“Well let’s face it. You’re always around gay people. Gay men that is and they do like you. And not all of them are mixed up. I can think of one who sized you up completely and furthermore, exploited his findings.”

He was surprised. ‘Who, P?”

“That cross dresser. The one that hired you.”

“Oh, him. He sized me up you think?”

“Absolutely. That guy liked to dress up in his clothes and walk to his bar. You told me they had a place where they all hung out.”

“Yeah, they did.”

“Okay, so he’s got this place he likes to go and he’s got the clothes he likes to wear and he likes to walk too. He likes to walk to the bar in his clothes because this is part of it and I understand this because I’m a girl. You want to walk because your heels go click, click, click on the sidewalk and it gives a feeling. Expectation of who is going to be at the bar when you get there. Who you might meet. Click, click, click, it feels good.”

“Yeah, okay.”

“So this is what this guy does and he likes it just fine except for every now and then on the way home when its dark, some bastards pull over and beat the hell out of him. They beat him up and perhaps one day they may kill him. This could happen as a result of his lifestyle.”

“Yeah.”

“Yeah, so that’s a problem. He has to risk his life to live but he deals with it and I respect him because of it. He’s going to have his life regardless of the threat and you know I understand that and so do you.”

“Yeah, I do.”

“Okay, so that’s what he’s doing. He’s living. He’s taking the risks he has to take in order to live a life he wants to live and then one day he looks up and there you are. And I am sure he thought, what the hell is this? Who in the living hell? What is this?!?”

“I was just out of Special Forces,” he said.

“Yeah, so you were rough.”

“I was very rough. The roughest.”

“Okay so this guy takes one look at you, a new person in his neighborhood and right away he says, you’re a scary bastard, right? He said that to you, right? He told you that you were terrifying?”

“Yeah, he did say that.”

“Okay, well that was honest. He told you the truth about what he could see and not many people are willing to do that. See why I like him? He’s brave. You are the scariest bastard in the world and he’s talking to you straight. And he knows you’re dangerous. He can see it, he can sense it and he acknowledges it but he also knows you don’t care about him. You have no interest in him. You have no sexual interest. You have no interest in hurting him. You have no interest!”

“No, no interest. And I wasn’t going to hurt him because I had no reason to hurt him.”

“Well you’re talking about a man who other men beat up on a regular basis so I think this is pretty smart of him to glean this immediately but beyond that he knew exactly what to do next. Say, he says! I like to dress up and go to this bar. But I keep getting my ass kicked and I’m tired of it. I am sick and tired of these bastards beating me up so how about if you see anyone hassling me, you pull over and get out of the car….”

“He just wanted me to get out and scare them. He didn’t care if I hit anyone. He just wanted me to distract them long enough he could take off running and get away. He said I didn’t have to fight anyone, just scare people.”

I laughed. “But you like to fight.”

“Yeah, I do. And I did punch some people even though I didn’t get paid for it. He paid me $25 every time I pulled over and saved his ass and I did it a few times. Three or four times I pulled over, scared people and he got away. But I also beat some people up too. I punched some of them just because I like punching people and also because they were a bunch of pricks. If you’re a prick, I will punch you without question and take great pleasure besides. I can’t help it. I love to punch. I love to punch… especially someone in the face who is being a prick.”

“Yeah, well that was a good deal for him. I would pay $25 not to have my ass kicked for sure. Never mind someone could kill him. And I don’t mind that you punched some of them. Bashing of the gay bashers. People like that are out to bully someone and they sure aren’t expecting to get bullied themselves. They definitely aren’t expecting a guy like you to show up to defend a guy in a dress”

“Yeah, they were surprised, P. You could say that.”

“Yeah well it’s pretty funny. You’re a little overkill but I just wanted to point out how this guy distinguished himself. He was a guerilla MF. He knew how to use the weapons found lying about, one of which happened to be you. And it must have been a day of glory for him when you showed up. Just the bastard I need,” I said with a chuckle. “He put you to good use that’s for sure and you see the difference between him and these other men who sniff around you. One of them thinks with his brain is all. And just in general knew how to put good energy to use. Because that’s what you are. You are energy finely concentrated and people do want to tango with you they just have no idea how. This guy was an exception. He knew exactly how to utilize you and he is one of my favorite characters in your stories because of it. A bad ass of his own size and type.”

“He always paid me. He’d take off running whenever I’d pull over but he always came around, found me the next day and settled with me,” he said.

“Of course he did, he was a man. Men make good on their promises. A man is going to keep his end of a bargain regardless of his clothing.”
