City To Cut Back On Plowing Snow On Side Streets
Streets & San: Snow On Monday Cost $490,000 To Clear
CHICAGO (CBS) ― Mayor Richard M. Daley said Tuesday that city crews will cut back on plowing side streets this winter in an effort to save money. The mayor said the city will only plow side streets during weekday union business hours this winter, rather than during overtime hours
But as CBS 2’s Derrick Blakley reports if there’s one city service Chicagoans demand, it’s outstanding snow removal.
“I expect for the streets to be cleaned for my tax money,” said Chicago resident Sarah Lockhart….

I live in Chicago and this sucks. If the side streets aren’t plowed there will be huge fallout and it will cost the city more(Accidents, Injuries, bad stuff). Winter is already depressing enougth but at least give us a path to leave the house.
Ugh. I am already worried because I have to shovel the snow at my building myself…. thank God I am able to work remotely. Don’t know how I will be able to get my kid to daycare though, if I can’t move my car.
I think some of the spending cuts are wrongheaded. Bloomberg is cutting money to the New York public schools and my friend says that he is cutting the vocational classes, the stuff that could engage the kids and give them some necessary skills particularly if they skate through high school and don’t go to college.
This sucks. It SUCKS SUCKS to be snowed in anywhre, let alone a big city like that. I guess treat it like Merc retro…kind of a enforced time of quiet reflection and .. whatever, relaxation…I mean, if ya can’t get to work, ya can’t get to work, what to do?
or the liquor store…
Sacrificing safety to save money. I grew up in Chicago, and it’s bad enough with people not understanding when it’s unsafe to drive, now you’re going to have unplowed streets full of snow and ice. And you can’t do tire chains, if I remember correctly.
I’m thinking many bosses aren’t going to care to hear “but I can’t get out of my street because of the snow” and people are going to end up losing jobs if they’re truly snowed in. Hopefully it won’t be a long hard winter up there.
This is an outrage!!!!!!!!!!!!! From what I hear we pay the highest taxes in the country and for what?! Where does the money go? I’ll tell you where it goes, into the pockets of the crooks who run this city!
I BET THEIR STREETS GET PLOWED!
We are going to lose are jobs if we can’t get out of our streets when the ice and snow aren’t taken care of…I am still waiting for salt on Osage/cahill it is crazy…Black sheets of ice..Mayor Daley hope you read this…
Sux, I am so sorry to read this, Amie, Lisa, and all of you who are suffering on this matter … so sorry to hear it …
OUTRAGEOUS, OUTRAGEOUS, OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!! If you live on a side street in Chicago you have to hibernate for the winter beecause snow plowing is a NO, NO. I see plow trucks just sitting on main streets. MY STREET IS A MESS-SS-SS.

Also there was not a lot of money to fill pot holes this summer…
It could very well be the Mayor is affraid they will lose a truck to a Chicago Pot Hole..
Don’t worry they will shovel the main areas
A lot of the time people do not move there cars off the side streets and they can not get the plows through, so the tow them..People can not really paying to get the car back so in a way the people on the side streets may not like this but they will be happy they don’t have to move there cars..
