Ask the collective

question_mark1.jpgLast night I was talking to a pal about how at times I simply lose the plot of what I am doing, so here is todays question:

I love how interactive it has become. Love the little community of commenters and that I get to talk as much as I like. :)

Everyone knows I’m an Elsa fan right? I love your stories, love the way you weave astrology in so that people absorb it without realizing how much they are learning and most of all I love the way you reach out and engage us and make us think about how it all applies to us.

  2. Alma says on 3/18/08 at 6:18 am:

Elsa, I like your stories and your honesty. I like your advice.
I like when you examine certain astrological aspects and ask for feedback from the community. You ask very thought provoking questions. The community that has gathered here is something special and positive. Usually astrology “forums” have at least one Tedious Bore who holds forth and starts arguments. Not here. And our responses are more than mere listings of planetary positions and aspects in our charts. I can honestly say that reading your blog has changed the way I think and the way I approach relationships.

How shall I list the ways!
    I like:

    1. You
    2. Your Audience
    3. The Feeling of Sisters
    4. The Atmosphere with Live and Changing Edges
    5. The Intelligent / Campy Humor
    6. The Weird Astrology Imagery
    7. The Topic Unpredictabliity
    8. The Mysteriousness as in 8th House

    There.
That’s eight points and 8 is a Venus number!

  4. Cecilia says on 3/18/08 at 6:46 am:

I can’t seem to figure that out but it sure is addictive.

  5. Avery says on 3/18/08 at 7:26 am:

The humor, unpretentiousness, richness and depth of applied astrology, the community of personalities who gravitate here, the continuity and cohesiveness. I’ve only been reading your blog for about four months, but in that time I’ve learned as much from you if not more than from my Robert Hand and John Townley books combined. A toast to Elsa!

  6. cj says on 3/18/08 at 7:38 am:

it’s astrology live! live astrology, astrology as it’s ACTUALLY HAPPENING. the written present and presence of astrology as lived by Elsa P.! It can’t be found elsewhere! unique! astrology, up close AND personal! found only here!

  7. kashmiri says on 3/18/08 at 7:42 am:

I love you Elsa. You’re in a class of your own. All what was written already, and beyond.

PS you are a very engaging writer and trust me…I’m very aware of these things.

I also like that you’re a bit bawdy, as I am myself.

  8. Amber says on 3/18/08 at 9:09 am:

Your energy. You have so much of it, and it spills over the blog. It is tapping into a live wire (mostly good). The drama in second place. Good and Bad your life is full of it, and I appreciate it. On your previous blog I used to read & learn a lot about ‘how to live’ - you were teaching about life on an extreme side of the spectrum, which is great for someone like me, who has a life like that (well obviously not like yours in a literal sense), and you taught me many things I craved to know, but noone could tell me. Things about self-esteem, how to handle crisis etc. That has been priceless. But yeah, you’re a deep & entertaining energy trip. Hope that’s not offensive.

  9. Charlotte says on 3/18/08 at 9:18 am:

Every single time I come here I get something new to think about. The real world application of astrology is essential to me.

  10. joana says on 3/18/08 at 9:56 am:

I like you, first of all.
Then I like the fact that I can learn a lot by reading both your posts and your comments.
I really enjoy your advice and perspective over things. And the videos!! :)

  11. saggal says on 3/18/08 at 10:09 am:

I love your writing and your real life stories. I also have learned a lot about astrology from you that you just can’t pick up from a book. And your hair, ha ha!

  12. Neith says on 3/18/08 at 10:43 am:

Your humor, passion for helping others through astrology, and your honesty with yourself and everyone here. Your stories are the best!! :)

    Love the videos and hope you will be able to go live again sometime. Thank you for your willingness to go the extra mile . . . and all your hard work!! {{{{{Elsa}}}}}}

And as to loosing the thread sometimes?! no problem . . . so do i :-D

  13. Heather M. says on 3/18/08 at 10:49 am:

I love how you weave astrology teachings into earthly day to day stories. So many books or teachers speak from such an esoteric place, which is fine, but not so helpful in grounding the energy into a place that it can be actually used. Here on Earth. With other people.

But you teach the earthly translation.
(Didn’t I read you have a grand earth trine?)

It makes you sort of the ultimate secret-keeper because you have all this knowledge and energy swirling underneath the surface and you express it as though it was the most ordinary thing- like brushing your teeth.

