Jupiter in Sagittarius: Mashing The Cultures, This Time It’s Food

fresh garlic clovesOne of the ways Jupiter in Sadge is manifesting around here is the food. I am learning to cook Asian. And I can thank Kathy, the boy-girl for this, who got me accustomed to eating Thai and now I have cook it. Or learn to cook it, that is and I am slow. The Solider called a few weeks ago.

“What are you doing, P?”

“Eating stir fry.”

“Stir fry? What are you doing eating stir fry?” he laughed. “Italians don’t eat stir fry!”

“Sure they do. They eat Italian stir fry. That’s what I’m having. It’s Italian if you fry the stuff in olive oil! With garlic. You know. Some vegetables…. I have broccoli, some squash, onion, mushrooms, tons of garlic… some other stuff.”

He laughed.

“And then if you throw some pepperoni in there and then sear the whole thing with parmesan cheese… you know. So it’s sort of crusty, well that’s definitely Italian. It’s Italian, Asian style.”

“Okay, P. You’re the boss.”

“Yeah. Well this food is good. If you were here, I bet you’d like it and it is Italian, but I am going to learn to cook Asian food too. I am moving in that direction. It’s on my list of things to do and this me beginning that…”

So now it’s a few weeks later. I have some sesame oil. I have some soy sauce. I am getting the hang of this, but today I did what I knew I was going to have to do… I stepped foot in one of the huge Asian grocery stores around here and boy am I glad I did!

For one thing, they have garlic there like you would not believe. They sell pint sized containers (and quart-sized bags) of garlic cloves, cleaned and peeled. And they’re cheap! A pint of garlic cloves for $1.13. I had to laugh. See what’s out there? And right under my nose.

The rest of the produce was terrific looking. And what is a specialty in the regular grocery is normal in this store so everything is very cheap and plentiful and maybe you can imagine my feeling standing there looking at this. Pure glee. It’s like a whole new land and here I am, less than a mile from my house!

So this is my progress report. With Jupiter in Sagittarius are you doing anything to expand your sphere? What?

I am facing mortality all around me. Myself, my family, a friend. I’ve never had to deal with the issue much in my life and it scares the heck out of me. I think I’m doing okay, so far. Oh, there’s ton’s of personal growth going on with this one. We’ll see where it lands me.

Yep! Jup in Sag is smack dab in the middle of my 10th house and I’m finally ready to get back into the workforce! And once the money is flowing in again, I have a kazillion plans ready to fly!

I don’t know about myself, but I’m teaching my roomie about cooking. She’s used to eating ‘bean glop’ and bland pastas. It’s great watching her find out how many other flavours there are besides ’salty’. She didn’t know what capers, cumin, coriander(cilantro), basil, dolmades or saffron were, but she does now! I love Thai food as well. The whole yin/yang balance, has to be a presence of salty, bitter, acid and sweet but one gets to take the lead in each dish. Beautiful.

I’ve booked 2 trips today, and the first plane tickets I’ve had in 7 years…I’m sooooooo stoked. And one of them is Vegas baybee! Of course, I have this ridiculous grin because the whole time I’m there (my first visit there) I’ll be hearing your stories in my head.

when you’re shopping here, the best produce and prices are always in Chinatown! who knew you could buy soy sauce by the litre…

i’ve got sun square jupiter in taurus, in the 11th house. and this year (since september) has been all about expanding my social circle, reigning in my perfectionist tendencies, and learning to delegate tasks or work with these new friends on various big projects - and i hate group work! but it’s been challenging in a good way, and liberating to not micro-manage every aspect of a project, to trust other people to do their work and to just worry about mine.
