Open Question: “Are You A Plutonian Character?”

August 4th, 2008 @ 10:44 am by Elsa

Ask the collective

pluto symbol maureen asks on Rotten Things Happen:

“Elsa, would you say you are a Plutonian character?”

maureen, yes. I have a packed 8th house, but I am also very Saturnian, very Mercurial and have a pretty strong Jupiter streak as well.

Er.. my Mars is notorious and I even manage to be pretty strongly Neptunian.

If there is something I am light on, I’d say it’s Uranus but even that is questionable because I shock people on a daily basis.

I would also think I am light on Venus, however I have Libra and planets in the 7th so that would a be a lie.

Hmm..

::wanders off confused::

What planetary energy do you represent most prominently?

Venus, Uranus, Moon, Neptune, Mercury in that order I think. I have Mars rising and some Scorpio but nonetheless don’t feel very Mars or Pluto. Light on Saturn and Jupiter.

It is quite a confusing question. There isn’t a clear energy in my chart neither. Well, theoretically it would Mars because I have a lot of Aries and Scorpio, but I also have Jupiter. And both Moon and Mercury are in the angles so they are very important.
Damn, I feel you Elsa…

I have been reading up on Pluto, but I guess I don’t understand how you tell if you are a Plutonian type, or any other…

Snapdragon - lots of Scorpio, lots of planets in the 8th (Scorpio;s house) or lots of planets in aspect to Pluto..

Oh thanks, Elsa - so I guess a person would use those same parameters to tell if you were one of the other types..

My rising sign is Leo, with Sun in Scorpio conjunct Mercury straddling the IC. My Moon is conjunct Pluto in the 2nd and by Age Point (Huber method), Pluto was the first planet I came conjunct at about age 8. Right now transiting Pluto is square my Moon.

So, yeah, I have some Pluto issues. And I like ‘em!

For me, I really feel that Neptune in Pisces rising (with Venus in the Ac). Mutable nodes 6 of 12 houses ruled by dual signs 1, 4, 7, 10, 3, and 9 ruled by mutable signs (interceptions). Countless times I have lived in two places at once, I am so often in transiton (like now, to get a lease on the new place in Prescott, AZ, I had to pay August rent, but also payed it here in FL to finish out this lease. I can be vague, duciplicitous, and all the other bad sides of Neptune/Venus, but I am also very spiritual.

I do have enough fixed energy to know that I won’t let a bunch of cardinal people bossing me around, but even the astrologer in Sedona looked at my hand and said “You are not anything like the usual Taurus” and he is right. Neptune prevails.

I like this question, I think it’s important to know about oneself.

Have you told your Mom yet, Loonsounds?

I have a whole other can of worms to open up…

Anyone else on this site also religious? I was just wondering how others balance the two. For instance, Loonsounds just talked about having her palm read. I think traditionally religion would be totally against astrology, tarot, palm reading, and all the rest. (yes I know people in the bible had dreams interpreted and lots of other stuff done)

So what do you all think? If you believe in this stuff, does that make you “not a Christian”, does anyone have difficulties (can’t find the word) balancing (?) the two?

Snap - the soldier is a devout Catholic, a 4th degree Knights of Columbus and no problems with astrology.

Snap - I am religious as well, and no problems with astrology, either.

To answer Elsa’s original question, I don’t know if I’m Plutonian, but I did get voted “most likely to start a cult” in college.

Best wishes,
Nina

Loonsounds
Loonsounds

Ah, Snap, good question. Here’s the answer.

I am not remotely religious and I am pretty much opposed to everything that traditional religion stands for, such as preacher types who make it their personal business to convert others to their own belief systems, and seek to condemn others who do not share their belief system, and then aim to get a bunch of money out of those they have converted. Etc.

I am spiritual, not religious. Heres a little saying I have heard and I like, “Religion is for people who are afraid of going to hell, spirituality is for those who have already been there.”

As far as ‘not a christian’ well, the fact is, I am actually not a ‘Christian’ even though I was raised and confirmed in the Episcopal church, we didn’t even use the word christian in the Episcopal church although that is the basis.

In my early teens I realized that I was a Zen Buddhist, but then after having many spiritual dreams and visions and experiences in the year 2000 and beyond, I am converted to Hindu.

Be that as it may for me and Christianity (I am not, although I do believe that Christ did exist as one among many spiritual persons), Linda Johnson, a Vedic astrologer, has written several great articles about astrology in the Christian bible. and it is in there. One of them was in Mountain Astrologer, maybe more than one, and other authors have written on this topic as well.

gemini - duality.

One could argue I have way more venus going on, but, even then, most of my libra/taurus isn’t straightward, and it’s mixed with my scorpio and mars and pluto… so, yeah, duality.

Funny, Loonsounds - I would say that my mom and I have a better relationship than we ever had. Course that probably couldn’t have anything to do with the fact that we live a long ways away from each other, and we only talk once or twice a month…sometimes.

We are all both the sum of our parts & the parts themselves ;)

If I had to narrow it down, I’d say my planets involved in conjunctions have the strongest energy - Moon/Pluto; Mars/Venus; Mars/Saturn (in that order) :)

dolce

I’ve got Pluto in an exact square to my sun/mercury. And Uranus trine sun/mercury. Meanwhile, there’s Neptune opposite Venus. Neptune was a big thing until recently, when I started using Uranus constantly. And Pluto seems to be a subtle underlying, slow burning presence that never goes away!

oops. pushed the wrong button.

primiarly mutable, strong mercury energy with 6 planets merc-ruled. i also have some pluto in the mix, and therefore can find my way around in the dark.

i am NINJA! :)

snap, i imagine most here would probably make the distintinction between spirituality and organized religion. you can have one, the other, both or neither. the way i was raised, what i do now would be consisdered on par with inviting demons directly into my home. seriously. but i addressed those issues many years ago and am totally comfortable with my non-traditional belief system.

