“Elsa P, You Don’t Need Astrology…”

Astrology in real life

zodiac girlOccasionally someone asks me why I do not (or have not) pursued a degree in psychology. I explain that I’ve not got no drive or ambition in the direction but I have endless drive and ambition to do what I do… help people with astrology.

People who don’t like or don’t know astrology, but do know and do like me sometimes suggest I am able to do what I do because I am empathetic or intuitive and astrology plays no part.

I tell them that while I take this a compliment, it’s not the case. I am perceptive and I can and do guess at things but I don’t know unless I look at the chart and verify. Plus the chart always gives me more information then I can discern on my own via and and all other possible means.

Today I was having this type conversation via email and the last line I wrote was this:

“Your exposure to me as-is, as I am right now is more valuable than it would be if I were a trained psychologist so just wait 10 years and tell me if I’m not right.”

I didn’t think about it at the time. Words come out me me with little thought but I realized later what this means.

It means is that it is more important for me to be useful and valuable to people then it is for me to have status… or anything else for that matter.

I don’t know what more to make of this other than I thought I ought to write it down.

‘it is more important for me to be useful and valuable to people then it is for me to have status’

I wonder if this is a Capricorn thing…not sure if it is but this resonates, big time. The way I frame it for my Cappy self is integrity over gratification. I guess my 8th House Saturn (ruler of Cap) just doesn’t anticipate gratification.

That resonates with me too, and I sure do appreciate your blog, Elsa. Thanks.

I can assure you I have met with many, many “degreed specialists” and I can count on one hand how many of them were actually helpful. I am not knocking therapists, or counselors, as I feel most people who go into this field most certainly did so because they want to help others. But my experience with my daughter, child psychiatrists, neurologists, psychologists, pediatricians, let’s just say I left many offices in tears, and most definitely un-helped, that is for sure.

Some (probably most) of us are just more effective when we don’t over think things.

First of, Elsa, you have been more valuable to me than any psychiatrist or psychologist I have ever dealt with.

I remember an instance when I dropped my grandmother off to see her psychiatrist and when I came to pick her up she was in tears. As a trained professional, he had all this technicality but no heart and for certain very little empathy for others. As an astrologer, you have an insight into your ” patients ” souls that you can’t acquire at medical school.

About a year ago, I had nervous breakdown that landed me in the hospital and the psychiatrist on call was absolutely HORRIBLE. She was the most insensitive woman that I have ever met, I couldn’t tell who was crazier her or me. I was later transferred to a mental hospital for evaluation and I spoke to this other psychiatrist for 15 minutes. During those 15 minutes I realized just how careless and ruthless these people actually are. He could have atleast acted as though he cared.

I hope that you know that your words and your insight have helped me immensely. Sometimes just one single person understanding your situation can turn it all around.

You are a natural psychologist and I rather talk to you about my troubles than with any trained professional. I’m actually going to school to become a psychiatrist and I think you must have a really high EQ.

Diana, thank you. I don’t have the slightest desire to be a psychologist or a psychiatrist. I am interested in psychology but working in those fields have no appeal to me. I am also interested in criminology, economics, sociology, astrology, philosophy and a few other things.

I want to do exactly, precisely what I am doing. I am sure I was born for it and know that my way has very distinct advantages over the a traditional path however they are only advantages if you feel the way I do as outlined above.

Vid and I are working with a psychologist who has been in the biz for 30 and I admire the hell out of him. He was born for what he is doing, this is clear but all it makes me know is that I am born for what I am doing.

I actually have some pretty high level thoughts about this but when I started talking about them, I heard there was a book out there that was in the same vein… or at least touched on the things I was trying to convey so I am waiting to read the book. I am pretty sure my ideas are original as they came from my own very unique experience but I don’t know until I check out this book.

in whatever case, the upshot is the world badly, badly need mavericks and so they have one and I am her.

I agree. I feel that astrology is an art because you really are deciphering the life of an individual. You know what I find extremely interesting? The fact that you know your psychology and from what it seems it sort of combines with your astrological readings to make a very thorough analysis. I think that regardless of opinion, astrology is a form of psychology and together if merged properly can shed light for many people who are stuck in the dark.

You are lucky because I know so many people going to school to become something that you are supposed to be from the moment you are born. It’s sort of like an artist, they just are, they don’t transform into one or better said become one.

Like you said, you were born to do this and you do a damn good job. Reminds me of a few posts back when you wrote about receiving hate mail. People are just ignorant and they can’t spot quality when they see it maybe that’s why I got so insulted.

