What Technology Would You Like To See In The Future?
Ask the collective
This is a good topic for Mercury in aspect to Uranus. The other night the soldier was searching YouTube for a specific Geico commercial - He loves that gecko. There are a zillion commercials and he couldn’t find it.
“Be nice if you could just think of the thing… imagine it and it would come up. It will happen eventually,” I said. “For now, we have to suffer.”
What technology would you like to see come into being?

I would like to see medical technology leap forward for burn patient treatment. In general, there is so much in the various neural sciences I would like to see leap forward.
The Soldier’s thought is horrifying! Can you IMAGINE what would pop up on a computer screen equipped with that “feature”? Of course, it’d work better than the ‘Net Nanny for the kids… heh, heh, heh…
I’m with Des. But in addition I would want to block out all people, who get on my nerves for sakes!!
We have the technology, recently a primate with an implant was able to move a robotic arm by thinking.
It’s not strictly technology, but: A self-cleaning, solar powered house. Solar powered cars everywhere. All organic food and holistic health care. Non-hormonal & non pleasure reducing birth control. Intuitive, voice command computer personal assistants that can research and process the details of life.
Non-hangover alcohol and some kind of really awesome swimming pools/parks that I can’t even dream up!
PixieDust– thought you said swimming pool sharks. I vote for swimming pool sharks. and pretty bras that fit well in larger sizes. also an aside about the birth control thing– I really like my paragard iud, no hormones.
I need something to keep the cat from shredding furniture.
A solar powered, self-cleaning house? Would it do dishes, laundry, and clean the floors?
Non-biting, swimming pool sharks that keep the swimmers alert! HA! ![]()
Could they bring you a drink every once and awhile?
oh well, okay… I was thinking Dr. Evil style with lasers affixed to the tops of their heads, but I’m sure you’re right. sigh.
Well, maybe it would suck up the dust in the air, and there would be a robot or something that cleans the floors, and some automatic system for cleaning the bathroom fixtures.
Or maybe like a Rosie from the Jestons!!
They could bring drinks, yes, and perhaps some finger foods since swimming makes you tired; but some of them would have evil laser head thingies. So you wouldn’t know what you were getting when they swam up to you. Mwwahhh…
I have said for years that when they have some kinda chip they can implant right into your body-
that would facilitate every kind of immediate untethered communication- be it internet, telephone, television and radio reception, so that i could receive all types of communication and communicate with everything in return instantly — I will be the first one to sign up.
I don’t care where they have to locate it on my body - it would be so worth it to me to have instant communication.
Surprise - I’m a Gemini.
It is challenging to add anything to this that does not sound ridiculous or perverse. Would these sharks have eyelids so they could wink at you or give you some kind of hint depending on the magnitude of the surprize they had prepared for you, or would you just get a zinger once and awhile and not know what was coming?
Transporters like on Star Trek. Though I suppose that would put a damper on the OTR trucking industry.
Some kind of nanotechnology thingies that would clean underneath the ‘fridge and stove.
Cheap, affordable, reliable transportation that runs on random junk from landfills … maybe paper or better yet, plastic (the whole resin-code spectrum). And that converts the junk into clean energy so that oil and gas and issues in the Middle East over oil go the way of aerosol cans.
This would help degrade items that may not bio-degrade on their own, shrink landfills (which would become valuable real estate), encourage recycling, may reduce pollution from vehicle emissions, and hopefully resolve all if this hullabaloo over oil.
For awhile I was in favor of the Star Trek teleportation - then I realized that this would have to be seriously thought through - because areas that we protect behind locked doors, fences, and other boundaries may suddenly become vulnerable.
Althera- There is some good news about our dependency on middle east oil. There has been a massive discovery off the coast of Brazil that will begin producing about two million barrels a day in two years. In five years the US could likely not need to import oil from the middle east!
Of course this is also a bad news story because it will mean that we will continue to foster our dependcy on oil when there are so many ways to produce energy that are better for the planet.
Still I am hopeful that this news will usher in positive changes in the geopolitical arena.
We definitely need to figure out ways to reduce waste and rethink our wasteful use of energy and water!
I’m all for transporters, located in public areas for easy access.
I’m also wishing for a ray gun to zap some sense into society (starting with corporation and government) to move to a sustainable economy based on ecologically-responsible alternative resources and action (particularly the ones that are practically inexhaustable, like solar and wind) rather than an economy that relies so heavily on fossil fuels which are restricted by supply and so heavily dependent on an insatiable desire for wealth (my friendly little euphemism for “greed”).
Excuse me, I need to go outside a hug a tree. ![]()
I second PixieDust on that non-hormonal & non pleasure reducing birth control, and also the hangover free alcohol. There is a really cool water park here in TX called “Schlitterbahn”, don’t know if that’s what you had in mind?? Other than anything helpful to the preservation of earth and humans…I’m tired of technology, I’d rather go back in time pre-technology.
Not to highjack the topic, butI think I am actually going to embark on a waterpark visiting adventure over the next few years. Thanks for the info, shell.
And I’ll be first in line at the one that has solar-powered sharks that bring me non-hangover inducing alcohol and finger foods!! Woo Hoo!!
Noooo, computers in the head. That is scary as all get out.
I’ve always wanted to see Smell-o-Vision though. Food Network would increase its ratings by like, a zillion.
small, protable, sturdy, efficient solar energy generators. or maybe something fueled by the earth’s magnetic field or honest to goodness fusion power.
white noise generators so i can have a private conversation in a coffeeshop.
safe/cheap/healthy extraterrestrial habitat systems. in orbit or on mars or something…
