Do You Believe The World Will End In 2012? What Is The Pay Off For That?
Astrology in real life
maureen writes regarding 2012 and the end of the world
“Elsa, exactly. I always think, well, do soldiers worry about the end of the world when they’re in the thick of the action, battle, what have you? No, they just do their jobs. Isn’t that what we’re all asked to do? As a matter of fact, if you’re worried about this kind of thing, is there an astrological solution? Feed your mars, for example? Huh.”
This is an interesting question! First I have to say you don’t feed Mars, you feed your Moon. In contrast you exercise your Mars but on the end of the world thing, some people do believe this stuff and I imagine it is because they get some kind of pay off.
For some, it may serve as a reason to be apathetic and/or passive. Who cares when we are all going to die anyway? May as well charge some more stuff you can’t afford!
Others might just want to have something to talk about… a little mental masturbation. When I was a kid and believed this stuff it was because I wanted to think there was a way to escape my circumstance. But you were asking after a solution or way to resolve your anxiety.
I would point out that the anxiety is manufactured and it is manufactured for reason. For example, a person might want to sell books or an article to prestigious magazine or newspaper so they come up with some provocative theory even if it is preposterous! A person might believe what they read because it’s fashionable to do so in their circle or because it distracts them from everyday drudgery.
If you do have these fears, ask yourself WHY you have them because there is no actual concrete reason and historically… well people have been saying this periodically throughout history. We were supposed to all die from Y2K, remember?
Can you think of ways people benefit by believing the world is going to end?

As you said, Elsa, for some this believe is a welcome excuse for not caring and for not taking responsibility, others have something to talk about, but for the makers and/or promoters I think this concept is plain business. As you also said, they want to sell something.
First they offer “seminars” to teach you about the Mayas and how advanced they were. Then they sell the Mayan calendar with the dooming message. Since the Mayas didn’t survive, its’ easy for people to associate the message with their own fears and struggles. And if the Mayas where so advanced and didn’t survive, we’ve got no chance, we’re doomed. And now the final step, they sell you their “survival kit” in the form of so called spiritual preparation to face the inevitable with again seminars, workshops, counseling, products, but also in the form of physical preparation. There are for instance some world maps that show how the earth will look like after the big catastrophe, and most parts are covered by water. So they are in fact buying and reselling land on these “safe spots” to the people who follow them, and they are storing and selling seeds of all kind of plants. Some are also selling “help from above” because they receive instructions from potential saviors from the outer space, no kidding.
I personally know people who are in this business and they offered me a ticket on their ark, but I already told them I’ll stay where I am to feed the doves - for the ark, you know. I also asked them if they don’t offer seminars to learn how to walk on the water, which would make more sense to me. Because this ark thing is kind of outdated, right?
Anyway, that’s their business, first they create the catastrophe in people’s mind and then they offer the salvation, and I agree on that anyone who believes what they say is dumb. I’m happy to read the comments on this blog and confirm that however, many of us are not.
People like my parents love it. I think they want the world to end so they can get to heaven sooner. Also by instilling fear of the end of the world they can gain more followers to their religious beliefs.
Although I may find the theories fascinating: astroid, pollution, sun going nova, etc. It freaks me out big time because of what I was taught when I was younger. I try not to dwell.
my family is part of a religious tradition believing the world will end…well, any time now. The organization uses the concept to help encourage members to more enthusiastically proselytize and more closely adhere to doctrine.
They hinted very strongly in 1975 that it was going to happen in September. (Obviously, a miscalculation, huh?) Since then, they’ve learned not to promote a specific date, but general signs such as natural disasters, wars, etc. Needless to say, there’s always “evidence” of this vein available.
It is not the “end of the world”, but, rather, the “end of the world” as we know it…..
I find that an exhilarating thought as the present paradigm causes me much grief.
It appears that it is the major media outlets that are using “scare tactics” to corral the mass mind with their perpetual repeats of the “Doomsday” scenario.
Fear seems to be the order of the day with Hollywood and Corporate America.
Elsa, where is this coming from ……from an Astrological point of view?
Religion..what a joke. The winter soltice sun will be aligned with the galactic center(milky way) The mayans had the most accurate astronomical clock. Dec 2012 according to Mayan time coincides with that conjunction and a few other astronomical events that are currently starting to happen. Unfortunately we have changed time so our calendar date will not be exact. Religion wants everyone to run for cover.
Gravity is part of life and we all know scientific data shows the poles were in different locations. The weather is already changing a little and we all know about solar flares and what havock it does to satellites.
