The Elements In Astrology: A Basic Explanation Of How And Why People Fail To Connect
Astrology in real life
I spoke with pal and astrologer, Claire-France Perez last night. She always leaves me feeling good and usually manages to shock me as well by offering her perspective on my life which always seems inordinately advanced to me.
Now cf is an intellectual, just look at her website. But atypical of the type she has a deep appreciation for what I am and what I do which is anything but intellectual. You could compare it to a light-skinned woman appreciating the beauty or a dark-skinned woman and vice versa. In real life this is rare. You’ve got to stretch to do it.
In astrology terms cf would be an airy type with the ability to connect with an earthy type, or in the model she was using last night, she is a thinking type while I am most value sensation.
She suggested I look at a picture of the elements to note the large separation between these two elements to appreciate the difficulty in connecting and while our conversation covered a lot more material I hope to transcribe, this is enough to have something to think about because here is the real life application that will enhance your life:
Is there someone out there you just can’t connect with to save your life and could this explain it? For example I am all over this blog talking about primal this and that. Lizard brain, bay-bee! This is where I live.
So what happens when and intellectual type comes along and gets a load of me? And what happens when I get a load of them? They don’t know what the hell I am talking about and vice versa and I will give you an example:
Some years ago I went to a meeting of a local astrology group. Sitting in the room, I was aware of everything. All my sense were heightened… there was the Scorpio against the wall in the back of the room and all that. There was the gal with the strange clothing and the man who had to be a Cancer surrounded by 3 mother-figure types.
So then there is a break and some guy comes up to me and asked me what kind as astrology I studied. What? I didn’t know what the hell he was talking about.
“Er… what do you mean? I study astrology astrology,” I said as if he were an alien on a drug.
“No, I mean do you study, Uranian, Hellenistic, horary…
I looked at him completely baffled thinking, “Dude, I just want to get laid.”
What type person are you and what type do you have the most trouble connecting with?

Cancer and Pisces. I don’t say Water signs in general. I have a lot of Scorpios in my life, and I have a deep respect, understanding, and love for them. The other two Water signs, however, are alien territory.
I guess that female Cancer/Pisces Suns/Moons think I’m too overbearing and egotistical, and the males tend to run the other way. I’ve never dated a Cancer Sun, and the one Pisces I briefly dated drove me nuts, because he was everywhere and nowhere at the same time. Very confuzzling to my energies.
I’m a Fire Sun with Fire rising, and an Air moon. Most of my close female friends were Air signs.
If I can’t get along with Cancer or Pisces, someone else will. I might not need them, but the universe does…it needs ALL energies to work.
I seem to be able to make a connection with anyone
- meaning THEY will get me — they will feel that i’m completely in sync w/them. Most people either LOVE or HATE me- there is no middle ground with me.
But finding that person who ’scratches my itch’ - who makes that connection with me is so rare.
They best be real quick and be able to speak to me in a shorthand that uses a word here and there that will give me a colorful picture or just a vibe. Engineers need not apply for this job as my bff.
I have a ton of capricorn and it makes me collect serious data b/4 i make a decision while all the time I know I’ll never use it. Always in the final analysis i know its’ just grist for the mill cause when the spirit moves me I’m just gonna jump regardless of what the facts tell me. I’ll always go with my intuition.
Now cf is an intellectual
Yeah she is!
What type person are you and what type do you have the most trouble connecting with?
Probably air types, not because I can’t be airy (I can be airy, really badly) and not because I’m not balanced (because I have Libra and …) but because I’m just too damn rude.
“I understand your point, and I understand why you think it’s really important, I just don’t care.”

[’I too, am an intellesmectual.’]
I can connect with anyone.
Neptune in the 11th, Sextile Pluto in the 8th & Square Jupiter in the 8th. I just have to be careful that they aren’t trying to rip me off and/or I am inappropriately generous. (Moon sq Jupiter.)
The wide-range of types of friends and acquaintances I’ve had (not rebuilt too much yet since Pluto went through there) is bizarre. From homeless people to elected officials etc etc.
I have a hard time connecting to hard fire people. Airs, I can appreciate, even if I get bored if i have to *think* about things for too long. But Fires…they’re so…MUCH. All the time. I get exhausted just talking to them. Some have been totally heartless when it comes to other people’s problems and sometimes, they just get so riled up over everything, I feel like cold-compressing their entire body until they calm down.
I have a hard time connecting with people who want to just skim the surface of things. Well, when I worked in sales I was able to do it well enough, but I think the surface is boring. Sometimes people act like they want to have a deep conversation about something but they end up talking about their subject in a very trivial way. Like politics for example. When the political season was just starting up I was loathe to talk to extended family about it because it seemed like everyone was just repeating the opinions they heard on the radio or television. I told them I was voting for candidate A for example and all anyone could say to me was “Well, he doesn’t have a chance.” Yet zero voting had taken place.
I would consider myself Earth/Fire. I had to think hard about it. I have more Fire, but my Moon and Sun are Earth signs, and I consider that quite important.
