“You see, these are the things that don’t compute. Here you are the alpha dog… you come right out and say you are a macho jerk but then you don’t act like a macho jerk.”

“I don’t?”

“No. For example, you let me drive the bike. You let me drive the motorcycle and not just by myself or when you weren’t around. You rode on the back of that thing with me and you did it all the time.”

“So? Why shouldn’t I ride on the back. You could drive that thing as well as I could. We both liked to drive and you had just as much right to drive it as I did.”

“No I didn’t. It was your bike!”

“Well, no. That wasn’t really my bike.”

“Yes it was. I didn’t buy it. I didn’t pay for it. You had it when you met me.”

“But it still wasn’t myyyyyyy bike. It was the bike.”

I laughed. ‘Well that’s what I mean. See, I like that about you. You let me drive and damn if you didn’t ruin me completely. Because most men want to drive.”

“They do?”

“Yeah, and guess what? If they don’t let me drive… well I don’t like them. I get rid of them and that’s because of you. If a macho jerk can get on the back of his own motorcycle and let me drive routinely, well I am not going to stand for less.

He laughed.

“Like that millionaire bastard. The one… he owned the golf course for Godsakes but can I drive a golf cart? Noooooooooo. He has to drive the golf cart because he’s a man. He told me this. A golf cart for Godsakes. They’re barely worth driving in the first place are they? How slow is a golf cart? Damned slow!”

“Very slow,” he said. “Damned slow is right.”

“Yeah. So first he’s got all these slow machines no one is interested in… then he won’t let me drive and not only that, when I tell him I was to ride in a red cart, not a blue cart what does he do? He balks! Like I want to ride in a blue golf cart with him driving? Why would I want to do that? Why?”

“Did you dump him P?”

“”Well yeah, I dumped him. I dumped him just as soon as I could. I had to work at it though, I said. ‘He did not go easy. He wanted to stick around and be my millionaire but I just could not stand this guy. I don’t know what he wanted me for. Honestly, if he’d have got me I’d have wound up killing him in his sleep. That’s how interested I am in driving around in a blue golf cart while whispering because he said my voice was too loud. (Mars Mercury).”

“I know you do. And I’m sure I told him that too. I am sure I told him, leave me alone or I’m going to kill you in your sleep!” I laughed. “You know me. I’m not shy. And damn it if you don’t like a loud voice, what the hell are you doing with me? I’d have liked to kill that guy, he annoyed me to no end but you get my point. You rode on the back of that bike with me and because of that… ever since, any man who insists on driving all the time, well that’s fine. But I am going to be out of there, first exit I see. But anyway, you do act macho but with no jerk. Somehow you separate these two of these functions in exactly the way they need to be separated. It’s actually quite a trick when you think about it. But you do it and apparently it comes naturally because I don’t recall you ever trying. You know. You just told me to drive, hopped on the back and off we went.”
