Open Question: What Can I Do? I Worry All The Time!
Ask the collective
Dear Elsa,
Under investigation of my chart, there are many indicators that I am a worrier. I worry about the future, I fret about the past, etc. My mind is never at ease.
I have been looking into meditation/yoga to help out with this. Will I be able to change a major personality trait written in the stars, or will I be wasting my time? Sometimes my mind is my own WORST enemy.
Worried
United States
Linda Ronstadt wrote her hit song, Blue Bayou with her worried mind:
“I feel so bad I got a worried mind
I’m so lonesome all the time
Since I left my baby behind
On Blue Bayou..”
Point being you can do anything you want with what you have and what you are.
Personally, I don’t see the crisis in your chart. It seems you are creating crisis with your mind which only shows that you have a mind which work. Can you put it to work doing something else? Of course!
The quickest way I know to cure “worry” is to read Gavin Debecker’s book, “Gift Of Fear”. It’s worth reading, regardless (should be required reading for ALL Capricorn) but he’s got a bit in there where he explains that worry is “manufactured fear”.
His point is that if there is really something to be afraid of you will know it via other means. You will FEEL it. Your heart rate will increase for example. You will have a physical response and if you are worrying with none of these other symptoms that indicate a real threat then you making it up and once you understand this it makes it pretty easy to cease and desist and learn a new way.
So no. While trying to change your energy is a waste of time, trying to change the way you use it is anything but. I say take your very well-functioning mind and put it to work on something substantial and worthwhile.
Anyone else?

Well what about when you do get the physical response as in panic attacks/anxiety attacks? Because I am a constant worrier, no capricorn but saturn opp asc. and square sun (amongst others) natally and saturn is back where it started hitting both of these this year and next, during my saturn return.
I have the physical responses, I think they are triggered by the mental, but nonetheless they are very real.
My suggestion is therapy, and for once I’m taking my own suggestion as well!
The problem isn’t worrying. Your chart shows you’d rather think whatever thoughts capture your imagination than simply work toward finding a belief/philosophy that serves you!
Mars is currently spending lots of time winding through your 8th & 9th houses…maybe it’ll help push you a bit to consider what is truly worthwhile about life, and then start living that concept with faith. Do it up big, your chart shows you want to do it with flair!
Otherwise, when Pluto hits that Cappy 2nd house Moon of yours, your self-esteem is in severe jeopary. Position yourself now so it won’t be. Because it *shouldn’t* be. And hold on tight no matter what. Exorcise the word “wrong” from your vocabulary! Because if you are living your life from your own point of view, how could it be wrong? And if you’re NOT living your life from your own POV, then whose life are you living? And WHY?
So: figure out where you stand. That will help cut the chatter. Anything else is just small sh*t, and small sh*t isn’t worthy of your attention. Well, not *much* of your attention, anyway. You’re not a VIRGO, for goodness’ sake!!
you know, the greatest thing about worrying is that either your fear will come true or it won’t, but either way you can’t do much about it. spend your time doing something useful, and you will at least have something to show for it later. worry away your time and you’ll soon see that you’ve gained nothing and are the same place you started…rehashing the same stuff over and over again.
For folks who don’t suffer from constant worry, I think they underestimate how debilitating this can be. Especially when it culminates in panic attacks, it is exhausting and very hard to take control of and direct into productive channels. I think it’s naive to assume someone can handle this chemical imbalance through positive thinking or busy work. I’ve been through cognitive therapy and other forms for years, and the best help I’ve found is meds. SSRI’s physically short-circuits the anxiety so you can have a normal day and feel at peace. The effects wear off over time, and you have to keep switching to different ones, but really they’ve been a godsend.
Cappy/Saturn types are control freaks. For us, there’s nothing worse than feeling we have no control over our emotions, our minds, our bodies. Until we regain that sense of control, we simply can’t relax and enjoy life.
Oh yeah — and we know we’re creating the fear in our heads. That knowledge doesn’t stop the anxiety spiral; in many ways it makes it worse b/c we SHOULD be able to control it but can’t.
