A Vivid Reminder That People Are Fragile

Astrology in real life

dora-cheetah-sm.jpgA couple nights ago the soldier and I were discussing, Dora. We’ve decided we had better get her one of those dog heath care plans because she’s just old and needs a lot of care. Cluck is old too but does not have problems like Dora does.

We were talking about her eyes… she is totally blind in one eye and can barely see out of the other. Apparently she can see some shapes and shadows and I remarked how I can really barely tell she can’t see. She does sniff around for her food when it’s in front of her but on the other hand she navigates the house well and roams the backyard as if she can see what she’s doing. I mean if you saw her out there, you would not think, that dog is blind.

“Have you not seen her walk into a door?” he asked. After all, I am with her all day.

“Yeah, I’ve seen it but it’s very rare,” I said. And I have seen her sort of bump things lightly but then tonight - OUCH!

The door to the bedroom was open and she walked right into the edge, hitting herself square in the head, hard. She yelped of course it was terrible. And it just goes to show you people (and some dogs) are more fragile than it might seem.

Today the soldier and I got into a tango. A tango is something that has not yet escalated into a fight and we were both trying to not have things explode. His logic is nearly always impeccable and while my abstract and emotional thinking makes sense to me it is very hard to communicate it. Worse, I very much felt I was wrong in the situation however my bad feelings were real.

I finally had to remind him of his training. He has natural ability to deal with whatever comes up plus he’s been trained to the nth degree. His natural ability has been honed to a level that is pretty much unparalleled so…

“Call me what you will,” I said. ‘A civilian? I am a civilian so fact is I have a bad dream and that means 3 hours later, it may still be impacting me. I am not able to set it aside. I heard news of my daughter today and it upset me. I don’t know when I am ever not going to be upset when I hear news and this is just the way it is…”

Point here is Dora does the best she can and so do I. So do you, probably. But sometimes you’re going to hit a door. And if you can feel compassion for Dora as I am sure most of you can, then why not your friend or your lover? Why are the expectations so high?

As for the astrology I think this speaks to Venus Neptune. Some people (Cluck and the soldier) are very solid. Others (Dora and Elsa) are fairly wispy though our holograms say otherwise.

For the record, the soldier got the training analogy and adjusted right away.

Are you solid? Or wispy? Got Taurus? Or Neptune?

Mmmm… both?

I feel pretty solid with Sun conjunct Saturn; but it’s trined Neptune and I have a Pisces MC, so I’m sure others think that I’m wispy at times.
Hell, I probably am! *lol*

Neptune, maaan. I can’t get a handle on it. :)

I’m pretty wispy I guess. I hit a door not long ago and it felt exactly like an old loss. Even though the current reality is very different it sent me temporarily back in time about seven years emotionally.

Hugs to you and Dora.

Oh I am both. It depends upon the day of the week though.

This story made me cry. It reminded me of a family dog “oak” He went blind somewhat young - maybe 5 or 6 years old and so stopped chasing animals (we lived out in the country) and barking at the squirrels. But he still had a good mental map of the area around the house. If you didn’t leave a garden cart in the wrong place he never got hurt.

I began working on a long project one summer on the edge of our property and he’d follow me down there and then just sit and keep me company. Everyone started calling me “Oak’s seeing-eye human” Which was pretty accurate. That fall a neighbor killed him. Very sad, very mean neighbor.

It’s been years but I still miss him.

Awww mudlike. That’s awfully sad.

Must be a night for sad dog stories. My daughter and I remembering Where the Red Fern Grows and other sad dog stories earlier tonight.

I too have Sun conj Saturn in Aquarius, square Moon in Taurus so solid, I am. I am a rock, I am an island.

For a long time, I could not believe the people who would not do something they said they would. If I say I’d do something, I’d do it or die. Proof that you base yourself on who you are. It took a lot of Neptunian friends to teach me that if they don’t do what they said they’d do, it wasn’t necessarily in bad faith! ;-)

Compassion finally came (and expectations were lowered) as Neptune hit the grand cross and I’m probably living my Jupiter/MC in Pisces more now.

Oh but about hitting doors… I have a totally afflicted Mars in my 3H and I hit and bump into things like crazy. It’s a miracle if I am not injured or hurt more. So I can’t drive a car. I am way too scared that my driving might affect other people. It’s my phobia, although I have a driver’s license so technically, I can.

Although since my Progressed Mars is direct, it’s somewhat better.

Well I get it now. That door is usually open… or closed. Today it was cocked at 45 degrees. Vid is on Christmas break and quirky Aquarian over and running around and this is why the change. She just didn’t see it because it usually isn’t there!

I think she knows where the thresholds are and she slows down for them. The door cocked open.. well she just hit the edge of it but it won;t happen again. I understand now, I am living with a blind dog and everything has to be in the same place.