Well, my chart is ruled by Jupiter but I have Pluto and Uranus tightly conjunct (2 mins separation) in the ninth, near MC, and they are both square my Sun in the seventh. So I am very Plutonian, but it always manifests in surprising ways at work. Like how on earth did I get into a power struggle with that guy when I’ve been going out of my way to be nice to him? Answer.. nice is threatening if you have a Pluto - Sun square.. :)

I thought Elsa was a great sport when I called her a Libra! It’s rare when a double Gemini with Mercury in Gemini finds someone that will play along without drawing their assholes up to their armpits.

Sonia, I also have “my chart is ruled by Jupiter but I have Pluto and Uranus tightly conjunct (2 mins separation) in the ninth, near MC”.
From there, Pluto is square Merc (black/white thinking, anybody), trine mars and venus, opposite sat/chiron, square jupiter and sextile neptune.Only the sun gets away.
Power struggles? You bet.
No wonder my friends say I´m BAD.(Can´t reproduce what my enemies say. Of course, there´s no in between category)

Hey Bluemarine, that’s uncanny! I have Sag ascendant, with Sun in Gemini squaring that awsome Pluto/Uranus conjunction. You were born just six months before or after me I reckon.

Power struggles? Don’t ask. I solve it by trying to take ego out of the equation. Doesn’t work all the time. Everyone thinks I am a wuss because I don’t go waving my ego all over the place. They have nooooo idea.. :)

I don’t have any eighth house planets and only Neptune in Scorpio, but my natal Pluto aspects more planets than any other planet in my chart. My natal Pluto is in the fourth house in Virgo conjunct Uranus (not conjunct the IC) opposing Saturn and Chiron in the tenth house in Pisces, squaring Jupiter in the twelfth in Gemini and squaring the Moon in the sixth in Sagittarius. It also sextiles the Sun in the second house in Cancer and Neptune in the sixth in Scorpio and semi-sextiles (minor aspect) Mercury and Venus in Leo in the third house. Recently, I found that my natal Sun at 17 degrees 51 minutes Cancer exactly conjuncts Pluto’s discovery point, which is at 17 degrees 46 minutes Cancer. Do these aspects make me Plutonian?

Elsa can answer your Pluto question I just had a comment and a question.

You have that same grand cross of mutables that a lot of us are dealing with, and I am wondering if they are in the late degrees, 26-30 degrees?

Sorry about so many words; I’m much more a verbal person than a visual one. The grand mutable cross in my chart is not in the late degrees but in the middle ones, ranging from 10-18 degrees in each sign.

Elsa, is there an easier way for you to determine if I am a Plutonian person? I would really love to know, and you seem to be the person to ask.

74.
Loonsounds
Loonsounds

Oh yes she is! By the way, Forrest was the other name I was trying to think of associated with astrologers with special expertise in Pluto.

Raven, I am most intrigued by the self- selection of the name Raven. The name in itself suggests a Pluto type person, to me anyway! It is interesting how we go about selecting our names we will be called by, or being given them in spiritual sannyas or however. I was given the spiritual name Jyoti 4 years before I became obsessed with Vedic astrology and I had no idea that the name was so closely linked in a field called Jyotish!

But Raven, that does sound so Pluto to me. I do believe your Pluto is prominent by placement in the 4th house as that is one of the angular houses and all planets placed in an angle will manifest more noticeably and more powerfully…

I am not familiar with “pluto discovery point”

Is scorpio ruling your 7th house? Any planets there? Cancer moon not plutonian merely by def., likewise moon in sag. Do you like the idea of being plutonian? Then maybe you are, I am not sure how that works.

75.
Elsa
Elsa

Raven, no need to apologize, it is my lack. If someone mails me a chart, I don’t even try to look at it. I re-enter the data in my own software because it’s easier on my eye.

As to your question, ‘Am I a Plutonian?” I am going to address it in a different blog so thanks for asking.

76.
Raven
Raven

Elsa, thanks for the column! On one hand, I can’t believe a question of mine inspired a whole column, but on the other, I shouldn’t be surprised because I always seem to have some type of intense effect on people with whom I communicate.

I actually did not originally choose the name Raven. Yes, I am aware of Edgar Allan Poe’s poem “The Raven” and its mention of “the night’s Plutonian shore.” Raven was actually a nickname given to me on an anonymous online forum several years ago by people who were very hostile to me. I think they were implying that I rave, as in “rant and rave.” I found it amusing and took it up as an online nickname. Because I am well known in certain circles, I have to be careful to conceal my identity.

I do feel Plutonian because I am very intense and deep. I seem to feel things ten times as strongly as other people I know. When those feelings are negative, like anger, they scare me. It’s been this way since I was about four. I do become obsessive about hobbies, interests, etc. that I feel strongly about and one of those obsessions is power and a need to be loved by the masses of people. Also, I have long been drawn to the myth of Demeter and Persephone, in which Persephone is abducted by Pluto, lord of the underworld.

It is always good to get feedback from others, and that is why I asked this question to begin with.
