Open Question: Libra Wants Advice Around How To Make A Decision
Ask the collective
Dear Elsa,
Any tips to help a Libra rising make up her mind? I spend so much time agonizing over how others will react to my decisions, that I forget to ask myself what I really want. I think I need instructions on how to be honest without hurting others. Thanks!

Dear Libra, I suffer like this myself and while traditional astrology encourages you to act as the opposite sign, Aries i.e. every man for himself, that is easier said than done.
In reality, I think the best solution is to incorporate both Aries and Libra. Asserting yourself is necessary but you can do it in a Libran way. You can honor your psychology and desire for balance and fairness by making half your decisions in your own best interest and half your decisions in the best interest of the other person.
Now Aries might find this ridiculous but if you have a lot of Libra (or a packed 7th house) then you know damned well this would be a challenge and a half. And don’t expect to be able to achieve this right away. At first, 10% selfishness would be a feat.
Good luck.
Anyone else have ideas?

Maybe physically writing down a list of pros and cons? I find that actually writing or typing slows down my chaotic thought processes. Mentally I will go around and around looking at things from every angle and it drives me nuts. Manually listing seems to put a bit of brakes on and helps me look at things more logically than emotionally.
Otoh the list stuff is a typically Virgonian way of processing that may not appeal to you
I do have a Taurus Sun though so I never have a problem making up my mind! I use the listing to make myself actually look at if my decision should be reassessed since I tend to make snap from the gut decisions.
I just had an aha moment since I just posted on the anger subject. I think I need to do my list when I get pissed instead of just reacting. LOL
Close your eyes, spin around, point, and wherever your finger lands on the list of possibilities is what you do. Then spend the next week agonizing that you can’t do the other thing before actually doing the thing you “decided” to do. If people don’t like it, tell them it’s their fault.
… Works for me.
(joking of course… occasionally I can make a decision, having mars conjunct my ascendant and all.)
Don’t forget…sometimes you think you’re not making a decision (ie. ’should I quit or should I stay’) and you actually are, by choosing non-action.
i think about how _important_ a decision is to me. how attached i am to particular choices. if i don’t value it, i don’t care, and it can go any which way, but if it’s something essential, or moderately important, i’m going to lean on it more heavily.
which helps prevent letting otehrs walk all over you without being a bitch. but the trick is to be able to get a good sense of what you value and what you need. without that, it’s impossible. so that’s where i usually get hung up in decision making.
i have a couple aries/libra oppositions…
and, i guess my emphasis on personal values comes out of the fact that my libra is in the second house.
I have a stellium in Libra and I pretty much do what wyrdling suggests.
If it’s not that big a deal to me, I let others handle it how they will (what others want). If it’s moderately important to me, I’ll make a decision or give an opinion with wiggle room (compromise). And if it’s truly important I’ll spend hours, days, or weeks thinking about it and figure out what I would ideally like, if I’ll compromise and how, and what I will not accept (what I want).
It seems to work out for me at least 80% of the time and might be closer to 90% — I rarely feel railroaded or taken advantage of, nor do I feel overwhelmed by making extraneous decisions.
