Conversations With Ben - Saturn Opposite Uranus: Defending Eccentricity
Astrology in real life
Ben is half-white/ half-black, a gay cello player and teacher. We have been very close friends for twenty years. He’s a Scorpio, with an Aquarius rising and an Aries Moon. Here he defends (Saturn) his eccentricity (Uranus).
Ben has taught cello in the local school system for 20 years… barefoot. He plays with various symphony orchestras, same way. Barefoot. I dialed him up one night.
“Hello?”
“How are you, Ben?”
“Okay, Elsa. Except someone called me eccentric, today.”
Aquarius is known to be eccentric. “Yeah?” I asked.
“Yes! And it made me mad so I confronted her. I told her I was not eccentric. If you ask me, she’s the eccentric one! If anyone is eccentric, it’s her! Everyone is eccentric, I told her. What about your quirks? Yeah! I bet you have some quirks of your own! We’ve all got them so don’t you tell me that I’m eccentric. I am no more eccentric or odd than you are so how dare you call me eccentric!”
“You explained that to her?”
“I did. And she didn’t like it one bit. But I bet she thinks twice the next time she plans on calling someone eccentric. And she should! Because it’s hardly a compliment!”
“It’s not?” I asked. I was amused.
“No! No, it’s not a compliment, they are calling you weird. I’m not weird and I don’t need anyone telling me that I am! I am no more weird than anyone else and besides that, it’s just a stupid thing to say. How can you single someone out and call them eccentric when everyone in this world is eccentric? Everyone has a quirk! Find me someone who doesn’t!” he said with his voice booming.
“Gotcha. I get it now, thank you,” said my Libra to his aggressive Aries Moon.
“You’re welcome, Elsa but enough about me and enough about her too. How are youuu doing today?”

Eleni - No. Not a Gemini and nothing in the 3rd house… ![]()
In my book “eccentric” is a compliment. And so is “weird.” Possibly that is itself my quirk, or one of them.
I think it’s much worse to be called “ordinary” or “boring” ![]()
I can see his point. Annoying. I do have a friend who plays violin in various orchestras and she’s made me laugh more than once about people in the classical world complaining about her clothes. Basically she dressed “too whorishly” for them. Her words, not mine.
Personally I like to rebel (Uranus) about who I am “supposed to be” (Sun).
People think because I meet a physical “ideal” (defined by my so-called sexual desirability factor for men and, er, some women and small pets) I am supposed to be a certain way too…whatever it is I don’t know.
But some people think I’m supposed to be some kind of shallow cheerleader type, which I KNOW to be based on an opinion about my physical body and I find it a stereotype/misconception worth shattering to pieces.
If not for an Aries Mars/opposed Pluto sort of sport than anything else.
“I think it’s much worse to be called “ordinary” or “boring””
Yeah but then again, who asked her???
“Yeah but then again, who asked her???”
Oh, I completely agree…unsolicited opinions are not necessary in this life…just sayin’ ![]()
I think we need more “eccentric” peeps out there instead of sheeps, baaaaaaaaa.lol. I have an aquarius moon in the 9th house. When I was younger I didn’t want to be “different” now I embrace my differences or eccentricity. I try to teach my daughter it is ok to be different, to think for yourself, and to accept others who are different from her.
You know, I’ve been around [the world, several times, slowly], and I’m of an age, to boot. I now know that I am considerably “different” and “wierd” and “eccentric.” I am “an outsider” a good deal of the time. Sometimes I think this really sucks, and sometimes I feel that it is a supreme blessing. But everyone’s entitled to their opinion, and good luck trying to prevent them from expressing it. Also, most likely, if it’s a negative opinion about you, they will wait till you’re down, and then “pile on.” It seems to be the favorite passtime of the world. I’ve got my Uranus in my 7th house. I hear that has something to do with relationships. I sort of consider myself a “rainy day man.”
Hi Elsa,
I love my Aquarius ascendant and its accompanying ‘eccentricity’ thanks to Uranus being my chart ruler. I love being so different and my sense of humor is quirky at times, and it doesn’t bother me that aometimes i might be the only one enjoying my jokes;) I do have a Scorpio Sun too and i might feel real bad if someone says that to my face. Just that my Piscean Moon tries to find a collective reasoning to all this stuff!!!

*Eccentric*
I was *E……..* when I was younger and simply LOVED it…
I am quite ordinary now and find it soooo boring…
However, my thinking is still original. I listen to my Uranus, which I call my inner bank of innovative knowledge, and have no hesitation in applying my ideas.
I have no problems with others. I have developed my own way of applying Astrology; my suggestions are practical so people do grow…It is simply wonderful.
The key is the parents…to make it possible for you to be in balance with who you are. There is joy and beauty in ALL as long as we can see it…
!ElsaElsa!
Are you a Gemini?
I am and love things in double.
I enjoy your column.
However, I wish there was more Astrology included so we could learn from you, in this area, too.
Thank you for everything.
Enjoy!
