The Economic Downturn Effecting Internet Sites You Like… Blogs Like Mine And Various Other Sundries

Astrology (blogging) in real life

dollar.jpgThe economic downturn is hitting the internet as well. Yesterday I was advised the widget for the astro dispatch was going out of business. I also got a mail from Mystic Wicks.

I do not participate there but registered some years ago so I received their mailing which said in part…

“For the past 3 years a large investment company has been a faithful advertiser for the Mysticwicks community. You may have noticed the 5 links at the bottom of all the site pages (removed now). In exchange for those five links, this company paid us $150 a month. This has been a tremendous help to our community with respect to paying our server bills and bandwidth costs. Over the years Mysticwicks continues to grow and with the adding of new sites to the community our server and bandwidth costs have increased.

Due to the current economic downturn, the investment company has been forced to discontinue their advertising. This is having a huge impact in paying the bills. In fact, our current server bill is late, because right now we are short about $50 for this month…”

They go on to explain the google ads don’t cut it… the revenue is unreliable and this blog is no different hence the amazon link as well as the classes I am teaching these days.

Point is it is harder and harder to sustain things like this and if people don’t or won’t pitch in they will obviously disappear. I took that widget for granted, didn’t you? Today, I think that was pretty ignorant on my part.

Regarding Pluto in Capricorn, I respect it along with the free market. I am also pretty keen on the idea the universe acts in a person’s best interest so while I will do everything I can to sustain this blog, if this proves impossible I am sure it will because my energy is more urgently needed on another front.

I don’t really think this is the case. I think I am doing exactly what I am supposed to be doing but you know how that goes. No one ever thinks it’s going to be them, next!

Oh no! I LOVE that widget! I’m crushed!

I would probably pay to subscribe to this blog. The amount of useful content is staggering. I’ve used the Amazon link to shop (and will do so again), but that sounds like a sort of trivial amount of money for you.

casseia, thank you. I don’t write this blog for money - if I did, I would have to say it has been a total failure.

What happens is people have various bills and they have to cut back. I mean, this is just reality. You cut things from your budget when you can no longer afford them. This blog takes time and money and so far I have the time and money to continue but I am hardly immune from what is going on economically.

I am the one who racked up $30,000 (my end of the cost after the insurance) in hospital bills alone with my daughter’s illness… in just a 2 month period. I am still paying that you know, and I will be for a very long time. I am just one of those people who got hit. This was on top of having no chance whatsoever to work at a normal job, also due demands of caring for her so…

On the widget I have looked for a replacement but they are all so ugly and/or they SCROLL which I hate. For the moment it is still there and when it’s gone, I guess well come up with something… choose the least ugly??

Anyway, I am just doing my best on all fronts and will continue to… that’s all I know.
