Voice of Mars: Dreaming Of Fields Of Fire
Astrology in Real Life
“Yeah, it’ll be nice in the desert, P,” the soldier said. We can get out there and build ourselves some machine gun nests.”
“Some what?”
“Machine gun nests. Nests to hide your machine gun,” he explained.
I was pretty sure he was kidding but you never know.
“I don’t have a machine gun so I won’t be building a nest of any kind. No. You’re going to be on you own if you want to do that. I’ll fix you lunch though,” I said. “You can come in from the sun and have some lunch if you want. It’s up to you.”
“Now that sounds great.”
“And maybe some Sangria in the evening,” I said. “Why not? Sangria in the desert, I’d like some.”
“That does sound good. Because the field of fire in the desert is incredible, P. It’s hard not to exploit it.”
“Fields of Fire? Some people think Field Of Dreams, do you know that?”
“Yeah, I do know that. But they don’t know what they’re missin’.”

I’m getting a little queasy with all this ‘I love to fight’ talk. Sure, if you need to defend yourself, fight. I’m sure it’s necessary sometimes. But actually enjoying it: ugh. Enjoying the prospect of hurting or killing someone: ugh again. It’s the fields of fire that we can do without. Can’t you get him to make love not war Elsa? (and how do you stand it? Especially seen what you said about the dead goat / Henry / non-violence)
Amber the short answer to this is, I can’t get him to do anything. But I would also say I think he’s fine the way he is. I went into this a little further in the comments here:

Killing a goat to sell a video game does not compare to soldiering in any way shape or form and Henry is inside of me and a much much longer story. I understand your queasiness, however I don’t feel it myself. And believe me I don’t have to “stand” the soldier. He (along with Henry) is one of the finest men I have ever known.
I think with my 8th house I am going to meet extremes and with my Libra… see both sides of things… and there are 2 sides you know. The fact is, if you could ever get 100,000 people to gather in peace someone is going to start shooting. If not at that specific gathering then halfway around the world. And at that point you need a soldier. Someone willing to go in and stop the mayhem because there will always, always, always be fighting.
I do not like to fight so I am damned glad there are people out there who do. And if you’re going to fight, may as well be good at it. Fights end quickly this way.
Mars is like any other energy. It is all in how it is directed. And we need heroes. And if someone wants to feel good about being a hero, then why not? I feel good about being an astrologer don’t I? Shall we decide who gets to feel good about themselves?
The man is a solider… a consummate soldier. he eats drinks and breathes it. he is such a soldier he became the best soldier in the world. And really one could ask, just exactly what is “queasy” about that?
Those planes were flown into the WTC. Had he been on one them, this would not have happened. Does that make you queasy? Shall we all sit like lambs while the planes are flown into the buildings? Why doesn’t that make you queasy?
I am sorry but Mars exists and we better damn have some people willing to express it. It is Mars that makes a hero. It is Mars that jumps under a train in NY to save a man who has fallen. Mars occurs in nature and that’s all there is to it.
Henry never raised his voice. He was one end of the spectrum. The soldier is at the other end of the spectrum and guess what? The both had the same goal. 2 sides of the same coin, see.
When I read about the Soldier, it’s not killing that comes to mind but the ability to keep others safe from harm. An awareness of where danger may come from & how to counter that is a good thing, IMO.
As an example, I listened to my Aries S/O who didn’t want to lock the doors because we live in a rural area (didn’t feel right to my Scorp…but . .) So I was the one sitting & reading late at night when this idiot w/a mask and gun burst in the house. Was I scared?! Not at the time, too busy trying to convince that fool I was willing to give him whatever $ we had around (which wasn’t much). My Aries slept through the whole incident & didn’t wake up until the cops had arrived (I woke him then). The point is it’s necessary to be aware of the “field of fire” & other vulnerabilities.
Since that time i make sure the doors are locked before i go to bed. Oh yeah, the guy got caught because he beat the heck out his girlfriend & she turned him. smart, huh?!

Neith, this is a true angle, but beyond people at large, I can tell you this for sure:
If your kid goes to war (and he/she might when they turn 18 because it is none of your business) you should be so lucky as to have him in their command. What he particularly excels at is keeping (other) soldiers alive. This is all because of the strong Mars. He does not like to lose… in fact he refuses to lose and if you want to win, you have to keep your men alive.
See, I know this because all these ex-soldiers of him call him all the time. They want his energy, see. They call him when they need a push or to remember what they are capable of.
I guess what makes me queasy is that it he seems to want to fight, when there is no need to fight. What does not make me queasy is a man who can fight, and win - I get that, and I also see why it is necessary (in fact I love men who can fight, one of my previous boyfriends was a national martial arts champion, the one I have now likes to box.)And, just for the record, I believe you when you say he’s a fine man. Don’t cut my head off- I don’t know him, you do.
The problem I have with war, and his apparent love of war, is closer to home - for example when he said he preferred a good old war over the state of the (peaceful) country he found it in when he came back home (the hilarious blog about the metrosexual men and hairless women). The ‘good old war’ I know second-hand is WWII in which my father-in-law was the only person standing in the family at 0-5 years old, his mother taken away 2 days after giving birth and gassed in a concentration camp. No-one else father, aunts uncles etc. surviving. THAT is my connotation with war, so if he prefers that over peace, that makes me queasy. That is not to say that we would be better off without defenses, or that we need people who can handel these situations. It is the whole romanticisation of war and the heroism of war that puts me off.
I do not think it is so easy to divide the ‘good guys’ from the ‘bad guys’ in war. The collaboraters (my countrymen) allowed and aided that deportation! The Germans (some of which are my friends now, 2nd generation) killed them. The guilt and the pain, the burden of war, is still there.
But tell you what, I was in Italy last week and the guys there are now waxing their legs! Their army too has a reputation of wavering, and choosing whatever side that is strongest at that moment - maybe he could straighten them out a little.
