“Mirrors and the windows are all fogged over so I can’t see to back up,” the soldier said last night on the phone. “Have to have the window down to see and it’s cold. On the other hand I can smell the smell from the Burger King and it’s making my stomach growl.”
“Hope they let you in.”
“Oh yeah, the hog alarms are going to off soon as they see me. I’m going to say, I’m not a hog, I’m a rhinoceros!”

“Yeah, it’s just not a very fun time to be me right now.”

“Don’t you think the people in Mississippi will get rid of the guy who proposed that law?”
“Well yeah. They’ll get rid of him but it will take them 4 years to do it. I say they ought to go over to his house this minute, shoot him in the kneecap. There! I say you’ve got to have a kneecap to eat around here, you bastard. I’m telling you, P, they will start this thing slow. First if will be the obviously overweight and then they’ll whittle it down. Pretty soon the only people who will be able to eat in restaurants will be the thin as a rail. The Dachau look. The I-am-ready-for-the grave look. All I can say is they won’t starve me. Deny me food and I’m going to start shooting. I fought for my rights and I am keeping them, I don’t care how big my ass is. I have the right to eat and I pity the person who tries to interfere or take my rights from me.”
He went on to rant about California proposing to regulate the thermostat in your house. I guess I don’t have to tell you they won’t be regulating his…
“First it’s the morbidly obese, then the obese, next thing you know you better have blond hair and blue eyes and be skinny or you aren’t going to get a meal. We just can’t have the government decide who gets to eat and that is all there is to it. If we allow it we’re going to be in big trouble. It will be the beginning not the end and they will get it passed. Not this time probably but they’ll just keep at it and they’ll get something passed somewhere within 2 years and then it will spread. You think they started encroaching on tobacco all at once? Hell no, they eased it in.”
Pluto is in Capricorn - just how dark the shadow of the government? I think I will go get that Black Sunday scare picture…

No one may agree with me, but I see this as bullying people who are already vulnerable. Can you imagine the damage it would do to a teenager if they were told they were too fat to be served? What is wrong with people?! Trying to save somebody’s body by killing their soul.
I always said that the demonizing of fast food would never go over the way that tobacco did, for one reason: no matter how great tobacco may be, it’s still a luxury item. No matter how bad fast food may be for you, it will still save your life if you are starving to death. It’s still FOOD.
But I admit I didn’t realize they’d use this particular tactic.
I will be very surprised, though, if Burger King and the rest of those massive corporate entities roll over and play dead for this.
Tam, I agree with you. The scenario you describe gave me the fantods.
I don’t think it will ever fly, but it is indicative of a government comprised of do-gooders and and freakin’ arrogant assholes who think they know how we should all live, never mind their own miserable existance as the model. I think my husband and the soldier think much alike as we have had this converstaion often and he too is gonna shoot the kneecap in retaliation. :/
Anyway, since the Feds, via the ADA, have already lumped the obese into the disabled category and we must all therefore accomodate them as such, well this is just a misguided blip in their effort to control our lives.
Haha, remember the signs about hippies using side doors and blacks not allowed? I can see a big sign with a circle and a red line thru it and only two little dots for eyes. No chubbies. That’s kinda like not allowing a smoker into a smoke shop.
It’s ridiculous fersure. One step forward, two steps back and common sense has long departed.
What next? Put them all on a cruise ship and take them to their own island where they are forced to grow their own food?
And an Island for smokers, but they have to grow their own tobacco?
How about an Island for Politicians with stupid ideas?

We’ve reneged on a number of treaties (without renouncing them), Bush is up there essentially asserting unlimited executive authority (was never constitutional before) worthy of an absolute monarch via signing statements, and we’re being spied on 24-7 at this point. (Not that that’s terribly effective.)
The fat ban thing is silly; it’ll never pass constitutional muster, from about six different directions, and people will get pissed off about it.
