Jupiter in Sagittarius - Let’s Eat! Food and Nurture, Sadge Moon Style: Denis and Brad Entertain Elsa P

Astrology in Real Life…

africa cookbookMy scooter and I went to see Denis from Cameroon and his autistic charge, 23 year old Brad, who Denis calls “Brat” because of his accent. Brad is not actually a brat though. He is a happy young man who cannot talk, but can get his point across. For example he stomped his foot down HARD and Denis said, “That means Brat is hungry.”

Denis cooked Brad and I his home food, which was rice, ground dried shrimp, ground beef and onions all tossed into a pot and cooked in coconut milk. I’d never had anything like it, but scarfed it down as did Brad.

Denis’s house was immaculate and I watched as Brad, who can dress but not bathe himself, carried his plate and his glass into the kitchen when he’d finished eating.

“Is he a picky eater?” I asked.

“Brat? Not so much,” he said. “But sometimes I fix something he doesn’t want and he let’s me know about it.”

“How’s that?”

“Usually he just picks up the plate, walks over to the trash and dumps it.”

I laughed, as Brad came back in the dining room and picked up the two wooden coasters from his place setting, one for the glass, one for the plate and tossed them into the sideboard cabinet next to the table and took off. Denis and I talked for another half hour or so and then he wanted to ride the scooter. I picked up plate and my glass and Denis took them from me.

“I know where these go,” I said, picking up the coasters.

“See, Elsa? Brat taught you that.”

I grinned. I like how Denis is. “Yep, I learned this watching Brad…”

~~

Yesterday I was on my way home from the gym and I was thinking about the food he’s served me. His home food. And I was remembering the taste that was so distinctive and I realized I felt very nurtured by this gesture. It makes you feel good when someone invites you into their home and serves you the food they grew up with, whatever that might be.

When you have guests do you serve them home food, or company food? Where is your Moon?

Home food! Pasta and sauce with meatballs and cheese and garlic bread! Mmmmmmmmmmmm. Not very exciting, but it’s my home food. Moon in Sagittarius in the 10th. I also love to bake homemade desserts and bring them to work, ha ha. I work for too big a place to do it now, but in the past I’ve worked for small companies.

Absolutely. My Moon is in Pisces but I’m a Cancer rising. I definitely think that home cooking heals, too. When my ex-bf’s Mom was recovering from her mastectomy, I made her family a big pot of my mother’s brisket.

My moon is in aquarius. I typically serve Mexican food because it is what I cook best. I make sure there is ‘our’ food (spicy)and a mix of spiciness so that everyone is comfortable with the food.

Then I serve several desserts that are something they’ve never had.

I don’t really have any home foods. My grandmother was a Gemini that had no time to cook and my mother was a wonderful cook, but an Aquarian, so much of what she cooked was based in her interests at the time and she rarely served it to me, she took it elsewhere. I’m in search of a home food for my family. Any suggestions?
Oh and Virgo moon, so I try to match the food I serve to the guests that are coming, what I think they might like, sometimes it works and sometimes it backfires.

Moon in Virgo. Home-cooking, but usually tailored to the guest. Italian for the Italian family, Irish for the Irish family, comfort foods for close friends (mac ‘n cheese being the favorite), meatless for the vegans/vegitarians, etc. What’s the point of feeding people at home if they don’t get what they love? :D

Moon in Scorpio, home food. Everything I cook is what we eat all the time…or at least in stages. I feed everyone that comes by what I feed my family. I don’t have company food yet.

Moon in Aquarius, but when I have guests I rarely cook for them. I take them out for Mexican or Cajun food instead. Someplace that serves crawfish enchiladas, for preference.

Pisces moon, Virgo rising. My guest food is my home food, just more courses and dessert, which I usually avoid (or it’s coffee and a not-too-sweet cookie). For home it’s either pasta followed by cheese, veggies, legumes and salad then fruit OR antipasto followed by meat and veg, then salad and fruit. For guests it’s bread and olives on the table, a mixed antipasto, a pasta course, meat or fish with veg, then salad and cheese, then fruit and some kind of plain cake kind of dessert, chocolates; wine with everything and limoncello or grappa at the end. I like to start out with something sparkling like prosecco because it’s festive and goes with the bread and whatever the antipasto is. I don’t like repeating ingredients in more than one course; I balance colors too, so the plate with food on it it looks nice. Two things I have to have when there are guests: flowers on the table and music (jazz, anything Brazilian, Sinatra’s good, Dean Martin live in Vegas is a hoot, French/Italian cabaret-type stuff from the 60’s-70’s sets the mood, Ella Fitzgerald an absolute fave!) I like using all my stuff for table settings, I have quite a bit and it’s fun to play with.
The flowers are essential: I cannot look at a set table with no flowers, it would feel very off.
Oh and I love to do little favors on each plate, and I have a guest book for people to sign. You can’t imagine how many dinners come right back to me when I look at those pages.
If someone brings a little hostess gift from a French pastry shop or a stationery store, some little doo-dad, or some music and MORE flowers..and then my little dinner goes off without a hitch..I feel like a queen in my castle.
    I love dinner parties…….. :)