I’m really glad you posted this today. I had to laugh at Lexie’s comment: I’ve intuitively felt a cold-compress hiding behind a back or two…LOL.
I’m much more subdued now that I’m out of my 20s. I had more energy than I knew what to do with when I was younger, and Fire signs tend to be naive in assuming everyone is into BEING! REALLY! RILED! UP! ALL! THE! TIME!
Uh, no.
Not to sound totally pompous, but I consider myself emotionally sophisticated ::cough cough:: so the only people I can’t really connect to are idiots who want to assume things about other people and project their leaky baggage all over the place.
I guess i feel like people get kind of protective of their friends/ relationships. As it should be! I’ve got alot of fire(sag) and air in my chart, but then i also have a water sun and earth moon, so i’m pretty well gonna like everyone. At least while that fire is burning. If you,ve got somthing to do lets do it, somthing to say, well say it. Most people say that water puts out fires fun, but this isn’t always the case. lol i had to laugh at the picture of cancer man surrounded by three mother types…
I think it depends on what kind of place I am in. I can connect with anyone in some situations, it depends if I am expanding or contracting…. Water dominates my chart, with (sun, moon, mercury, Venus, and mars in Scorpio)(Jupiter in Pisces)(Saturn in Cancer) I have a little air with Aquarius Acendant and Pluto and Uranus in Libra/Air) and Neptune in Sagittarius, fire) No earth…. Which is interesting to me. I think I am most at home around Virgos, I love virgos and know more of them than any other sign. I find them soothing… If I were to make sweeping generalizations about my experiences with different signs I would say Leo, and Aries have the greatest potential to rub me the wrong way, but I have experienced this with all kinds of people… And I know beautiful and amazing sun sighn Leo’s and Aries…..
I have always felt like I related more to feminine energy, and I feel like I understand women and connect with them much more easily than I do men. I don’t get masculine male energy at all on a personal level, and I am a man. Is it something in the chart, or the feminist/pacifist programing I received from my parents. My mom(also a scorpio) directed a battered womens shelter for 25 years, so that might have something to do with my disconnect from male energy……,
It occurred to me yesterday that I probably express my male energy uncousinly, with feminine energy dominating my conscious interactions and choices…
copperweaver, i like that. i’m thinking a lot about my expressions (conscious or no) of male/female a lot these days. it’s good to hear about other people’s experiences with that!
THEY! REALLY! DO!, huh, Kashmiri? ^_^ Oh, those fire signs (laying in bed next to one right now, hehe).
I am lucky. My chart is almost evenly split between the 4 elements. 2 earth, 4 fire, 3 water, and 2 air. But the way they are split, the 2’s are in stronger elements like my sun and moon. I can get along with nearly anyone… when I want to.
i have the most difficulty getting along with rigid or narrowminded people.
what i am seems to be constantly in flux. apparently my chart is heavily fire and air, but is ruled (and it’s ruler is in) earth and my sun’s ruler is in water so… *shrug*
lol…I too have difficulty with rigid or narrow-minded people. But what I’m cautious of are people who seem (to me) ‘irrational’, moody, touchy, impulsive types. They make me nervous since I never know how they will respond. But as much as this emotion-inspired behavior irritates me, I guess part of me admires it in a way too. They value their feelings enough to take them seriously, to act on them as they’re experiencing them - not wait till they’ve been censored and made appropriate for consumption. They have so much emotional freedom!
I’m heavily fire and air also, my chart ruled by mercury, but mostly saturn/capricorn dominated w/Capricorn moon.
I’m a Triple Fire with a considerable Water section (lol) so both Earth and Air are a bit foreign to me.
Let’s say I don’t want to spend an afternoon discussing theories (or talking for that matter) but I’m also not interested in spending the afternoon eating.
I’m so mean ;P
I can get along with all the elements, but I have a hard time dealing with mutable types. My chart is heavily Cardinal, and somewhat fixed, so I have a hard time understanding why they can’t just make up their minds and commit to something, sometime. Consistency, people!
I think I’m annoyed at people who want to have “deep conversations” all the time, who disdain acquaintance relationships and expect deep friendships to fall from the sky. I live next to New York, I know how hard they are going to have to work to have friends. Maybe I’m annoyed at the usual uppity shit Water/Earth types and Aquarians complain about: a lack of depth or political awareness, etc. I can’t describe it though I know what I mean.
Dina….I agree that centering relationships around having “deep conversations” can be annoying and not t mention exhausting. However, I am a virgo, and i enjoy deep conversations and am somewhat uncomfortable with “small talk”. As far as political awareness and all the “usual uppity shit” that some complain about, I feel that for some, there are truths in reality that are too daunting not to notice… like that 90% of Americans are glued to their propaganda ntelevision completely Blinded from the rest of the world… these things cant be avoided, they must be recognized! Now , if you are not keen on talking about “deep” ideas, than by all means, don’t trouble yourself over those who do. No conversation is wasted, deep or shallow.. the word was given to us to collectively discover Truth.
