Write About Astrology and Politics? Yeah, Right - Not In This Lifetime
Astrology in Real Life…
I’ve been thinking about Libra being able to see both sides of a coin, aka indecisiveness, versus Aries singular mind. And I can see how important it is to be able to pick a side if for example, you would like to fight a war. Nice to know which side you’re on, yes?
So considering this it’s no wonder I feel certain if I found myself in the middle of a war, I would stand up and take the first bullet I could find to hit me (The Thin Red Line and Mars Square Mars in Synastry). Such would be my pain in that circumstance. Never mind that whoever was losing, I would want to go fight on that side. Balance, right? So who can stand this going back and forth? Not me! Someone kill me now!
And I am sorry for this! I am sorry for being wishy-washy but it’s just impossible for me not to consider the other person’s position so consequently I would be a truly horrible soldier, which should be understandable considering war is the providence of Aries, the sign opposite Libra.
And this extends into politics. Occasionally someone emails to prompt me to write about astrology and politics and I can’t do it. How am I supposed to pick a position, anyway? As soon as I argue one side, I am going to see the other and there is nothing in this world I can do to stop it.
So I marvel at the people who have a position they are able to hold and I run with them too. I have spent my whole life with the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Aquarius, Scorpio). I particularly partner with them, there is no other way. I just desperately need this kind of energy and I wind up with very opinionated people in my life and on both sides of any equation, while meantime I stand in the middle, wide-eyed and wondering how they do it. How can they be so damned sure?
And I envy them, by the way. Must be nice to know what you think!
Do you have Aries or Libra in your chart?

It’s easy, but I’m an Aries!! That doesn’t mean I’m always right though.
The thing is, war brings out the survival instinct and all sorts of primordial stuff which ain’t Libran. So you might be surprised by what you found yourself capable of in that situation.
I have the exact same dynamic as Elsa going on. But I am very certain about the two-sidedness!! And that it’s important! That’s why openminded single-minded people like me: I bring perspective. And I like them, because they bring me structure and content. Mars in libra. I have been thinking of working for a politician, but I am not sure I could do it - for this reason.
Dharmaruci - I doubt it. I’d take a bullet so fast, your head would spin. If there is a nuclear war, I will hope to be in the very spot the bomb is dropped. I would like to catch it, actually. I have seen enough. I am ready to go at any time.
I think pisces has something in common with libra, because being the last sign they have lived every spectrum of life, they contain alot of experience, and so are able to transcend it, and then picking sides isn’t realistic, doesn’t make sense. It’s just knowing that, for example in a war, no side is 100% right or wrong, everyone is comming from somewhere, all things have a context in which they can make total sense. You either are able to relate to it, or even just be informed about it, or not.
I’m pisces, with a full first house, only pluto in libra, nothing in aries. I voted no trouble picking a side, because I tend to guide myself by very clear rules to which I think all people should rule their behavior, just the common sense stuff like “your freedom ends where the next person’s begins”, equal rights, etc. I guess in many situations i could have trouble deciding for a side, but this topic reminded me of Bush and the iraq war, and I don’t have any trouble picking a side there.
I should add that by picking a side, doesn’t mean I would fight for that side, in the sense of going to war and killing people for it, I would rather die myself then do that.
“If there is a nuclear war, I will hope to be in the very spot the bomb is dropped. I would like to catch it, actually.”
you are making me laugh so much with this. it has all the makings, in my imagination, of an absurd comedy sketch and my sides are splitting.
thank you i so need this humour break
I’m a Leo with practically everything in fixed signs, so I’m one of those stubborn, opinionated types!
I have nothing in Aries or Libra, but a rather strong Mars (in the 10th, trine Saturn) and my saving grace: the Moon in the 7th house. I can usually see the other side of any given issue and understand how someone could reach their conclusion, but it rarely changes my mind about my own point of view.