I would get a constitutional diagnosis from an Ayurvedic practitioner if I were you, or just go ahead and do self-massages with Vata oil (can get from Banyan Botanicals, online). In vedic astrology, your rising sign is Libra, and while that doesn’t totally determine one’s body-mind constitution, it goes a long way to pointing to a Vata-predominant constitution. Vata rules the movement of the mind, among other things, and when an individual is predominantly Vata or just has a Vata imbalance, worry/anxiety/fear is a textbook-typical result. Hope this helps…I know all this from my own personal experience with the same. The oil massages help quite a lot in calming down the mind; even just rubbing the oil on your feet before bed helps and reduces insomnia as well.
Yes, L, what a great idea! My SO did this recently and the results which affected his physical body boosted his mental outlook, hugely.
I understand the need for meds for some, totally. But when I think people can overcome their fears, it’s not because I don’t understand, because I do. I was in and out of therapy for years and was very messed up for a long time. And I am free.
I have my ups and downs and while I don’t have panic attacks like I used to, I still have anxiety. But I am doing really well. I do yoga, which is fantastic for me as I practice letting go and giving up control. For me it takes practice. I practice being unattached to my own ego for 1 hour a day and you know what? It bleeds out into my everyday life.
Capricorns/Saturn types need to believe in themselves and what they are doing to be truly happy. People see control freaks, but I see careful consideration of response as well as responsibility.
I’m not trying to hurt anyone by saying that I think anxiety/depression is an ego issue, but this philosophy really, really worked for me and allowed me to begin healing myself, so that’s why I encourage people to take a look. It turned my life around, and I can’t believe how fortunate I feel that this is so.
Thanks everyone for the great advice!
I think the main culprit has been that I went from being an independent, extremely outgoing, ambitious type of person to being a stay-at-home mom for the past three years. What a lifestyle change! But it’s the least I can do for the children that I love so much. I’ve been taking classes at the university here where I live online, but I will be starting full-time on campus in January. I am so excited to be out there again, fulfilling my goals and being around people (adults) everyday again. I’m crossing my fingers that school will be the anecdote that distracts my frazzled mind.
It makes sense to me that Elsa doesn’t see the problem in my chart, now that I think about it. I haven’t always been a worrier, in fact, I used to be so carefree. I really miss that about myself. Maybe I just have all of this mental energy with nowhere to focus it right now. I use to do stuff like painting, writting…..anything creative…..and I just haven’t had the time for it lately.
I will definelty try that vata oil. And I will also find that book because I love to read anyways. The most helpful book I ever read was called “Awakening the Buddhist Heart” there is a lot of info in there about how to cease worrying. That’s another thing. I was raised Catholic and I have the most devout Catholic mother who begs me to go to church and act Catholic at least until she dies (yes, that’s what she says). But the most helpful philosophies I’ve ever looked to are from Buddhism. I plan on going this week for the first time to a Buddhist church (??whatever you call their gatherings??) because I also feel like I am missing a spiritual outlet in my life.
Or one that I actually BELIEVE in for that matter.
Well, thank you all again, especially the self-proclaimed worriers, I feel your pain. And I hope we all find our way out of it.
Shell, I’m glad you mentioned these things: I too have a 9th House North Node and felt very comforted by exploring Buddhism (I was raised religiously, too). It’s a beautiful philosophy to explore, enjoy!
Thank you Elsa! The feeling is mutual!
L.–I’ve been looking into the Vata-types ever since you mentioned it and…wow. I ordered the oil, can’t wait to recieve it!! One question though….how does it smell?? My Venus in Virgo just won’t allow me to meet my hubby in the bedroom at night smelling funky :).
Thanks alot for the suggestion.
You’re quite welcome…the vata oil smells to me like massage oil with some herbs thrown in, which is what it in fact is. But, to use it, you massage it all over your entire body, then (ideally) wait about half an hour, then shower off. It still helps even if you shower off immediately, though. So it won’t affect how you smell going to bed. For nighttime, I meant to say to rub organic sesame oil on your feet, and then put on socks (it will stain things otherwise). I’m sure you could use the vata oil then too, but I use sesame. It basically affects things the same way. If you’re identifying a lot with what you’ve read about the vata body-mind type, though, then I’d advise following the other suggestions as well for vata lifestyle, diet, etc., and see if you notice a difference. The same website (Banyan) has lots of good articles on all of this, including a self-assessment questionnaire. Hope it helps, and happy exploring!
