The soldier is going to a sword fight today. This is with a group of men interested in the Viking era and while he is not sure what to expect, he figures he may wind up fighting with a sword even though he’s never fought with a sword in his life so has no skills. nIn whatever case, he expects to get his ass kicked.
I was invited but took a pass and I am not interested in men type stuff unless there is taboo involved plus I’ve no desire to see him get his ass kicked although I will deal with the aftermath same as I did back when he used to fight with Speedy back in the day because he would come home with all sorts of bruises and black eyes.
He has been teasing me without mercy about this and I saw his T-square come alive last night. Mars (cutting) Mercury (hands) Saturn (old age). (swearing below the break)
“Of course those young motherfuckers are going to kick my ass but that’s not going to stop me. Come on you blond son of bitches, come on!” he said. “I’ll try to block as much as I can, P” he said raising arm at the elbow defensively. “But when I do that, they will probably cut my hand right off - slice!” he said, grinning.
I stared.
“Well it won’t be for nothing, P. I’m going to try to get a thrust in, I will try,” he said, thrusting his hand out as if it held a sword.
Dang. I don’t know what to do. Go shopping I guess, if only Mercury weren’t retrograde!

Your Viking weapons there are big, heavy swinging weapons, so I doubt he’ll be parrying or thrusting much.
They also wrap them in hard foam, so I doubt he’ll be amputated much.

Wait a minute. I thought the soldier had lived numerous past lives as a soldier, certainly he has had some experience with a sword.

Elsa we Native people have what we call ‘49 songs,’ which are usually just love songs sung mostly in English, but with our own melodies and the drum. There’s one called ‘Soldier Boy,’ and it says, ‘Soldier Boy, Soldier Boy, how I love those Soldier Boys!’ I want to get that song on a tape and send it to you. That’s your song!

Eh? The midieval re-enactor types use various nerfed weapons. I’ve known a bunch of them, even though I don’t do it myself. (Their weapons may or may not be usable anyways, although they usually look nice.) You’ve missed out if you haven’t had a bunch of drunk re-enactors fighting on the front lawn at the party at 2 o’clock in the morning. Getting them to calm down is a bit of work. Pesonally, the whole nerf thing makes me a little nuts - if I’m going to use blunt weapons, I’d prefer to just not mess around and go with a quarterstaff or something. But then, I could never get in the swing of the SCA either, on account of the fact that I would walk around at an SCA gathering wondering why there was no one covered in shit.
The weapons info is just common knowledge, if you pay attention to that sort of thing.
