alcohol.jpgThis is my Saturn in Virgo tip:

If your cell phone gets wet… a little wet or even if it goes into the toilet or get washed in the washing machine, chances are it can be brought back to life. Just take the back off the phone, remove the SIM card and dip the whole thing in alcohol (I used 70% Isopropyl Alcohol not bourbon) and let it dry overnight. I left mine to dry a couple days but sure enough, I put the battery and the SIM card back in and it fired right up good as new.

Do you have a Saturn in Virgo tip for the frugal?

If you live in a climate where the temperature fluctuates, put gas in your car when the temp is colder, like in the morning. Gas is less expansive then & you’ll get more.

Guitar picks also make a crazy flame when lit. :D

Hubby got laid off today so this is timely. :/

1. Add sago to stews. Bulks them up considerably.

I did that not long ago! But I used sanitizer wipes, not alcohol. Worked like a charm! :-D

Mildy stale bagels (and croissants) can be revived by twenty - thirty seconds in the microwave.

If you are tired of a cardigan or a jacket, but it’s still in good condition try replacing the buttons . . you can usually grab buttons at the dollar store and if you hate sewing yourself, tailors will sometimes do it for cheap (my place charges me $2 a button and less if I bring in my alterations at the same time {I’m short! so all my pants also need to be short!})

Actually, most services are somewhat negotiable. I have a regular place for my alterations, and a regular place for my shoe repairs, and I find if I’m bringing in three + pairs of pants, or three + pairs of shoes, often they’ll cut me a deal.

If’n you’re single find a friend you can split things with. There’s like 50c difference between a half dozen and a full dozen eggs at my supermarket, and I have never inmy life used a full thing of celery. I go grocery shopping with my ex-roomates and we often split bread, vegetables, and eggs.

Oh! And wash all your businessy clothes inside out and dry on medium, it cuts down on wear and fraying.

Stale white bread - grate it into bread crumbs, mix in some grated parmesan or romano cheese, add some pepper. Then make a nice dish of spaghetti with olive oil, garlic and red pepper flakes. Sprinkle on the bread crumb mix and stick the dish of pasta under the broiler until the bread crumbs brown. So good.

Baking soda and/or white vinegar can clean anything.

I’m the Queen of Livin’ On The Cheap. I’ve got my favorites for sure so I’ll just give you the best of: Make your own coffee at home and take it in a thermos./ In the winter I’m the soup and stew Queen, I make big pots and freeze the remainder and have for dinner either soup/stew and small green salad & a whack of bread-this manages to keep winter weight off. I keep the bread in the fridge, it’s last forever./ Of course I’ve got the usual salad garden going in spring and fall (you can grow salad greens in a pot on a balcony or other small space. I grow the head lettuce as it’s super easy but have expanded to Chard, Cabbage and Kale./ I make my own tinted moisturizer: get a tube of make up 2 shades darker then your normal color, get a sunscreen lotion (high SPF) for the face you like, get a baby food jar and mix the make up and the sunscreen until you get the proper shade for your skin. It’s super cheap and you can adjust it to your own skin shade as it changes thru the year./ Make you own vitamin C skin cream by pulverizing Vitamin C (500 mg tabs) and then mix in with your favorite skin lotion. Keep it in the fridge/ No bath body wash: 2 parts Witch Hazel to 1 part 70% rubbing alcohol, drops of scented oil, put it in a squirt bottle and you can keep that sweaty feeling at bay, good for travelling, Great for instant hair wash touch up./ Butcher paper can be decorated for any occassion wrapping paper. Great el cheapo meal is brown rice, beans and salsa with some grated cheese- heat and eat. Biggest saver? Stay out of the mall, hit the high end re-sale consignment shops, yard sales and buy your food at ethnic food marts for staples.

Oh yeah some more I love: dried pine cones make good fire starters./ I got a sleeve off hubby sweat shirt and made a doggie sweat shirt after cutting holes for head and legs. (dog is 14 lbs.)/Let your clothing air dry when possible. Elastic & clothing lasts longer and less on your electric bill. I do throw big stuff like sheets in the dryer. Get some friends together for a clothing swap you get new wardrobe, no cash needed./I’ve gotten some cool shoes at Payless shoes and you can’t tell they are cheap and they’ve held up really well.
