When Pluto Was on the Scorpio Sagittarius Cusp
Astrology in real life
Deirdre writes:
When I got to Germany, Pluto was at 29 degrees of Scorpio. The next month, Pluto went into Sagittarius, and that’s when I started an intensive German class because I didn’t speak one word besides Gesundheit.
We were an intense class, in it for power, love and money. That’s why the morning before the first day of class I felt like I would throw up. Both Pluto and Venus were teetering at 29 Scorpio that day and our class bonded like there was no tomorrow. If there was a cliff, we would fall off together. Saturn was exact on my Mercury in Pisces and I was serious.
During the first hour of class, with the highest concentration possible, I learned how to say, “My name is Deirdre. I want a cup of coffee.” During the break, Lu Yen from China, Tinna from Iceland, Dora from Portugal, Paula from Columbia and I went to the cafe across the way, the cafe that is sick of people practicing German. I stood at the counter with stage fright and said, “I want a cup of coffee” — and I got it. I went back to class feeling like Donald Trump.
Do you ever feel like a real dork speaking a second language?

yeah, when i use my spanish i feel like a four year old again….
I try not to take myself too seriously…make it more of a fun experience.
I don’t try anymore. my dad sometimes embarrasses me when he speaks spanish. his accent is HORRIBLE. but what really embarrasses me is that he speaks spanish to anyone that is brown, which seems, I don’t know, not very colorblind to me. but all his friends are hispanic so I guess not everyone minds.
Yes, and not only that I personally believe that fear of looking stupid prevents more people from learning.
I learned French at school, yet I’ve struggled so much to speak the language when visiting France or Quebec.
It’s like trying to remember a fading dream: you think: I should know this and it’s disappointing when you don’t.
Pluto at 29 degrees Scorpio…I was 17 and packed up my bags and my $70 and moved to the city I’m currently leaving in. I made my decision and 3 days I was gone.
ha ha…now there’s a slip. LIVING in.
kash- you might like BC so much that you do leave the city your curently leaving in
Are you leaving in sin?
ha ha! i’m living in sin, too!! lol
oh spinner I live in BC, I just travel a lot and have had extended stays in other places (Sag ASC, Pluto/NN in 9th House).
I don’t anticipate moving until my SO finishes his yoga therapist training, but I do want to be Island bound (one of them, or even V.I. would be good) in the future.
Yes, I’m gun ho trying to learn Spanish completely and fluently. My mom speaks spanish, as does the extended family on my mom’s side. My dad is a white man in a brown man’s body, hehe….he never learned spanish and never really cared to. Hence, it wasn’t spoken much in my house. I plan on minoring in Spanish, just so can push myself to learn, no other reason what-so-ever. Since I didn’t grow up speaking it fluently, I am very self conscious about speaking it. Especially because there is an expectation there, I look like I should know it.
When I lived in Germany when I was a kid, I was very comfortable speaking German (I forgot almost all of it by now :()….I guess when you’re a kid, you don’t care how you sound or what others think….you’re just so eager to learn.
My N. Node and Mars are in the 9th, and I am itching to travel so bad.
kashmiri- oh I thought you were from TO. I am here on VI with family on other islands.
PS I am a complete dork with other languages! Like Kashmiri, I should be able to do better with French. When we travelled to Mexico we had fun trying to learn spanish. We would make our grocery lists in Spanish and try and speak with locals. My daughter and I went to a hair salon in Playa de Carmen. Only the manager spoke a very little english. The stylists did not speak any english. Both of us were very happy with the results. Perhaps hair speak is one of those universal languages.
hm.. I’ve never been to TO but I’d like to, one day
shell it’s been my experience that the desire to travel will merely grow. I have a friend who also loves traveling but as a single parent who’s spent the last decade in University (she’s now a teacher! WOOOOT!) she hasn’t been able to.
(I remember reading Simone de Beauvoir’s autobiography–at that point I hadn’t been anywhere in a very long time and felt like I’d never go anywhere again.
I read that she (who also loved to travel) hadn’t been able to leave France for 15 years, due to the Occupation during WWII and then subsequent hardships…it was very sombering).
@Spinner: I’m jealous! Learning Francais at the moment.. will be needing it for international law when I am working for the U of N in France!
Jup/NN Rising, Saturn (Chart Ruler) in Sag/9th and conjunct the MH…
I ask people who don’t believe in Astrology to look at my chart and tell me that is not me
Ahhh… Kashmiri, not Spinner (love you, too, though!! Spanish is next :))
Kashmiri– ahh…I can totally relate to your friend! I spend a lot of time as a “single mother” by default (my husband travels A LOT) and of course I have to stay home and be the rock for my two little ones. I’m also going to school now to be an elementary school teacher. I’m looking forward to those summer breaks, as I have VOWED to my kids that we are going to see the world during those times! It’s not even a question of “if”, I HAVE To travel, or I will just die!! I’m just praying that God won’t take me before I get those summer breaks. Then I’ll be on the other side like “coulda, shoulda, woulda…”
my friend is an elementary school teacher as well…she’s a Sag ASC like me and is very much looking forward to her summer breaks!
I speak a foreign language (French) every day at work. I speak fluently. I also work with several French people so I never consider -either them trying to communicate in English, or me trying to communicate in French - as a foolish act. I have also travelled a bit in Europe and have always found that the foreigner is much better received if they make an attempt at communicating in the area’s language. When you’ve lived in a foreign country and had to communicate to survive, you don’t have energy to feel foolish.
Aww…
I just started an article today about how I stumbled through Italian lessons and got to Italy and could barely put three words together (It was a *completely* different experience from sitting in my kitchen with a textbook and my tutor).