Oh, and I love the audacity.
    The story-telling.
    The Italian-ness too.
    And the community youve drawn.

  14. Becca says on 3/18/08 at 10:52 am:

The real-life examples make astrology make sense to me. You’re a very engaging writer with great stories to tell. Also you make me think.

  15. maheggo says on 3/18/08 at 11:02 am:

    is everything an option? :-)

  16. Amethyst says on 3/18/08 at 11:17 am:

I love that you talk about archetypes and symbology but in a concrete way so that one might not even notice they were learning. I think arechtypes and symbology are extremely influencial, and therefore very important to these times, but so few people seem to be talking about the subject in a way that people can grasp. You take real life and detangle the mess and we all look at it together. It’s fascinating and fun. You are depth but in a down to earth kind of way.

  17. june says on 3/18/08 at 11:49 am:

well… you’re interesting, for starters. a few of these stories of yours are pretty relatable all on their own; the astrology is a bonus. same goes for the advice pieces. i’m anti-fluffy regarding my astrology and it’s nice to know there are some grounded astrologers out there.

  18. Valkyrie says on 3/18/08 at 11:54 am:

I agree with all of the above. I really appreciate that you stick your neck out. You’re brave! Please keep it up. It’s inspiring. :)

  19. Cassi says on 3/18/08 at 12:21 pm:

I like how Cecilia called your blog addictive. I agree with that. I check my e-mail then I run over here to read about what is going on in the sky, with you, with your kids. I like your grounded point of view and no nonsense approach to life. And you are honest about things that many would be all hush hush about. You make alot of us feel better by just reading you.

  20. TripleCappy says on 3/18/08 at 1:06 pm:

Aww…thanks for giving us the chance to sing our praises. . . this is great. I love the human-ness of your blog. It is written by a human being, not someone whose life is a perfect pr package . . . my life is never a perfect pr package and there’s someone else out there writing about how things *really* are, which is so refreshing.

You know from my chart that I’m big into authenticity. Where are the authentic people? I think you’re one, and I love it. You’re just out there living and reporting back, noticing things and asking questions and it’s real stuff. I read it every day.

I’ve talked with you before for consults and since July 2007, you set my life on a new course- one of truth. How many people can I say that about? And your blog is just an extension of you and how you help people (in so many ways you’ll probably never even know . . . )

Keep doing what you’re doin, Miss Elsa (don’t ever think of moving out to the woods and not blogging ! :)

Oh, and I love that yellow shirt in your last video. I want one.

Gosh, I feel like I can go on and on here - you’re just awesome!

  21. Jessica says on 3/18/08 at 1:29 pm:

I agree with a ton of what’s already been said. I love the advice columns especially, and I love stories about your son.

One practical thing — I love how there are multiple updates a day. When I’m stuck at my computer working all day, and I need a quick blog fix, there are always new stories here on ElsaElsa.

  22. goddess says on 3/18/08 at 1:59 pm:

lots has already been said that i agree with.

i would say most of all, what keeps me coming back is that your blog makes me think. it gives me different perspectives about things going on in my own life.

i enjoy the astrology and have learned plenty from reading here, but that’s a side aspect for me.

the first post i ever read from you was an old story about the dress decorating the wall, and i knew immediately that was the sort of thing i would do, too, and also the sort of thing many would not get. i liked the honest and directness, and i can relate to your quirkiness.

you put lots of energy out there all the time, and it’s very real. so even those times when i might not agree with you, i respect the intergrity and bravery it takes not to hide.

    i enjoy the ride, ma’am. :)

  23. wyrdling says on 3/18/08 at 2:49 pm:

    stories
    and spunk
    and humor
    and wisdom
    and no BS

  24. isabelle says on 3/18/08 at 3:23 pm:

honestly, cuz i can relate to it more then any tv show and it’s so much more entertaining. Seriously cuz i can relate! cuz it’s clever, witty, no bs down to earth astrology. cuz it’s a bit of 8th house potluck and I also love the good stuff everybody contributes. I love the spontaneity and occasional urgency of the clips, you’re all there all present and it translates. Cuz I’ve been feeling really crappy the past couple days and it cheers me up from the short side of the wall (as you mentioned, there’s chaos on the other side), else it’s simply a bit addictive. yeah, good stuff.

