Open Question: Your Thoughts On The Upcoming Saturn Uranus Opposition 2008-2010… The US Presidential Election
Ask the collective
These are the dates (and times) Saturn will oppose Uranus over the next few years. Saturn opposes Uranus approximating every 29 years (a Saturn cycle) so this is notable.
NOV 04, 2008 - 18VI58 / 18PI58R
FEB 05, 2009 -Â 20VI39R / 20PI39
SEP 15, 2009 - 24VI43 /24PI43R
APR 26, 2010 - 28VI46R / 28PI46
JUL 26, 2010 - 00LI25 / 00AR25R
When Saturn opposes Neptune over the last two years, I wrote a zillion blogs - The Hall Of Mirrors series and I am sure I will do the same with this aspect as it is very personal to me.
By that I mean I understand it inordinately well because I grew up with two MEGA Aquarian parents (Uranus) with a double Capricorn (Saturn) grandfather living next door. But what about the rest of you?
When you think of Saturn (authority) opposing Uranus (rebellion), what comes to mind? What kind of things do you expect to see? Notice the first exact aspect in on the day of the US Presidential election. How do you see this playing out?

well, the saturn and uranus face-off is near exact for my 1st saturn return coming up in october- whoopity-friggin-do-da!
however, as a saturn and uranus lover, on a personal level, i may be forced to choose a favorite between planetary energies AND presidential candidates. i’m still in conflict as to whether i’m a rebel or rule maker and can’t decide which MAN i want to vote into the white house.
barack is obviously the uranian and john the saturnian but those energies can be similar too. which one is “better” for the U.S.? (note the abbreviated letters and their relevance to the discussion, haha!)
Re the Saturn Uranus opposition in my own life: it happened over my natal Sun in Virgo in the mid-60’s. At that time, of course, Saturn was opposing itself and then shortly after too, my natal sun in Virgo. Needless? to say, my latter high school years were one long, often mindless, rebellion. (much to the chagrin of . . . ) I was set to become cannon fodder when I turned 18 in 1967. Couldn’t get over it, never really did. (McCain, Obama take note.)
Now it’s happening in reverse at my second Saturn return. And how coincident that it should be happening at this particular electioin/juncture in U.S. and World history. I truly wish I understood what that might mean.
Anyway, my curiosity was spurred when reading about this opposition a few days ago (thanks to Elsa’s Astro News!), and so I began looking at the Saturn/Uranus cycle over the nearly 60 years of my life. Very interesting! And, I might add, seemingly one of, if not THE most significant cycles to be observed. This could be true for everyone, but perhaps for me especially, as I am very strong with Saturn, and Uranus is my most pergrine.
One of the very best, most secure, most carefree, sustained happy times of my life happened when Saturn Uranus conjoined in ca. 1988. Still, the seeds of consequent downfall seem to be contained in those peak moments of time, don’t they? (that’s my Saturn returning, talking.)
With a stellium in Sagittarius, I’m just hoping to survive this Autumn/Winter and still possess some sanity in the end.
But like Jennifer asked, who wins? Is it a battle of opposites or can there be some sort of compromise?
I forgot to add that I’m having a Saturn-Uranus transit already, Saturn is squaring my natal Uranus. I’ve been feeling trapped and I want to say: to hell with everything every day. That’s my experience, so far.
I do think the Saturn-Uranus opposition is a one-size fits all paradigm. If one looks further back, skipping over the 1960’s Saturn-Uranus opposition, I think one can see there manifested many “flavors” of these planetary energies from 1918 to 1920. Some events were certainly more radical and jarring then others, like the pandemic Spanish Flu. I suspect some seeds of change take longer to germinate before flowering.
One can find dates here of past Saturn to Uranus oppositions –http://www.astropro.com/features/tables/geo/sa-ur/sa-180-ur/SA180UR6.html.
The 1918-1919 pandemic is worth consideration since its devasting impact across the globe brought about the demise of 5% of the world’s population — http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1918_pandemic.
But I cannot help wonder if its long term influence did not usher in needed change? The Black Death which decimated the populations of Europe eventually led to a scarity of labour and the demise of the feudal system.
So if we resist change, personally and collectively, does it come about from an external and unexpected source? A force which radically (Uranus)alters the out-worn patterns in place (Saturn)? All things must end for something new to begin.
In light, Pepper
Obviously a break in tradition.
Jeez Nov 2008 is the first one? Thats just around the corner.

I can’t bring myself to read this thread, so I just wanted to write:

What I wonder about this is: in a battle between the two, WHO WINS?
I’m inclined to say Saturn wins and squishes any and all rebellions…which seems pretty bad to have going on at this period in time because the status quo is ugly. On the other hand, Uranus might very well pull off the occasional random upset….but you can’t count on when or where that will happen.
I think everything is just going to get worse and worse, sadly. I hate to be pessimistic about this, but even if a non-Republican gets into the Oval Office, he’ll have so much mess to clean up that he won’t come out smelling like a rose the way he does now. He’ll get covered in muck and get degraded like everyone else.
