Astrodienst has lots of great resources for the beginner. You can use the raw data from their site as you’re learning your way.

First of all, sign up for a free account and enter your birthdata. Be sure to get your birth time in there, and you’ll need to enter the location you were born for the most detailed results. Then hop on over to the free horoscope section!

A very basic overview of your chart can be found in the Astro Click Portrait.

With the portrait, you see your natal chart. Click on symbols for planets, signs, houses or aspects (lines between planets) to get a popup window with more information.

Looking for a quick take on your planet postions? Check out the “Short Report” option from the free horosocopes page and you’ll get a summary on the bottom.

If you want to check transits, then look at the Extended Chart Selection.

There are lots of options for the extended chart selection!

Selecting “natal charts and transits” will let you see where transits (for the date entered) fall in relation to your natal chart. The transits appear outside your chart wheel, whereas the planets’ positions at your birth are inside the wheel. Experiment with the options to see what you can figure out.

Want more detailed info on your plantary aspects? Try the “Chart Drawing with Ascendant” option, and use the link “View the Additional Tables (PDF)” on the page you get for a printable summary. Aspects are laid out on in a chart on the bottom.

Don’t worry if you don’t know what it all means at first. (Most of us don’t!) But with a little practice, you can easily refer to the info available as you’re learning to interpret it. Good luck!

THANKS, DIXIE of goodkarmahost.com and lowcarbeating.com

I use astro dot com and like it very much. I also use the ephemeris link on the front page quite often. I think it’s the link on the left that says 2000 years ephemeris. I like that it has the current planet positions right on the front page.

Great idea for an article! I’ve been meaning to do something like this for a while as well. Their site is so expansive that you really do need some sort of guide to get started. Thanks Dixie and Elsa!

The options available on astro are phenomenal, and just when I thought I’d tapped the resources completely, there’s something new! I never tried the AstroClick, what a cool tool! Thanks Elsa and Dixie!
