“P, I’ve got it made. I have the best girlfriend in the world, the best dog in the world, the best step son in the world AND I’ve got the best son in the world. I’ve got a cooler full a food and a place to sleep that’s warm. I’ve got it made all right. Do you know I’ve never had it made in my life? Well now I do.”

“Well, jeez,” I said.

“And I appreciate it. I appreciate the hell out of you. I appreciate you and Vid appreciates you too. Even… you want to talk about a lower life form, look how Dora appreciates you. She’s appreciative,” he said.

I was dumbstruck because he is exactly right. “Dora is appreciative. She really is an appreciative dog,” I said to acknowledge.

“Hell yeah! She’s not going to say no to help. She’s glad to have it. She’s appreciative for everything she gets…”

It struck me it may be this is a large factor in who is likable… and who is not. Because that damned Dora is as lovable as they come and I am telling you, she appreciates every single thing you do for her and every single thing you give.

“All right! You picked me up from surgery and thanks for carrying me.”
“All right! You didn’t forget I was out here peeing and you came and let me back in the house so I don’t freeze standing out here by the door..”

She brings a lot of joy with her attitude, I’ll tell you that. If you compare this to someone who does not appreciate other people’s efforts or takes them for granted it’s eye-opening.