Goddess, 1975 funny you should name that year it was the first year women were allowed to graduate from the astronomy program at Princeton. They were allowed to attend but were not allowed to receive a degree. Perhaps that is why they thought the world would end…LOL
The “world as we know it” has ended countless times before, just ask elderly people, they’ve already seen a couple of endings and are still alive.
Sitchin Theory
The planet is called planet x or nibiru.
orbital process 3600 years.
dec 2012 it will be in the path of the Winter Soltice in Conjuntion.
This is a theory. I have a few friends from engineering school who have different thoughts on this. Some believe his theory some do not.
goddess- the evidence is staggering and growing every day. [This is me being sarcastic]
not caring about trying to accomplish any long term goals?
i think, mostly, though, is the element of escapism… and everyone who profits by it…
The Mayans texts were destroyed by invaders.
We really do not have all of the info to know what this correlates to. Some scholars say a flood. But how do we know the Mayans definition to a flood in comparison to our own definition ?
A geater amount of gravity will be impacting the earth. That is really the only scietifc fact that anyone can prrove from any of the theories from the alignment. And in actual astronomicl terms the alignment already started to begin in 1999.
These are the only facts I can sort out that they have any proof of. Gravity is a force of nature and science. It has nothing to do with Gay people or some of the other stupidity they preach in religion. Yah the world is ending women are attending college and same sex couples want to marry…LOL that definetly would be for some the world ending.
Also being sarcastic and I think I am understanding randamandars joke. This is quite funny
phewww- I was beginning to think my jokes were so obtuse that you could line them up like the standing stones at carnac, blunt edge up, where people could admire them from a distance or say wtf was that.
ha ha randamandar that was funny!
I work for people of the particular religion you’re speaking of, goddess. At Christmas time they hoarded all of the chocolates and alcohol that our clients gave us, which I thought was interesting seeing they don’t even celebrate it.
They asked me to join once, which some of the staff actually got offended by: “I’ve been here 10 years, what about me?” I guess my Sag ASC was showing…
wel as far as i’m concerned, you weren’t missing out an anything, kash. i don’t miss it a whit. ![]()
Heh. It was pretty funny, especially as the guys who protested both are well known to have crack problems. Gee, sorry boys but y’all are being JUDGED!
thanks goddess! kash- I’m going to quit while I’m ahead.
When your calendar ends, you put it in the recycling, or you raid it for the cool pictures, but you buy another calendar.
Most of us have done that recently.
The Mayans lacked paper, so they made a really cool stone calendar that would last a few millennia. (saves repeating all of that carving and chipping and stuff) And it did. And they were very advanced astronomers because they didn’t have to keep chipping out new bloody calendars!! They had time to be more observant![tongue firmly in cheek here]
NEWS FLASH - our earth lines up with the Sun and the Galactic center every year… Just not usually on the solstice…. and yes the Mayans knew that too, that’s how they built their spiffy calendar.
So, the Mayans do a new-years clean-out, and the world comes to an end… sounds logical to me!!
What’s the payoff? same as the e-mail spammers, they’re looking for people who are stupid enough to believe the con so they can fleece them.
Payoff for the believer? like all believers, it palms off the responsibility of reason to someone else, you’d be amazed at how much people are prepared to pay in order not to think beyond a certain date - its an all-to-common phenomenon.
I don’t think the world is going to end, but I do think something interesting is going to happen. I enjoy thinking, and this is one of those rich subjects about which there is a lot to think about. If someone wants to take a short cut on the subject, David Wilcock was just on Coast to Coast last week and discussed this subject extensively.
Ok, lets get a few things into perspective…
The world always was changing, and always will be changing.
The world “as we know it” has changed repeatedly, and without a doubt, is changing exponentially (that is, our culture is changing at an ever increasing rate of change).
People have used apocalyptic nonsense to frighten and fleece each other for 3 millennia.
2012 is nothing new, nor will it be the last of its kind.
I haven’t heard Wilcock, but every time I go to one of the sites that is supposed to be very authoritative on the subject, the science is full of holes and the whole thing smacks of a con-job…
However, I’m sincerely glad it has got people thinking, and I hope that some of these thinking people will go on to weigh popular hysteria against the greater witness of human history and draw conclusions that enlighten and inspire them.

Not sure if this is correct, but some religious organization, or cult, could profit if they somehow convinced you they can save your soul before the world comes to an end (for a fee, or course?)
