A Invitation And Appeal To All… Support The Troops!

Outtakes and various other sundries

gus ewokIt’s the soldier’s birthday this week and his son is under fire at war in Iraq. Considering I am hearing straight from the source, I can tell you with certainty that that the spin the press is putting on the current situation is egregiously wrong and demoralizing to the soldiers fighting there.

The soldier wants to snap pictures of people of all kinds being themselves, doing the regular things they do in life holding signs with encouraging messages. If you want to pose in a bikini, (Togi) that is okay too but no nudity - He has a wife he loves!

We need pictures of all kinds. Dogs with signs, kids with signs, farmer pictures, hairdresser pictures, office worker pictures, you name it. Whatever you can think of as long as it is supportive.

The soldier’s son’s name is “Captain Gus”, his unit is nicknamed, “Tropic Lightning”. I will provide more names and or nicknames of people in his unit as they become available. These soldiers are over there for 15 months… they are tired and here is a chance you can send your thanks and express your creativity all at once.

gus-bowser.jpgI will be posting on the pictures on a different blog titled “Get On The Bus With CAPTAIN Gus“. This was his slogan when he ran for class president when he was in high school - feel free to use it in your picture.

Captain Gus got elected after running around the auditorium in a yellow cardboard “school bus” and bringing down the house dancing in Temptations style to Jimi Hendrix’s All Along The Watchtower so sense of humor and wacky style will definitely fly but mostly we are looking for is anything from anyone that will cheer these soldiers who are not “indiscriminately killing civilians” as some press has reported. ::rolls eyes::

pictured at top is one of my first attempts, my son’s drawing at the bottom just to give you an idea. Gus has a stellium in Libra and he’s a Capricorn rising so you know he is getting creamed with this T-square so come on y’all. Grab a marker and send me a pic (askelsa at gmail) or a link to a pic and let’s get something goin’! We need New York pictures, Iowa pictures, indoor pictures and outside pictures too.

Meanwhile the soldier will get picture on trucks, random people at truck stops and steel mills, waitresses, people who work at Subway… and even from whores (Lot Lizards Rooting 4 Gus!!) and please join in. I think it will be fun and I know it will be appreciated.

Thank you, Neith! First to donate, first to send a pic. :-)

Check out the page, it is shaping up!!

How FUN! What a wonderful idea! I will send a picture tonight.

    Hang in there, Captain Gus!!!!

Thanks Jessica!! The soldier’s son speaks Arabic and consequently he (Libra) is the diplomat. Seeing as he can communicate he gets to know these Iraqis who then get killed by the militia. It is an agony and nothing at all like what you see reported.

I couldn’t believe what I read in the news today up against his firsthand accounts. This is an educated man with scope and perspective writing to his (also highly educated) family and what they are printing is so inaccurate… well it just makes you swoon.

What they are doing and what they say they are doing is miles apart. Thanks everyone who can send a pic. He is going to be very surprised!! :-)

Alright, you said he has a wife that he loves and I LOVE that but come on, this is for the TROOPS! Just a little bikini shot. Come on Togi, match that. I have a stellium in Libra and Cancer/Mars rising so I’ve been getting creamed too– my heart goes out to Captain Gus! But I’ve got massive respect for those who are in the *real* line of fire. WOOOOOOO! This was fun. God bless those men and women.

    Jessica - HOTTTTTTTTTTTT

  7. Jessica says on 4/21/08 at 8:28 pm:

And based on what you’ve said about the soldier, I am not at all surprised that his son speaks Arabic and acts the diplomat. I just hope that he gets home alright.

    He’s also a black belt and a concert violinist…

You guys have entirely the WRONG impression of me. Now how did that happen? Snort. For all my sex talk I’m still a Virgo ya know.

If it was 10 years ago the bikini’s would have been flying out of drawers. I’ll see what I can do but I’m in northern Canada and it’s still pretty damn freezing where I live eh?

  10. Elsa says on 4/22/08 at 3:21 am:

Sorry Togi - that’s my fault! You are enticing as hell though!

  11. Elsa says on 4/22/08 at 4:04 am:

Okay, I need more pics! Pleeease!

The soldier will probably be armed with a camera by next week and he will take over but we will have to wait until he’s been out with the camera and back where he can download the pics before I will have a supply. I have no doubt he will his pictures will be amusing to one and all.

Parked on a farm he told me yesterday he has to go back into the sleeper of his truck because “a horse is looking at me”. He said if he has a camera he would have taken the horse’s pic - “This horse free to look in your Dad’s truck - Thank Capt Gus”. he will take everyone’s picture everywhere but I need help sustaining this between now and then so please, please, please take the time to snap a pic and thanks tremendously to those who have.

Can someone make on that says “Tropic Lightning”?
What about SGM Jefferson - “The Beast”??
    Thanks, thanks, thanks

I live in Columbus, next to Ft. Benning, and there is a deep and abiding bitterness from the local troops (many of whom I take classes with) regarding press coverage of what they’re doing over there. “Do you think they wanna take film of us building schools and roads? Hell no. But you hear and explosion, and they’re off running, hoping that some of us have died.”

Hell yeah I’ll take some pics. But, uh, gimme a couple of days. Finals. :)

Broken camera :( I just found out it is completely unfixable and so don’t know when I’ll get a new one. I miss it. Love to Gus and hopefully I’ll get a photo up in a month or two once my new job kicks in some tips.

  18. ewinbee says on 4/22/08 at 6:21 pm:

    Yay I’m picced!

  19. SaDiablo says on 4/23/08 at 3:55 am:

I carted my camera with me all day yesterday while the sun was up and didn’t find anything that caught my fancy. Then we go to dinner with some friends waaaay late (after 10 p.m.) and my man decides to fly his kite by sticking it out of the car window while he drove around the parking lot. Did I have my camera? Noooooooooo! And I even thought up what would’ve been the perfect caption, too. . ..
    Man, that’ll teach me. :D

Maybe I’ll have better luck today.

  20. Elsa says on 4/23/08 at 4:21 am:

    SaDiablo - Thanks! :-)

  21. Shannon says on 5/7/08 at 10:08 am:

I’m linking this all over the place too.

    Thanks, Shannon. :-)
