Open Question: How Much Risk Are You Willing To Take?

Ask the collective

marsKeep in mind, the Mars Uranus opposition lies across the Virgo / Pisces axis. The signs communicate! The opposition hits the soldier’s chart hard (mine too) and he keeps challenging me.

“So tell me,” he said sitting in the bathtub with me a few days ago. “How much risk would you be willing to take? I mean how high is your…”

I interrupted, “Well let’s see. I left home when I was 15 wearing rubber sandals and without a dime to my name as I recall. Then I stepped out onto the highway and got into a car with five men so yeah. I’d say I can tolerate my share of risk…”

Actually I am a pure daredevil (how could he forget) and what about you?

When it comes to risk...

Sure, it shows. Uranus and Scorpio on my midheaven so you can bet it shows. Also, Aquarius rising so there is always the vague inclination to shock, I guess.

I’ve settled down somewhat so there is less running around being crazy but it’s always there.

Hi Elsa.
An offtopic question regarding your ‘eye to the sky’ every day blog piece.
Is it a general calculation taking the earth as the point of reference or do you take your location (USA) as the reference.
Was wondering that because im from the netherlands so if it would be a location-specific horoscope it would not mean much for me! TY

Arnold, I look at the chart midmorning (10 AM-ish) at my location and write from that perspective.

I should probably post these the night before… I will try to make that change. This would help, yes?

This question reminds me of Mary Louise Parker last week on “Weeds”–her new drug-dealer kingpin/mayor of Tijuana boyfriend asks her what she’s afraid of.

She says: “Calm.”

He says: “Ah, the calm before the storm.”

She says: “No: the storm I can weather.”

I’ve become like that–mars/merc/sun in 9th with Sag rising, Jupiter in Sag in the 1st. I wasn’t like that when I was a little kid, though. I got more & more like this the whole Pluto-in-Sag era, & it’s to the point where I just can’t push it like this any longer, driving all over creation, unsure of which state I left my toothbrush or underwear in.

A nice strong interest in my Taurus moon has been brewing & seems to be coinciding well with Pluto going into Capricorn. Fingers crossed.

Calm is the new risk.

It depends on what I’m risking, and what I’m risking it for. For the right reasons, I can risk everything. For ones that don’t jibe with me, I’m very cautious.

Same here Carielle.

I like taking calculated risks that expand my life. They’re more like opportunities not risks :) Plus, there’s all that excitement and the mystery of the unknown.

I’ve been told I’m daring but I actually find if I don’t break free when the time calls I will feel despair heaped upon despair.
So some of the things I’ve done (leaving home at 16, then moving to a city where I knew no one with no money at 17, moving to Europe on a 1 way ticket at 20) were actually acts of desperation (Sun opposed Uranus).

This started young…I wandered off over and over again as a small child (under the age of 6) which is soooo weird considering how clingy I was to my Mum.
Fucked if I could explain that dichotomy!

I have Saturn in 1st - not a very risk-inclined position for a person. I’m mostly very cautious.

But other things in my chart give me an inclination towards taking risks in specific, ethereal ways - mind and heart, specifically. I’ve been titled “brave” by familiars, which is strange since I have to over-plan in order to do anything. I guess they don’t see that.

Hmmmmm. I am in the 4 percent. Hope more votes come in! Anyway, I am not sure that it is true in comparison to how much I want it to be true (from a spiritual perspective of fearlessness.)

Oh yes, this is Jup/Uranus conj 1 degree in cancer in the 5th house, Jup rules Asc, Uranus rules 12. I risk it all. Over and over and over again.

Arnold- The eye-on-the-sky pieces Elsa does are general enough for anybody, anywhere. In the Netherlands, you will be many hours ahead of her (depending on where in the USA she is).

Time and location matters a lot when reading natal charts, but general trends can be read anywhere.

When you read “the moon enters Sagittarius today” the only part that may be different is that the time it entered was actually late last night for you, which is a function of how we measure time, and has nothing to do with when the Moon enters Sagittarius.

We calculate an exact time for when the Moon enters Sagittarius in GMT, and we adjust the time of day when that happens to suit the clocks at out location..

I hope this clears things up for you

Risk- Uranus conjunct MC conjunct Mercury in the 9th, Jupiter square MC in 12th, Saturn in the first.

I take a lot of risks, but they are always calculated.

In my Saturnine world, a risk that is taken without calculation is an act of stupidity.

Or, as I am fond of saying, the difference between courage and stupidity is only ever determined in history.

I don’t even know how to answer this question. :/

I’ll take risks on some things (quitting one job before finding another, walking alone through bad neighborhoods at night, choosing to leave home rather than submit to irrational demands) but not on others (always wear my seatbelt, don’t give out personal info, had a place to stay when I left). I’m more of a risk-taker than some, I suppose?
Damned Libra. *lol*
