“Sleep tight, America! I’m in the front… in the foxhole!” the soldier said boldly… it was a joke. “Yep, all you Americans can sleep tight tonight because I am in this foxhole - I am on duty - IN THE FRONT, that’s where I am!”
I roared. He was making the remark because as always, everything in his world is going WRONG.
(swearing below the break)
“Yep, P, no one ever wanted to get in a foxhole with me. They said, that bastard has a dark cloud hanging over his head. I’m not getting in a hole with him! “Where is that asshole? Where is that bad luck motherfucker? Wherever he is, that is where we don’t want to be. That’s where the attack will be coming for sure. And I’d stand up in my hole with my black cloud around me and and say, SLEEP TIGHT, AMERICA! Because my ass is in this hole, right here, and I will be defending your ass with my ass, TONIGHT!”

Bad luck huh? I don’t know when he fought, but I get the idea that he is alive and intact. Just how bad kinda luck is that? Sounds like a pretty OK idea to me and I’d rather be in his fox hole than in the fox holes of all the people who died and were severely injured. Maybe his luck isn’t all that bad…he got back with you, didn’t he?
Loonsounds, I think it’s widespread opinion his luck is very bad. When people do not want to get in a fox hole with you and tell you there is a black cloud over your head this represents a consensus.
I really don’t think there is a person on this planet who knows the soldier who thinks his luck is good. In fact it is jaw droppingly bad and further he has been severely injured, repeatedly, it is just irrelevant to him as he is a soldier and expects such.
K, ya know, I am the last person who is up to date on wide spread opinion. In fact, I guess some might say that to have simply survived is both a blessing and a curse. Luck? Who knows, certainly not I.
