“Don’t Call Me Buckwheat!”
Ask the collective
A few blogs ago, Tam called me Libra prompting me to play Tam this song of one of my favorite artists of all time, Garland Jeffreys, Don’t Call Me Buckwheat. If you don’t see the humor in this you are wound way to tight for this blog but anyway my son went back to school today. I have a couple more days of catching up and the I am going to get back on videos and I am going to start by defending Libra! For now, you can listen to Jeffreys and there is a question below…
What should they NOT call you? (and let’s hope you don’t describe your 7th (projected) house.. ::snicker::)

They should not call me staid…but that isn’t like my 7th house Cap, is it;-)
Yay! Defending Libra.
Something to be said for taking the time for deliberation …
I say, for me, never call me “done”.
I have a friend who laughingly calls me “faithless slut.” I think it’s funny but not so funny was when someone defamed my character to common acquaintances saying I had betrayed her. I think that actually was more about HER 7th house. but it stung more than I would have liked.
I DO NOT like to be called “ma’am.” I used to dislike being called “dude” but now I’m used to it.
in junior high a cheerleader standing next to my locker looked me up and down and said, “you are SO WEIRD.” I was highly complemented: aquarius DC.
@Satori: when I was about ten I told my mother she was weird, and she thanked me sincerely. I’ve used it as a compliment ever since!
Nobody better ever call me Doll Face.
It’s not so much what is said, as how it’s said.
So no, don’t be condescending, cause you’re (whoever it might be) not better than me. I’ve also been called weird, and I guess that’s good, because I actually have a little depth to me.
DON’T call me stupid. Don’t tell me “oh you’ll understand someday”. Don’t be a condescending jackass. DON’T call me cold. Mercury and Venus 7th house Pisces.
My dad called me timid and I didn’t forgive him for it for a long time- I have faced up to every fear and anxiety I’ve ever had, which isn’t timid in my book. Then I worked out he was just projecting. I don’t mind being condescended to as much anymore, because I think it makes the person doing the patronising look dumb, not me.
Libra in 7th, boo-yar!
Don’t call me scary. I am not scary. I have never yelled at anyone, or hit anyone. I’m just a smart ass. Seventh house in Sagittarius.
While we are all setting the record straight, I have nothing against Libra. Five of my friends are Libra.
For me it’s the s-word: squaw. A pejorative term for Native females, it was a favorite of the schoolyard racists that I had to endure growing up. It caused a lot of scraps in the playground that’s for sure.
I wicked liked that song, Elsa, thanks for sharing it. I’m going to watch it again.
Haha Charlotte - I don’t like it when people call me cold either. Just because I don’t like to make my feelings obvious doesn’t make me cold. Some things are private ya know!
Don’t call me scared or timid either. I’m not a scared person. It only *seems* that way to other people (and to myself I guess), lol. But I’m too proud to let fear push me around. It is not the boss of me! I do what I want.
Don’t call me “mami,” especially if you are my dental hygienist.
satori, I feel the same way. I acted too hard in order to be call weird and eccentric.
Don’t call me selfish or self-absorbed. Leo DC. Haha.
But being of African descent references to buckwheat most always come across as rascist to me.
Know what don’t call me stupid! Even if I am a bird brain at times.
mirasgurl, click the center of the video to go to Youtube - that’s why he wrote the song.
it was also the title of his album to broke him out. PASSION. It’s a masterwork.
