they were regular price. I bring all the coupons, do the best I can, but I would say I am paying about 100.00 extra a month, when all is said and done.
“…but I would say I am paying about 100.00 extra a month, when all is said and done.”
me too. And then you get a load of some of the other added cost coming up ’round the bend…
Thing is, I think this is the tip of the iceberg.
Downsizing of packaging is just another marketing gimmick to pull on the consumer while they continue to charge more and give you less. As far as the obesity “epidemic” there are lots of factors here: The vibrational pattern of the earth has compressed (and speeded up) causing the physical human body to physically expand, (2) lots of people eating to relieve emotional stress, and the degradation of the food chain, (3) less exercise because there is lots to keep us inactive, (computer, tv, video games, etc.) Also, people are just darn tired, wired and stressed! Once the earth has completed her Ascension process, human weight will stabilize. Until then, eat well, sparingly, healthfully and keep moving.
isn’t monetary inflation wonderful? it really is still one slice of pie, it’s just a smaller slice
I see pluto in capricorn as at the very root of the price increases that we’ve been seeing and will continue to see, as well as with the whole “economic collapse”, etc. Wasn’t pluto in cap during the boston tea party and subsequently through most of (or all of) the revolutionary war? as pluto travels through the signs, it seems to challenge us at the base of society, fundamentally changing our collective perception of the world…with capricorn it’s after our $$/wealth/value and asking us to take a long, hard look at the people who make the rules
I’m buying my canned food at big lots now and using a shopper card at the grocery store even though that bothers my sense of privacy. Hope they are getting lots of good data from “Georgette Orwell” at her PO Box though.
Jilly– lol!! I like that ![]()
Jilly to funny!
it is expensive to eat in general. I’m all for people eating less, and buying better foods. But you just can’t afford it.
I know that for myself when I eat to much or eat the things I know I shouldn’t it’s because of stress. I’m trying to feed myself for emotional comfort and protection. Life is hectic, stressful and yes there’s to many things keeping us in doors.
Jilly - get your friends to trade shopper cards with you. Or ask a perfect stranger in the parking lot. It scrambles their data but still gets you a discount.
As for liking the trend -no. I would if it meant, somehow, that the people growing the food were getting paid more and didn’t have to also work off-farm jobs. I would like it if it meant that the processing factories slowed down and invested in some cleanliness. But they run 24/7 on immigrant labor (sometimes legal, oftentimes not) and because those people are scared for their livelihoods and food on the table they are willing to go against proceedure at the request of a manager. I had a girlfriend that helped as a translator - a group of immigrants that were harassed by the INS because they were trying to unionize. She quit eating meat after the experience.
What scares me the most about the package downsizing is that per food amount we’re getting more packaging and more waste. Which is just more consumptive - just in a different unseen area.
ack subscribing to this … now.
I started to notice this about a year ago, the cardboard is even thinner and flimsy on most items, they will crush very easily. My deer park bottles wobble now too! I know we need to be conscious of the environment however these changes I am seeing are saving money for the producer not the consumer. We are a family of four and I have seen my grocery bill double. If I want organic milk it’s almost $7.00 a gallon, I shouldn’t have to pay that much money to ensure my children are not getting the growth hormones in almost everything we buy now a days. It makes me sick and I am at a loss on what to do. The money we make is being sucked out with the cosmic vacumm! I cannot save and it seems everytime I turn around it’s another unexpected expense. I am a Virgo moon and Saturn is having it’s way with me. Long time reader, first time poster, I felt I had to comment as I am seeing this in the Northern Virginia area and it’s getting worse by the week!
just bought a case of oil for the car and it’s four times as much as it was a year ago….
Today I went to McDonald’s, which I haven’t done since leaving my former job, so I haven’t seen the menu in a while. I ordered the crispy chicken club sandwich, same as I used to, and the patty was about 1/2 the size it used to be, so much smaller that I laughed, a tiny thing inside the bun. I looked carefully and it couldn’t be an accident - I think they are actually serving smaller patties. Now, that’s probably good in the long run for people who eat at McDonald’s all the time (not getting fat), but the first thing I thought of was your posts on this, Elsa!

I’m not too happy about the cost staying the same BUT I think that we Americans are in sore need of a wakeup call about our consumption, so if people are forced to consume less, or actually start paying attention to their consumption instead of indiscriminately gorging themselves, well, I take that as a very positive thing.