Well thanks you guys. The other day I was thinking about Sippie Wallace. She’s and old blues singer… Bonnie Raitt has recorded with her - a duet of her song, “Women Be Wise”

Women be wise,
keep your mouth shut,
don’t advertise your man
Don’t sit around gossiping,
explaining what your good man really can do
Some women nowadays,
Lord they ain’t no good
They will laugh in your face,
Then try to steal your man from you
Women be wise,
keep your mouth shut,
don’t advertise your man

Your best girlfriend,
she might be a highbrow,
she changes clothes 3 times a day
What do you think she’s doing now,
while you’re so far away
She’s loving your man in your own damn bed
You better call for the doctor, mama,
try to investigate your head
Women be wise, keep your mouth shut,
don’t advertise your man

Women be wise, keep your mouth shut,
don’t advertise your man
Don’t sit around, girl,
telling all your secrets,
telling all those good things he really can do
If you talk about your baby,
you tell me he’s so fine
Lord honey,
I just might sneek up and try to make him mine
Women be wise,
keep your mouth shut,
don’t advertise your man

Don’t be no fool,
don’t advertise your man (baby don’t do it)

!~~
Damn, damn, damn good song she was just born able to write it… and sing the living shit out of it and no musical education is going to help her one bit. However, living is.

Bottom line - it takes all kinds and since I am what you call a “unique rabbit” (old joke from my day) I think it is important I stay this way.

Elsa, I totally understand and agree on what you say about being an astrologer and having a degree in psychology. Most people wouldn’t even ask a psychologist, but they listen to an good astrologer because they want an independent and non-judgmental assessment, that they can relate to themselves.
Also, astrology existed long before all these newer sciences came up and is more comprehensive than any of them. That’s why they could create the psychological astrology, but I never heard of an astrological psychology… because astrology is too vast to fit into psychology.

carl jung did refer to astrology as psychology’s “older sister”

Here’s the actual quote :
Obviously astrology has much to offer psychology, but what the latter can offer its elder sister is less evident. So far as I judge, it would seem to me advantageous for astrology to take the existence of psychology into account, above all the psychology of the personality and of the unconscious. - Carl G. Jung

so i think in this case, to me it sounds like people who have told you these things did seem to have the right intention in mind ( as you said, it was taken as a compliment ), but perhaps they don’t understand how psychology and astrology are so closely linked. I think if you did apply yourself, for example, toward a profession in psychology/therapy your intuitiveness would definetely have been a plus– it’s not the direction you went but i don’t have doubts that you would have been successful in it, because being a good astrologer doesn’t only equate to being well versed in astrology– but also having a large capability for understanding, and relating to people. So it’s a combination of both things, i suppose. And as another poster said, yeah if anything, deeper understanding of psychology even enhances insight in astrology ( I’m a psychology major in undergrad ) .. it makes sense after all

Well, I think you are a crusader in the midst of our time. I admire your bravery and I truely believe you are a voice of our age. Psychology is all well and good if the theory is at one with mankind and loves mankind.

And I hear those words about the man in our lives. He needs the woman in us just as we need the man. The instinct will always guide us.

I’m no fan of counseling, but if I was going to go ahead with it, I’d go to an astrological counselor. Well…they’re few and far between.

I would much rather have someone look at my chart, like you do with other people’s, and get straight to the heart of the problem, instead of wasting hours and hours pussyfooting around it. (That’s been my experience with “traditional” counseling.)

You’re a natural at what you do, Elsa, and we (the regular readers/posters) all thank you for sharing your gift with us.

“It means is that it is more important for me to be useful and valuable to people then it is for me to have status… or anything else for that matter.” What a clear solution for recouping a fractured system of accumulation. I value you, Elsa.

I have had counseling in the past - luckly I had a very good one - she showed me how to take my life back for myself and not rely on others in only a few sessions (her aim was for me to be me and not reliant on her - but as I have a Leo sun and a Scorpion moon - I was obviously going to be a mindset area of sheer bloody mindedness to get through this).

As far as Astrolgy goes it has given me more answers and explanations than any other so called graduate/professional of a particular school of thought. Anything but.. some have just been down right rude and dangerous - just full of their own importance. I wanted help, not judgements.

Astrology is not only a classic science for study, but a tool for developement. I am so glad I found this site. I cant do anything about others (only forewarned) but its showing me how to help and understand myself.
