Open Question: The Guy/Gal Says, “No date while Mercury is retrograde…”

Ask the collective

planets.jpgThis morning a gal asked if a relationship was doomed if the first date took place during a Mercury retrograde. I think we all agreed this was not the case. She also said she had not mentioned astrology this man and I got to thinking, what if she had?

If you met someone and they told you they did not want to go out with you until the planet Mercury was direct, how would you respond? Because I am a life-long astrologer and if someone told me that, I would tell them to go jump in a lake!

Seriously, I would end the budding relationship right then and there because who wants a man who is going to let a little planet get in their way.

So what about you? Someone says, “No date - Mercury is retrograde.”

Your response is…

my response? “Uhhhhh….ok.” I’m sure I’d laugh. And I’d think they were a bit odd, and maybe too highstrung for me… :)

yeah, I would hit EJECT for sure. Think this guy is going to want to have sex on your period? ::smirks:: Guess not!

That would be like telling someone “I’m not going to talk to you because Mercury is retrograde on your chart” or “I’m not going to date you because your Venus is square to Saturn, or because your Neptune is square to my Moon” (fortunately they never saw my chart until it was too late :)
Mercury retrograde is good for talking about pending questions, understanding, and making things clear. Because no relationship is our first one, right? And a relationship that starts under Mercury retrograde may be ideal for this kind of process, so I’d take the chance and tell later.

“So next month, then? Or will I still be too fat then?”

    *snicker*

It just sounds like such a copout.

I love astrology and one of the first things I do is ferret out someone’s info so I can run a chart, but c’mon. I’d be like “Uh, ok. You’re supposed to be able to ‘work’ with whatever influences are there, so um…ok, I’ll take a raincheck and catch up with you when that spaceship you’re on returns from its lunar expedition….”
    Holy mackerel…. :)

I guess if I were interested in the person I would want to know why. Why is this an influence in your life? What makes it important? Have you dealt with problems with this influence before?

I guess I would ask a bunch of questions and try to understand where the other person was coming from. If it made sense to me I would wait for the date. If it seemed a bit untethered (for lack of a better term) I would skip.

I guess my bottom line is that on the face of it this person isn’t telling me that they’re doing drugs, isn’t telling me that they injure people, so I guess I would want to know more….

    But that is me.

I agree with mudlikesubstance…my mercury is in Capricorn trine Pluto in Virgo. I would tactfully dig deep to seek why…if the answers didn’t weigh up then eject and reject.

Yeah it would be a deal breaker for me too, no doubt.

Never noticed anything too bad about Mercury retrograde, but a retrograde cycle that does make me want to duck for cover is Venus.
I have some horror stories of starting dating during Venus retrograde. The last Venus retrograde cycle was particularly horrible. I suppose it did point out very, very clearly that the guy was clearly not someone I should be wasting my time on (truth and hidden things all came all of a sudden to the surface) – but surely there would be a more gentle, humane, pleasant way of coming to that conclusion than the train smash that occurred?
I have four planets in Libra (Sun, Pluto, Mercury and Uranus) and so maybe I am more susceptible to Venus retrograde than others – but seriously if I meet a guy next Venus retrograde cycle, no matter how gorgeous, lovely, kind, smart, sincere and funny he seems – I am bolting fast, fast away to the hills….
However, would that a really “dumb” thing to do? Would there be a way to “manage” Venus retrograde other than running or hiding?

It wouldn’t be an absolute deal breaker for me if I was really interested. I would however think he was pretty silly ’cause 1) I’m sure going to keep on dating through Merc rx and if it isn’t him 2) who says I’ll still be interested/won’t have found someone else in 3 weeks?

People have their quirks and I’d let it ride til it did get to some deal breaker for me. There are bigger problems.

  12. Skye says on 5/28/08 at 7:23 am:

Wow. I have no idea. I guess it would depend on the guy, his reasons and how much I liked him.
I think I’d have to wait til it actually happens to me to know because I cant for the life of me hypothecially guess what I do when faced with the reality of this odd dilemma

  13. Hans says on 5/28/08 at 9:16 am:

That would be a bit weird… but then again, I’m attracted to weird, so I’d probably wait. :-) At least it’s a more original reason to turn down a date than “let’s just be friends” or whatever. :D

  14. june says on 5/28/08 at 12:26 pm:

my response might look something like “lol! are you fucking serious?” and proceeding to tell him in more complex words that he’s a sheep.

then again, if he was that dumb, i could tell him i’m an astrologer and that because i have mercury retrograde and it’s in the sign it rules, it doesn’t affect me and everything is going to go swimmingly. then i’ll stand him up as punishment for being gullible on both accounts.

    …maybe.

  15. Jennifer says on 5/28/08 at 1:53 pm:

I would tell him that I have MR natally and the bad things about MR don’t happen to me, so nyah. :P

  16. Loonsounds says on 5/29/08 at 12:11 pm:

I would go on the date if I liked the person and wanted to date them.