I could never see being a soldier; it’s one of my private nightmares (along with being in jail). I could totally see myself as Radar O’Reilly, though, serving in an administrative capacity for a cause I believe in. With Mars in Virgo, I would totally type for peace!
I always know which side of the fence I’m on, Elsa, and it takes a lot - in fact it’s well nigh impossible to convince me that I’m wrong. I sometimes get annoyed with myself for this trait!
My Sun and it’s modern ruler are in fixed signs (Aquarius and Taurus), Moon and ascendant in cardinal signs, no planets in Libra, but Jupiter, Neptune and Venus in mutable signs.
My daughter has a Libra South Node, my son has a Libra Sun, I have Aries / Libra intercept in the Koch house system, and I do know a lot of Libra types. While it is true they can see both sides which is what makes them great diplomats, and it’s also true many famous Librans are in the arts, I think a Libra type person can easily pick sides if their sense of justice and fairness, what is right or wrong, does become clear. And that can happen, I’ve seen many a Libra once they become clear that something is wrong or unfair or out of balance, fight as fiercely as they come! They may stand firm in their fight through passivism like Ghandi, be activists like Bobby Seale or Jesse Jackson, and let’s not forget my favourite, John Lennon! These are also all the same reasons why it is not unusual to see Librans in politics, such as US Presidents Carter, Hayes and Eisenhower, Himmler, Ben-Gurion, Margaret Thatcher, etc.
I have lots of Scorpio so once I pick a side I’ve usually picked it for good. But I only do this with things that are really important to me. Lots of mutable stuff in my chart means I’m equally likely to accomodate on issues that aren’t really a big deal.
No Libra, but lots of mutable…I can change my mind if the information changes. And I very much like things to be fair and just.
Sun/Pluto/Saturn/Venus stellium in Libra and a Mercury in 7th house Libra make me obsessed with “the other”, but an Aires ascendant ensures that I appear opinionated when I’m expressing my views of both sides! Also remember that there are those sides that you know to consider, and that there are always those sides that even you can’t even consider in considering ‘both’ sides.
See? I just did it right there!
Hey Elsa,
I totally identify! I write about politics sometimes and with Mars in Libra I try to be so careful to be fair to everyone. Sometimes, people write back to me like I am supporting so-and-so for president when it’s not true–it just comes across that way because I think people can mistake fairness for approval. I wish I could just fire away with opinionated bullets, but everytime I start to do that I begin to slow down and look at the other side of the issue. Anyway, great blog–as always!
I am Gemini Sun, Mercury and Mars/Aries moon–so I guess Gemini is what makes me so wishy-washy. I tend to think, think and think again until I confuse myself so much I don’t know what side of the fence I stand on. I usually just end up tangled in the fence and wondering if it was all worth it and who in the heck is gonna get me out of this fix now. I normally see six-in-one and half-a-dozen in the other no matter what the subject.
Hi Elsa,
I’m a Leo (with 6 planets and my ASC in Leo), but I know exactly what you mean. My Neptune is in Libra which bestows on me enough of the diplomat to see both sides of an issue. I have a difficult time picking sides as well. Mainly because we all bleed the same way and generally worship the same god, whether we want to admit it or not.
Blessings,
Kat Starwolf
Leo Sun, Aries ASC, Uranus, Jupiter, Moon, and DSC–Libra. Jupiter is exactly conjunct the DSC.
I decide to do something. Then I sit back and think about my decision for a while. Most of the time, I go ahead with my original plan.
So yes, it’s clear that I live the Aries/Libra paradox.
I don’t have trouble picking a side but I can argue both. I have done that before and when I was told they thought I was more _________ way I said I was that way but I was just trying to have all sides looked at before pronouncing a judgment.
I’m with Lupa.
For the important things (as pertaining to ethics/morals/values), I’m stubborn and my thinking is rigidly black/white.
In most other scenarios, I’m open. 3 in gemini, 2 in libra, 3 in leo, 2 in sag and aries rising.
“1 foot in, 1 foot out, and turn it all around; and is libra what it’s really all about?”
