Wow, that’s a sore spot with me as well.

My SO likes to ask people things like “Who was President when you were born?” and “Who are the Senators of (our state)?” and watch people squirm - yet if he asked about Hollywood events they would know every detail. I think part of his attraction to me was that I actually knew the answers and, while I am in no way the history nut he is, I do stay abreast of the “real” news. My biggest fear for our country is that we as a people have become all too ready to trade our (hard won) independence for a promise of safety. Ben Franklin said it best:

“People who are willing to give up freedom for the sake of short-term security are worth of neither and will lose both”

We are all far to willing to let our country go to the entertainers - to let the most recent “star” voice our opinions. I talk to people who can’t name one Republican presidential candidate - or answer with “Obama” or “Hillary”????. These people are going to vote for the person who will run our country for the next 4-8 years. Sure I am glad we have people like Angelina Jolie and George Clooney to remind us that we need to care about people in other countries, but we also need to take care of ourselves. The only way to be a good citizen is to be an informed citizen and we are falling short.

On the other hand everyone seems to care about who’s taking care of Britney’s kids - go figure.

Go to ZEITGEIST THE MOVIE.com. People do need to be informed these days. The media is controlled and you are only receiving information they want you to know about. This 2 hour movie proved to me that my feelings about the Bush admin involvement in 911 and even behind it were right. The day I saw footage of W’s response to the information as he sat in that classroom of students and did nothing for a whole minute. How could someone who didn’t know beforehand that towers in NY and the Pentagon are being destroyed do anything BUT jump up and try to find out more instantly, especially the leader of our country!!! Would JFK have responded like that!!! We are being scammed America!! Our freedoms are going out the door. New world order/slavery is on the horizon. The only way to stop it is to be informed and diligent about preserving our constitution. Don’t believe the patriot hype, religious zeal or that our government is by the people for the people. It is not! Big money controls the elected officials. They are pawns and we are insignificant slave labor to them. Take the time to watch this movie. The truth is, you probably already knew this stuff, if you have a brain in your head. If you had no idea, you probably do care too much about Britney and you should check yourself right now. Bring on Capricorn in Virgo. Impeach the bastards!!!!

I’ll admit it–I read Perez, TMZ, have a subscription to People, etc., but I never discuss that stuff with anyone else. It’s simply for MY escapist entertainment only!

I balance that out with other reading, like Time and Newsweek, and frequent trips to the bookstore.