She APPEAR to be able to see though, you’d be amazed. She knows when something is on her spot on the couch for example. She’ll just stand there and stare until someone moves it.

Oh Lupa! My 4th grade teacher read that book to us, and I remember most of us cried! It’s remained one of my fave childhood books (as well as The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles).

I’m having trouble answering this question, I don’t think I understand it well enough??
I guess I’m pretty whispy. Very emotional w/ mostly low expectations (A buddhist teaching is to lower your expectations, thus lowering the chance of disappointment). But then again, I can be critical. I’m pretty solid too, if the situation calls for me to be.
My Neptune is sq. Venus, and trine sun and Mercury.
I have Taurus on the DSC

I cringe when I hear that yelping sound when a dog gets hurt! Poor Dora.

I’m wispy. It must be an amazing freaking thing to have training that forces you to be in the present at all times. I wonder if any Neptune types make it past basic training?

Ohhhh, sad dog stories just kill me. Not only have I read all the Old Yeller/Where the Red Fern Grows books, I used to have this set of 50’s dog books (all sad/loyal dog stories) that just made me cry and cry.

got taurus on the midheaven, so people see the solid. but neptune rages underneath.

which is kind of how i handle crisis, too. i’m a rock outside / dealing with the world until the immediate danger has passed, at which time i come unglued for a while.

Oh my, this is such a good one. The Dora being beautifully old and blind and Elsa being blinded by a bad, sad dream. I’m plenty of Neptune with Taurus at home … so I keep taking care of business–Strong one–with my heart on both sleeves. How does that work? “Wispy”, I like the feel of that, no relation to whimpy, we just bump into things/life. It’s okay.

I’ve got Saturn-Neptune square Venus-Uranus, so I can easily hit the door, and I’m really thankful when I realize that someone kept it open. I don’t make too many New Years resolutions because I forget them later, but this one I want to remember: to let the door open. You’re so right Elsa, we never know if our friend is in the fog or the cold behind the door, hoping it’s still open.
Dora might barely see us, but we definitely see her, she looks lovely and wise. Dogs know a lot about us humans, I had a German shepherd in my past life, Nicole was a great friend and knew all my secrets :)

Gaddd. My 5th grade teacher read us Where the Red Fern Grows and she lost it…she cried and cried and of course us kids were in awe of that.
I was completely bereft today. Thinking about my friend who died in July. What a light he was. And to think just a few days ago I was wondering if I was disassociated from my pain of losing him!

Pluto is currently trine my Taurus Chiron/Mercury conjunction (I’m also Taurus Sun). I have Neptune trine my 8th House Saturn, natally.

Sometimes you just have to lie down and cry cry cry cry the fucking blues man. There’s no way out but through.

Poor, poor Dora. :*(

You’re right, we can’t feel compassion for other people in our lives but can drop tears on the keyboard for Dora. It’s that Dora seems so innocent, and people can seem kinda crappy sometimes.

And to harp on a favorite of mine, we excuse bad behavior in adults who should have developed social and emotional skills and attack and berate children for the same deficiencies.

Hmm, maybe those ideas are not as non-sequitor-y as I thought — Dora and kids have an excuse. Many adults do not.

Perhaps at this late hour, my cup of compassion runneth dry…..

I agree Kashmiri, there is no way out but through, and tears are the best way for the pain to come out. Tears are from Neptune, they come from the depth and take us to the shore. I am sorry about your loss and wish you strength and a peaceful New Year!

I have Neptune conjunct my ascendant in Scorpio. I cry for good reason, and no apparent reason. I cannot watch any kind of movie where people suffer at the hands of others. And animal abuse makes me just as angry. Child abuse? Don’t get me started - I feel sorrow down to my soul.

This is the same reason I can never forgive someone once I know of, or have seen them , in any way being mean or vicious, especially when they pick on someone who they know is intimidated.

Dorothy, I have the same and cry DAILY. :-)
I wouldn’t know what the hell to do if my tears ever quit.

Neptune fer sure.

I used to have Where the Red Fern Grows, Old Yeller, and Anne of Green Gables all on cassette tape and I’d listen to which ever when I was going to sleep, depending on whether I wanted to be bouyed or depressed. Not usually Where The Red Fern Grows though, because at the beginning of the tape were all these creepy noises and the bit about the rat tails. Which frankly, was gross and meant I’d have to stay up much later listening so that I wouldn’t have gross and creepy nightmares.

I’m sorry about ‘Oak’, Mudlikesubstance I don’t know what’s wrong with people.

I’m a crier too…all sorts of Neptune connections and I can’t make it through the Hallmark commercial without crying, let alone the movies. I read Old Yeller aloud to a group of 7th grade boys a few years back and had to practice at home to get the tear out before I read the end to them. I often wish I was more solid.