  25. monica says on 3/18/08 at 4:20 pm:

I like generous and clever astrologers.
But what I like most is your sense of humour and your smile.
Always keep smiling! better than any medicine or surgery.
    thankxxx

  26. Ana says on 3/18/08 at 4:46 pm:

I love the style of writing! Amusing, informative, lots of variety…just great :) I also like the fact that every time I visit I learn something, get a new perspective. It just adds a whole new dimension to how I think about things. Can’t believe all the good advice I’ve come across on this wonderful blog. Kudos Elsa!

  27. elsie says on 3/18/08 at 6:14 pm:

elsa, must say i’m in agreement with all your fans — the stories are so relatable. we begin to see facets of ourselves in you. then you explain the astro underpinnings of events, so that we can better understand what’s goin’ on. so thanks. and thanks for the frequent updates, too.

  28. spinner says on 3/18/08 at 6:38 pm:

Elsa- You have created something awesome and beautiful! There are so many good comments here and I agree with all of them!

As a side bar- I went back to your March 7th blog, Astrology Tomorrow- Cripes better have a song!! And listened to Hang on Sloopy again, because I knew it would make me feel that all is right in the world.

Another sidebar- from Lupa’s site. A psychic can never tell you anything about yourself that you don’t already know. She can only bring your hidden awareness to the surface of your conscious mind. I think Elsa does that too.

PS Kashmiri- I hope that everything works out for your plans to spend time on Hornby Island. I know that you will have a life altering experience with or without the ganja! Randamandar told me that it is nice there.

PS- I miss your comments Pixie dust!

And what about another song. Dear Elsa, Dear Elsa sung to a tune by John Prine.

  29. kashmiri says on 3/18/08 at 7:23 pm:

spinner, thank you! i didn’t get hired, but instead was offered to become a visiting artist…then the person who asked me to promptly disappeared…it’s all very bizarre.

I’m not worried (or disappointed). I signed up for a weaving class and am rolling with it.i do have other plans and dreams up my sleeve (and if they change too, well oh well LOL)!

  30. phel says on 3/18/08 at 7:34 pm:

Your insight and perspective are very real and easy to relate to. Direct, confident, witty dry humor, and a different take on aspects. You have a way of describing what’s going on up and out there, and then summing it up with a simple question - one that summarizes the situation and applies it to our lives in the form of a question. If you ask me, the right question helps a person come up with the answer themselves.

  31. spinner says on 3/18/08 at 7:36 pm:

kashmiri- even dreamweavers have to roll up there sleeves once and a while or adjust there plans to adapt to changes, disappearing friends and other the bizarre behaviour. please excuse the poetic license.

  32. Shannon says on 3/18/08 at 11:45 pm:

um can I just say “me too” to all of that good stuff? :-)

  33. Daemoness says on 3/18/08 at 11:48 pm:

I like your ballsy style, lay it down openness and honesty.

  34. Shaina says on 3/19/08 at 12:35 am:

The interaction & community. The “clean” quality of the energy– integrity, respectfulness.

This is not necessarily the same as what I like about you, Elsa, but it’s surely an outgrowth of your production!

  35. Dina says on 3/19/08 at 2:28 am:

A lot, a lot. You’re my favorite if I haven’t mentioned it before.

  36. Lis says on 3/19/08 at 5:11 am:

For bringing astrology to us “regular folks” with humor and candidness. I’ve been here for over a year, because it’s so refreshing to be here. :)

  37. C. says on 3/19/08 at 10:00 am:

I love this blog! You raise wonderful points about every day occurrences, aspects of human nature, nuances of interaction, and tie them to the symbolism of astrology. In order to be a good astrologer, to make use of astrology, it is very important to understand what is meant by the symbols, the transit of a planet through this sector or that, what that planet signifies, the territory it is entering…and it is only though ones own personal experience that one can come to define exactly what these symbols mean, the energy that they indicate. And ultimately, such energies can only be felt. Sure, you can read a list of all the things that Pluto represents, but only by feeling Plutonian energy and recognizing it in your life can you understand. I am very thankful for this blog for the ways in which you speak fluently in the language of astrology, and the many interesting things you point out about human nature. I am also very thankful for all of the thought provoking questions you pose at the end of your posts. Your blog is not just a therapeutic place for you to release baggage, but a place you have created where a conversation can take place, a space you hold for a free flow of important and interesting ideas. You bring up some of the meatiest, most perplexing and at the same time fundamental, basic bits of life, experiences to which many people can relate in some way or other, and discuss then in light of astrology. I am very glad you have this blog and thankful for your insights, and the insights of many of you contributors. Many thanks!
